LOCKOUT/TAGOUT PROCEDURESThe Occupational Safety and Health Administration requiresthat, in addition to posting safety warnings and barricading thework area, the power supply has been locked in the OFFposition or disconnected. It is mandatory that an approvedlockout device is utilized. An example of a lockout device isillustrated. The proper lockout procedure requires that theperson responsible for the repairs is the only person who hasthe ability to remove the lockout device.

In addition to the lockout device, it is also a requirement to tagthe power control in a manner that will clearly note that repairsare under way and state who is responsible for the lockoutcondition. Tagout devices have to be constructed and printed sothat exposure to weather conditions or wet and damp locationswill not cause the tag to deteriorate or become unreadable.

RITE-HITE does not recommendany particular lockout device, butrecommends the utilization of anOSHA approved device (refer toOSHA regulation 1910.147).RITE-HITE Corporation alsorecommends the review andimplementation of an entiresafety program for the Control ofHazardous Energy(Lockout/Tagout). Theseregulations are available throughOSHA publication 3120.

Do not force the unit on by hitting with a hammer. Unitwill fit onto shaft. Check for obstructions and lubricate

more if necessary.

WARNING!!!!8.1

Step 7: Install #35 (#25 for encoder) chain onto

sprockets. Apply tension to chain and tighten

limit switch mounting bolts. To adjust the chain,

loosen up the limit switch mounting bracket

bolts and adjust so the chain deflects

approximately 1/4” [6] (retightened to 66 in/lbs).

More than 1/4” [6] may cause wear on the limit

switch shaft bearing assembly. Make sure chain

is tight enough so it does not slip over the teeth.

Step 1:

Apply a grease lubricant or anti-

seize (not supplied) to the drive

shaft to ease installation and

maintenance of gearbox. Slide

gearbox spacer onto shaft.

Step 6: Install 30 tooth sprocket (15 tooth

used on units >8’ tall) onto the drive shaft

until it hits the shoulder and line up with

the 10 tooth sprocket, may need to loosen

and move the 10 tooth sprocket. Use a

short straight edge to align. When aligned,

tighten the 1/4” [6] set screws onto the flat

spot of the shaft with an 1/8” [3] allen

wrench to 75 in/lbs and lock-tight.

Step 5: Install Limit switch

assembly with the (3) bolts

supplied to the position that best

fits and torque to 230 in/lbs

Step 2:

Slide gearbox onto shaft.

Open and Close Position Adjustment

To adjust CLOSE position:

1. Power up door and press enter button to enter “MAINMENU”.

2. Scroll using up arrow to the item “Close Pos. Adjust”.

3. Press enter button to view parameter value. Thisparameter will show a coded value on the left and relativechange in inches on the right. When entering thisparameter the value will always start at 0.0”.

Change values using the up or down arrows.

To bring the curtain closer to the floor, adjust this value sothat it is less than zero. (i.e. To close the door 4” [102]more, the value for “Close Pos. Adjust” will be -4.0”[102]) Moving this parameter in the positive directionraises the curtain relative to the floor. Changing this valuewill not affect the open position.

Note: If you leave this parameter and return to it, its value willagain be zero. Any changes made before leaving theparameter will still be effective. For example: If youlowered the door 4.0”, leave the parameter and return, theparameter will display 0.0”. Even though the displayshows 0.0” the -4.0” change has been recorded.

4. When parameter is changed press enter button for three(3) seconds to return to the “MAIN MENU”.

5. Test operation of door and continue adjustment.

(i.e. To open the door 4”more, and the current value is 72.0” [1829]. Change thevalue for “Open Pos. Adjust” to be 76.0” [1930]).Changing this value will not affect the close position.

4. When parameter is changed press enter button for three(3) seconds to return to the “MAIN MENU”.

5. Test operation of the door, and continue adjustment.

OPTION DESCRIPTIONOpen Distance Use this option to set the overall opening distance of the door (in feet). For example, for an 8’ tall Defender. This option should

be set to 7’ [178]. This measurement is used for initial position setup only. For small adjustments of the open and close position, use “Close Position Adjust” or “Open Position Adjust”

Set Open Pos Use this option for initial position setup. Manually place door in the open position and select this option. Alternatively “Set Close Pos.” can be used if it is more convenient to place the door in the closed position.NOTE: This option approximately sets the open and close positions. For additional adjustment of the open and close position, use “Close Position Adjust” or “Open Position Adjust”

Set Close Pos Use this option for initial position setup. Manually place door in the close position and select this option. Alternatively “Set Open Pos.” can be used if it is more convenient to place the door in the open position.NOTE: This option approximately sets the open and close positions. For additional adjustment of the open and close position, use “Close Position Adjust” or “Open Position Adjust”

Open Pos Adjust Use this option to make small adjustment to the open position. The number displayed is the measurement between the open and closed position. For example if this option was set to 100” [2540] the door would open 100 inches from the closed position. It is recommended to adjust the closed position of the door first, before adjusting the open position.

