Berklee College of Music alumni vie for 40 golden gramophones at the 57th Annual Grammy Awards onSunday (the pre-telecast ceremony begins at 4 pm on GRAMMY.com/live, the main event begins at 8 pm onCBS.)
Of course the kids chops are as sharp as the grads. To celebrate the school's Grammy link (and to show off alittle), students put together a mashup of songs from four Album of the Year contenders. It's no coincidence thefour albums all feature the work of Berklee alums:
"Beyoncé" (Beyoncé) - Tony Maserati ‘86, engineer/mixer"Morning Phase" (Beck) - David Greenbaum ‘05, engineer/mixer"Girl" (Pharrell Williams) - Stephanie McNally ‘10, engineer"X" (Ed Sheeran) – Jeff Bhasker ’99, producer
Lead by Juan Carreno, Berklee students arranged and recorded a medley of 15 tracks off the nominatedalbums. The result is a blend of styles and talent that's impressive even for the school's high standards. Thesongs spliced up and put back together: Beck's “Morning,” “Heart Is A Drum” and “Say Goodbye,” Beyoncé's“Pretty Hurts,” “Drunk In love,” “7/11” and "Flawless," Ed Sheeran's “Thinking Out Loud,” “Don’t,” “Sing” and“Afire Love,” and Pharrell Williams' "Happy," "Brand New," "Come Get It Babe" and "Marilyn Monroe"
To understand just how big an undertaking this was, dig into the project's credits:
