3 August, 2017
Dear Parents and Guardians, I hope you’re looking forward to the Fete as much as our students are! The excitement is building, with only 3 sleeps until our Annual Fete. If you haven’t already volunteered to assist and are able to do so, please logon to Signup.com to select your time. Full login instructions are in the email sent out on 25 July. District Track & Field All the best to the 17 students representing Guardian Angels’ School at the District Athletics today and Friday. Thank you to Steve Luke and parents for marshalling, supervising and transporting our athletes. Staffing News 2018 I am pleased to announce the appointment of Alana Curran as a class teacher at Guardian Angels’ School from the commencement of 2018. Alana currently teaches Year 4 at Xavier College, Hervey Bay and comes to us via BCE’s Change of School Process. Alana comes highly recommended by her current Principal. We look forward to Alana joining our vibrant learning community in 2018. Student Support – Case Management In the next few weeks, parents of students who have been verified with a disability will receive information regarding who their school case manager will be for the remainder of 2017. The Case Management model of support has many benefits for parents, one of which is having one point of contact beyond the classroom. Shortly, you will receive a letter outlining this approach along with the name of your case manager. I trust parents will find this change helpful in partnering with the school regarding the needs of your child. Pedestrian and Child Safety The Brisbane City Council has notified the school that they will be attending all school zones, including ours, to ensure safe parking and compliant use of the pick up and drop off zones. Parking fines may be issued in cases where illegal parking is observed. Please visit the Council’s website www.brisbane.qld.gov.au/traffic-transport/parking-permits/parking-rules to learn more about parking rules in Brisbane. See you at the Fete, Craig

Fete The fete is now only three sleeps away! The months of hard work and preparation will all come together this Sunday. A very big thankyou to everyone who has volunteered to help on a stall on Sunday. This is our major fundraiser for the year, so come along, have fun, and help out your school. Of course, while it is always fantastic for our fete to be financially successful, the sense of community spirit the fete fosters is of even greater importance. It’s always rewarding to see the happy faces and excitement on fete day. Playground Painting For some months now we have been liaising with a company called Graphic Lines who have designed a colourful, engaging play space to be painted on the rejuvenated asphalt in the area between the Administration building and the hall on the junior campus. Great news! The asphalt is deemed to have cured sufficiently for the painted designs to be put down. This will take place in Week 9 of this term. We are all very excited about the upcoming transformation. It will mean a major disruption for a few days, but the end result should make it all worthwhile. More details in the newsletter in coming weeks. Late to School Reminder! We still have students arriving at school after the bell has gone and signing themselves in at the office. This is happening mainly on Mt Carmel campus, probably because the students are older. Parents, it is a requirement that if ANY child arrives late to school, a parent MUST accompany their child to the office and complete a late slip. Students are not permitted to do this. We understand this takes a little longer, but it is very important that this be followed. Thank you for your co-operation in this matter. Have a great week everyone. Dawn Morrissey

Virtue This fortnight each class will be looking at the virtue of Thankfulness. Thankfulness is being grateful for what you have. It is an attitude of gratitude for learning, loving, and being. It is appreciating the little
things which happen around us every day. We are practising thankfulness when we: Have an attitude of gratitude Appreciate our own abilities instead of envying
others See the difficulties in our lives as opportunities to
learn Are receptive of gifts from others Appreciate the beauty of this Earth
St Mary of the Cross MacKillop The 8th August each year is the day we remember and celebrate the feast day of Saint Mary of the Cross MacKillop. Born in 1842 in Fitzroy, Melbourne, after her mother and father migrated to Australia from
Scotland, she dedicated her early life to educating poor children in regional Penola, South Australia, and at the age of 25 founded the Sisters of St Joseph of the Sacred Heart. She was the first Australian nun to set up an order and the first to go outside the cities and minister to the poor. St Mary died in Sydney on August 8th in 1909. Saint Mary MacKillop was canonised on 17th October 2010 by Pope Benedict XVI in Rome. She is Australia's first saint and St Mary is most remembered by her most famous saying “Never see a need without doing something about it”.
Reflection Provider God you gave us Mary MacKillop. She spent her life loving you and bringing your love to the poor children in Australia. She still works on through her Sisters of St Joseph and their Associates. We thank you God and pray that you will bless us so that we can follow her example. We ask this in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen
Blessings for the coming week, Kind regards Debbie Young

State Cross Country Congratulations to Emily Gallagher who came 3rd in the Qld Athletics State Cross Country titles at Maleny on the weekend. Well done Emily!
State Soccer Congratulations to Ella O'Grady. Ella was chosen to play for the Metropolitan East Soccer Team and recently spent 5 days in Hervey Bay competing at the State Championships. Not only did the team win the entire tournament (for the second year in a row), Ella was named co-captain, received player
of the match 3 out of 4 times and was named as one of the best players of the tournament.
Ella has now been selected to represent QLD at the National Titles later this year, an amazing and well deserved achievement.