Close Pos Adjust Use this option to make small adjustment to the closed position. The number displayed is the relative displacement of the closed position. For example, if this option was set to -1.0”[-25] the door would close approximately 1.0” [25] more. If this option was set to 2.0” [51] the door would close 2.0” [51] less.

Apr Open Pos Use this option to adjust the approach open position. This option is a measurement in inches from the open position. For example, if this option was set to 24.0” [610] the door would slow down 24.0” [610] from the open position.

Encoder Startup The controller is waiting for valid data from the encoder. It the controller does not receive a response at startup, this will remain on the screen indefinitely. If this does not clear with 5 seconds, please check all encoder wiring.

Encoder Read The controller is unable to read valid data from the encoder. Check all wiring. Ensure that the shield on the encoder cable is connected to ground, and that the control box is grounded. The error requires the power to be cycled to reset.

Encoder Velocity The controller has received a signal from the encoder that the door is moving faster than allowed. This can occur if the encoder is not properly attached to the shaft, bad electrical connection to the i-COMM, or improper grounding. The error requires the power to be cycled to reset.

Open Time Limit Door tried to run, but did not reach the open or close position within 8 seconds.Photoeye Failure Non-Drive PE’s must have green light on, drive PE’s must have red & yellow lights on. Check for alignment & power to each.

Defender™ Inverter Program Instructions

When in Status mode, pressing and holding the “M” MODE key for 2 seconds will change the display from displaying a speed indication todisplaying load indication and visa versa.

Pressing and releasing the “M” MODE key will change the display from status mode to parameter view mode. In parameter view mode, the lefthand display flashes the parameter number and the right hand display shows the value of that parameter.

Pressing and releasing the “M” MODE key again will change the display from parameter view mode to parameter edit mode. In parameter editmode, the right hand display flashes the value in the parameter being shown in the left hand display.

Pressing the “M” MODE key in parameter edit mode will return the drive to the parameter view mode. If the “M” MODE key is pressed again thenthe drive will return to status mode, but if either of the “UP” or “DOWN” keys are pressed to change the parameter being viewed before the “M”MODE key is pressed, pressing the “M” MODE key will change the display to the parameter edit mode again. This allows the user to very easilychange between parameter view and edit modes whilst commissioning the drive.

PROBLEM REMEDYControl Box (Optional) The control box contains the necessary motor starters, relays, transformers, etc. to safely control 3 phase

power, open, close and stop push buttons. If control box does not power up, check fuses and replaceas needed.

Curtain The curtain provides a safety barrier against sparks, harmful light emissions and physical contact with the machine by the operator. Spheres are fastened to the curtain to retain the curtain in the guides. Vision windows are available as an option. If curtain does not track properly, lower as far as possible to expose the hook and loop fastener and adjust.

Curtain remains open Optional reversing photoeye alignment incorrect. (Red LED on photoeye off.) Realign photoeye. does not close. Photoeye not set to “Light Operate.” Open photoeye cover to check switch position.

Curtain Guides The guides contain the curtain.

Curtain does not stop Limit switch positioning incorrect. Ensure that the limit switches are properly positioned. Failed limit switch, at limits. check for continuity, replace if necessary. Make sure center locking screw is tight.

Curtain travel reversed. Motor phases reversed. Remove power, reverse wires in terminals L1 & L2.

Curtain will not go up Loss of power. Verify that electrical power is getting to the control box. Bad fuse, check fuses. Make sure or down. nothing is blocking the path of any photoeye light beam.

Curtain tracks off Curtain misaligned. Curtain may need to be adjusted on the hook and loop fastener. Anchors may be looseto one side. Both vertical lower guides must be plumb and level. When a forklift bumps into the guides it could cause

damage or misalignment. Repair as required. The distance between guides must be the same when measured at the top and bottom. Shim or remount as required.

Interlock Devices The interlock keeps the machine from functioning unless the curtain is in position. The interlock mounts on (Optional) the bottom of the guide and is activated by the curtain when it comes into the closed position.

Limit Assembly If limits come out of adjustment, make sure the center locking screw is tightened down, Page 13.Motor Assembly The motor assembly includes the motor, gearbox, brake and limit switch or encoder. For wiring of the

motor, Page 24. If motor doesn’t run, look for loose connections, check all connections in terminals T1, T2, T3, and the connectors. Brake not releasing. Check brake connections.

Guides The guides are made of a welded structure and are bolted to the header to support the weight of the DEFENDER.
