1. Volunteers. At all venues of the ICPC Zone & Hotels in Ekaterinburg (as well as the airport, railway and bus stations, and hotels) you will see ICPC volunteers who speak English and will be glad to provide necessary information or assist you on site. Ask them for any help you need!

2. Call Centre. For your convenience, we opened a 24-hour ICPC Сall Сentre +7 965 542 0000 (at full work since June, 20). The Call Centre operators will answer any questions related to the World Finals events and your stay in Ekaterinburg. Upon your arrival, ICPC Volunteers provided you with a free Beeline sim-card with an instruction. Please, put it on your mobile phone (ask the volunteer to help if needed).

3. Buses. The World Finals events will be held in a special ICPC Zone which include Ekaterinburg’s best venues: Palace of Team Sports (DIVS) and Cosmos Concert Hall. Special buses will take you there from your hotel. You’ll know them when you’ll see them. Do not get late on morning bus!

4. Security & Access Rules. We use a number of security measures to provide maximal safety during the contest. Ekaterinburg is surely a safe city, but the legislation of Russian Federation establishes special security rules for the public events. Your ICPC badge is allowing you enter the ICPC Venues. Please, do not forget to put it on!

5. Wi-Fi. The hotel volunteers will provide you with your password and login for the ICPC Zone wi-fi. It will allow you to connect to a high-speed Internet connection which covers the entire zone!

VOLUNTEERS

During the days of contest, our ICPC volunteers will be around, ready to help you in any situation. They are dressed in magenta shirts with an inscription «NEED ANY HELP – ASK ME!» There are following groups of volunteers:

Airport – Railway Station volunteers. They will be the first to meet you in Ekaterinburg, remind you which hotel you live in, and answer any the question you have. They also will help you leave Ekaterinburg after the contest.

Transfermen. These are the volunteers to take you from the Airport/ Railway station to your hotel.

Hotel Volunteers. In the ICPC Hotels you will be met by a special person, who will provide you the registration materials, and answer the questions about the further schedule, transportation, and accommodation. They are staying in the hotel on a permanent basis.

Buddy. You will first meet them when you will be transferred to the Registration. Their task is to accompany you to the ICPC Zone.

Venues Volunteers. Their task is to make all the preparations in the ICPC Venues, install the equipment, check the network connection to make sure everything works OK. And, of course, they will help you get around in the ICPC Zone.

Pay special attention to your Hotel Volunteers and your Buddies! They know your Beeline phone number. Make sure you have their phone number!

If for some reasons you Buddy is not answering, if there’s no one at the helpdesk at the Hotel, or if you are outside the ICPC Zone – please, use the Call Centre +7 965 542 0000.

Metric System

Russia uses the standard metric system of measurement.

Time System

In Russia, the 24 hours system is in use. The AM / PM system is virtually not used.

Currency

Russia’s national currency is ruble. One ruble is divided into 100 kopeks (kopeyka). The banknotes in use: 10, 50, 100, 500, 1000 and 5000 rubles. It is better to have a small amount of cash with you, 500 – 1000 rubles. Some of the smaller trading shops or cafes do not have the credit card terminals. There are lots of ATMs of various banks in the city for different types of cards, including Visa and Mastercard.

Working Hours

Most Russian public agencies are open from 9.00 to 17.00. Most of the commercial enterprises, however (shops, cafes, etc.) are working until late tonight (22.00 – 23.00), some of them are 24-hours open. The sale of alcohol in shops after 23.00 is strictly prohibited by the law.

Weather

Unpredictable due to the continental climate! In June it is usually warm and sunny (25-30 C). The sun sets very lately in the summertime, around 23.00, and rises quite early. During the solstice, June 21, the sun will set at midnight, and then start rising over horizon already at 4.00.

PRACTICAL INFO


Personal Security

In general, Ekaterinburg is a safe city – as safe as a large modern city with population more than 1,5 million people could be. Still, we would recommend you some useful rules for greater personal security:

Please, comply with the common traffi c regulations: cross the streets only at crosswalks and appropriate traffi c lights. The traffi c might be rather heavy in peak hours.

Do not leave your personal belongings unattended, especially in public places.

Public Transportation

We planned a smart transport scheme, so you won’t need any public transport at all to get to and from ICPC Zone. However, upon registration you received a personal transport smart card EKARTA. This card allows you to use the public transport in Ekaterinburg for free from June 22 to June 25. In buses, trolleys, and trams please hand EKARTA to the conductor to register the trip and get your ticket. When travelling by Metro, EKARTA must be scanned at the entrance turnstile. Attention: some smaller ‘mini-vans’ do not have EKARTA terminals.
