COPYING AND PASTING WITH THE MOUSE

1. Select the text you’d like to copy by highlighting it. You can highlight by pressing and holding the left mouse button and then moving the mouse pointer to expand your selection. Once you have the text you want, click the right mouse button.

2. A menu will open. This menu is called the Context Menu. On this menu, find and click the option to copy.

3. Now, switch to Microsoft Word. If Word isn’t open, go ahead and open it now. Once you’re in Word, right click once again to open up the context menu. Find and select the option to paste.

4. The result of the paste should be the transfer of the text into the Word document.

COPYING AND PASTING A WEB ADDRESS

1. You may choose to copy the web address of a webpage. This will allow you to link directly back to the site in the future. To do this, we will simply highlight and select the entire web address by left clicking anywhere on the address.

2. Click the right mouse button to open the context menu. On the context menu, find and click copy.

3. Switch to Microsoft Word and right click in the document wherever you’d like your web address to be added. Choose paste from the options in the context menu.

COPYING AND PASTING WITH THE KEYBOARD

You can follow the same steps as outlined above for copying and pasting with the mouse. However, instead of right clicking and selecting copy and paste on the context menu, we can use keyboard commands.

1. Select the text you’d like to copy by highlighting it. Once you have selected the text you want, hold down the Ctrl key and press the C key.

2. Now, switch to Microsoft Word. Hold down the Ctrl key and then press the V key.

Creating and Managing Bookmarks in Mozilla Firefox

What are Bookmarks? A bookmark is simply a reference to a web address. You bookmark a site so that you may return to it as you wish in the future.

Bookmarking a page is not the same as saving page. When you bookmark a webpage, none of the content (text, formatting, images, etc.) is saved onto your computer. The only thing that is saved is the web address. This means that you might return to a webpage and find the content you need has been changed or removed.

Consider this situation - you find a webpage titled “Favorite Recipe of the Week” that includes directions on cooking chicken wings. You plan to use this recipe to prepare dinner next week. Next week comes around and you use your bookmark to get back to your site. However, you now find that the webpage includes directions on cooking meatloaf instead.

What happened? The site’s developer must have chosen to take down the directions on cooking chicken wings in favor of posting directions on cooking meatloaf. Our web

address did not change, so our bookmark for chicken wings now gives us directions on meatloaf.

Web content is dynamic and is always liable to change. This does not make bookmarking webpages obsolete, but it is something to consider as you use bookmarks. In some cases, it may be best to copy and paste the text of a webpage into a Word document in addition to bookmarking the site.

Can I find my Bookmarks in Windows File Explorer?You cannot find your bookmarks using the file explorer. Bookmarks are not individual files like documents or images. They are a part of the web browser and can only be viewed and managed through the web browser program.

How do I prevent losing my Bookmarks? There a couple scenarios which might result in you losing your bookmarks, such as: switching to a new computer, a computer crash, or deletion of the Firefox program. You can prevent losing your bookmarks in the scenarios by either using the Firefox Sync feature or by using the Import and Backup features in the Bookmark Library.

Add a New BookmarkWhen you’ve navigated to a webpage you’d like to create a bookmark for, there are a couple easy options to bookmark that page. You can simply press the bookmark button as shown below, or you can use the keyboard command Ctrl + D.

The Bookmark button has a five pointed star on it. Once this button is clicked or the Ctrl + D command is made, a small dialog box will open where you can edit the name of the bookmarked page, change the folder where the

bookmark is saved to, and apply tag words and phrases to organize your bookmarks.

Note that this button changes appearance once a site is added to bookmarks – in that case, the star on the button becomes filled with dark blue. Use a BookmarkWe can use our bookmarks in three ways – from the Bookmarks menu, the Bookmarks sidebar, or the Bookmarks Toolbar. Bookmarks Menu

The bookmarks menu can easily opened by clicking the button to the right of the Bookmark button. This will open up a long menu that not only displays your bookmarks but also allows you to open the Bookmarks Sidebar and the Bookmarks Library.

Bookmarks SidebarThe Bookmarks Sidebar is another feature that allows users to access their bookmarked sites. The sidebar can be opened via the Bookmarks menu (above) or by using the keyboard command Ctrl + B. The Bookmarks Sidebar

allows users to use a search box to locate specific bookmarks.

The Bookmarks ToolbarThe Bookmarks Toolbar allows use to make certain bookmarks easily accessible. When this toolbar is visible, the bookmarks you add to the Bookmarks Toolbar folder are displayed above the website.

Manage BookmarksOrganizing and deleting bookmarks becomes important as we add more bookmarks to our collection. To manage our bookmarks, we use the Bookmarks Library. You can open the Bookmarks Library from the Bookmarks menu (Show All Bookmarks option) or by using the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + Shift + B.
