FROM THE STUDENTS’ QUILLS

SAY NO TO CRACKERS, SAVE THE ENVIRONMENT Say no to crackers, save the environment

This was our yearlong movement

Come Diwali, into the wind it went, it seemed

With tons of crackers in their hands, people just beamed

How can we be such hypocrites?

Don’t we care about our planet?

Elderly, children struggling to breathe

But for some Diwali is just a cracker treat

For some, Greta is just a material for GIFs and memes

They think it's just a joke what she speaks

Why do we not understand?

We are paving a way towards the end

What will it take for you to stop?

Why don’t you understand we are on a clock?

What more canI say.....

Even my words will for them remain unheards, unsaid

Maybe I could ask all of you to try one last time

To save the planet that's both yours and mine

YOU

It is in your strength, not in your Stars

Which can reverberate your voice to Mars.

It is in your action, not in your say

Which the world will continue to pray.

It is in your kindness, not in your Gold

Which will buy hearts millionfold.

It is in your smile, not in your shadows

Which can bring untimely rainbows.

It is in your belief, not in your despair

Which will melt away the destroyer.

It is in YOU which can take this Universe,

Till the altitude of the Heaven's Converse

THE INVISIBLE LIGHT

Everyday seems to be a different story, And quite surprisingly ends up as a tragedy. Every person has his own history, And for me it remains a mystery. As life goes on, I become more and more adept, Not in attaining wealth but in identifying different faces. I help people in distress, And in return they stab me unbelievably. For I didn’t know that appearances could be so deceiving, For I couldn’t understand these human foibles. Yet, I continue to follow your path my Lord, and spread your radiance. I try to hear the whispers of the sky, It tells me to leave all my pride. And when I do so They use me for achieving their own prize, And I become a marionette. I feel the untouched slaps and the unseen knives, Which leave me completely bewildered, vexed. So tell me O Lord! How do I become free from vanity? If people continue to take profit of my modesty. In this world of cheats and tricks; greed and pricks, I struggle to survive. As each day comes and goes, I persistently try to carry my masked smile. I crave for the blessings which I might earn after doing good deeds, But Alas! It seems like an illusion. Yet I follow your path my Lord! And try to restore humanity, For it does not lie in luxury but in your name and in charity.

CURTAINS

Don't judge me by my appearance, Don't judge me by my voice, You don't know my reasons, So please don't judge my choice. They see me through the window, They comment on my smile. They watch my every move, They record it in a file. They don't like you being happy, They still judge you in sorrow. They did it yesterday, And will do it tomorrow. I'm lying on the floor, They are watching me scream. They are making fun of me, And it's not a dream. I had been fearful, I had been uncertain. Their judgement still scares me, So now I draw curtains. I don't let them know, Whether I'm happy or in grief. So they can't judge me now, That's pretty much a relief. Inch by Inch I determine to carve my own way, Bit by bit I will surely speak my mind So Now I draw curtains, For I feel pretty safe and sound.

PEER PRESSURE: A BOON OR BANE?

The famous Hollywood actor Bruce Lee, once said “I’m not in this world to live up to your

expectations and you’re not in this world to live up to mine.” Youngsters these days face a

lot of problems, and often turn to their friends to take advice on the decisions they make as

they feel their friends are going through the same situation and understand them better. As

they grow into self-dependent individuals, they start questioning the adults and their

practices. They try to bring in new values and cultures, with the help of their friends with

whom they have no fear of being ridiculed. But as soon as one refers to ‘peer pressure’, many

youngsters cringe as these two words are laden with negative connotation. While peer

pressure if goes berserk is responsible for pushing teens towards substance abuse and other

dangerous practices, it also plays an important role in maintaining a healthy

competitiveness among children, which urges them to work hard and perform better. It

forces teens to perform at par with their friends whether it is sports or academics. Whether

a child loses himself in the process of feeling included, or makes his own group with high

values and morals, it totally depends on the decisions and actions by the child himself. In

today’s world, one should know what is right and wrong, what should be done and what

shouldn’t be. One should

know how to say no to the negative and yes to the positive. Today’s generation needs to

realize that it’s better to walk alone than with a crowd moving in the wrong direction. In

the end, whether peer influence is a boon or bane is a manifestation of an individual’s own

views and interpretation.
