Overview of Single Site Verification

Ensure that basic functions of cells at each site of the area to be

optimized (such as access and call) are proper before the RF

optimization.

Separate the problems to be addressed in network optimization such

as call drop and access caused by network coverage from those

caused by device functions, which facilitates the subsequent problem

location and troubleshooting, and increases the network operation

efficiency.

Be familiar with the site location, configuration, ambient wireless

environment in the area to be optimized through single site

verification, which lays a sound foundation for further optimization.

Preparations for Single Site Verification

Site state and alarm check

Ensure that no alarm is generated in the cell to be measured, and

the cell to be measured works properly before the site check.

For each NEs such as the RNC, NodeB, MSC, and SGSN, check for

the board and transmission faults of each NE by the LMT or M2000.

Identify the causes and clear the faults to the greatest extent.

Check the state of cells to be measured by the RNC LMT or M2000.

Ensure that the establishments of all cells are complete, the

Management State is set to Unblocking, the cell operation state is

Available.

MML command to query the cell state: DSP CELL

Page 12HUAWEI TECHNOLOGIES CO., LTD. HUAWEI Confidential

Preparations for Single Site Verification

Site state and alarm check

Generally, product support engineers check the cell state and

alarm, analyze and solve the identified alarm and state problems.

Before the site verification, the optimization engineers need to

confirm with the product support engineers whether the alarm is

generated, whether problems are solved, and whether cell state is

proper.

The engineers need to pay special attention to intermittent alarms.

For example, the transmission alarm can be automatically reset,

which may cause network instability, or have adverse impact on

services.

Page 13HUAWEI TECHNOLOGIES CO., LTD. HUAWEI Confidential

Preparations for Single Site Verification

Site state and alarm check

Check whether alarms are generated in NEs in the Core

Network, such as MSC, SGSN, and GGSN.

− In the cell undergone single site verification, make one or two

phone calls to check whether the functions are proper.

− You need not consult the product support engineers from the

core network each time before the check.

Preparations for Single Site Verification

Configuration data collection and check

Before the site check, collect the configuration data of network

planning and other data in RNC database, and ensure that the

configured data is consistent with the planned one.

The configuration data can be collected and analyzed by using:

− Collect the configuration data by MML scripts

− Query and analyze the configuration data by Nastar

Page 15: GSM-To-UMTS Training Series 13_WCDMA Single Site Verification_V1.0

Preparations for Single Site Verification

Configuration data collection and check

Check whether the cell configuration data is consistent with the

planned one, such as NODEBNAME, LOCELL ID, MAXTXPOWER,

LAC, RAC, PSCRAMBCODE, and UARFCNDOWNLINK.

-MML to query the cell configuration data: LST CELL

The parameters configured in the network planning are obtained

from the Wireless Parameter Planning List prepared in the network

planning phase. After the check is complete, the Wireless

Parameter Configuration List is developed for the optimization

phase. The items are the same as those in the Wireless Parameter

Planning List.

Test scope

Scrambling code check: Check whether the scrambling code or

frequency received by the UE/Scanner are consistent with planned

ones. In this way, you can infer whether the downlink feeders are

connected reversely.

Frequency check: Query the frequency number in the current cell from

the handset in engineering mode.

Coverage check: Know the downlink coverage of the cell by checking

the CPICH RSCP and CPICH Ec/Io.

Ordinary voice service, VP service, and PS service test: Ensure that the

basic functions such as cell access and call are proper.

RX antenna diversity test: Check whether the uplink antenna system is

reversely connected.

Single Site Verification–Site Selection

Site selection

When time is limited, select a certain proportion of sites (10%-15%)

to be checked after effective communication with the operator.

Sites are selected in accordance with the following principles:

Site with key coverage areas

Site with predicted high traffic

Site with large coverage areas

Site satisfying the requirements of operators

If the operator is also the 2G network operator, select the site in

accordance with the key coverage area and traffic of the 2G

network.

Page 22: GSM-To-UMTS Training Series 13_WCDMA Single Site Verification_V1.0

Page 22HUAWEI TECHNOLOGIES CO., LTD. HUAWEI Confidential

Single Site Verification-Location Selection

Location selection

The current 3G test handset does not have the descrambling function. The

cell to be measured arranges the test location to ensure proper test

services. The test is performed in the test location where the signals of

target cell are strong, and signals of other cells are weak.

The cell to be measured arranges the test location to ensure proper test

services. Ideally, the test personnel cooperate with the engineering

personnel to disable the power amplifier of other intra-frequency cells except

the cell to be measured. Thus, only signals in this cell are maintained. In this

case, no requirements for the location selection are available.

Page 23: GSM-To-UMTS Training Series 13_WCDMA Single Site Verification_V1.0

Page 23HUAWEI TECHNOLOGIES CO., LTD. HUAWEI Confidential

Single Site Verification-Location Selection

Location selection

If the power amplifiers in other cells cannot be disabled, the test point

should be near the center of the cell, with line-of-sight distance to the

NodeB. In this way, better coverage and little signal fluctuation are

implemented. For a macro cell, the test spot should be less than 100 m

from the NodeB in the direction of major beam of cell antenna, with line-of-

sight distance to the NodeB.

The test spot should not locate right under the NodeB because other

sectors in the same NodeB also have strong signals, which cannot ensure

that the test is performed in the cell to be measured. The test spot is

determined by observing CPICH RSCP measured by the Scanner.

Page 24: GSM-To-UMTS Training Series 13_WCDMA Single Site Verification_V1.0

Page 24HUAWEI TECHNOLOGIES CO., LTD. HUAWEI Confidential

Single Site Verification-Location Selection

Location selection

The test spot is determined according to the strength of the

CPICH RSCP. Ensure that the CPICH RSCP in the cell to be

measured is strong and that of other cells is weak. In addition,

the change amplitude of CPICH RSCP in cells should not be

excessive.

Notes: If the operator is the 2G network operator, and the 3G

network and 2G network share one site, the test spot is

determined with reference to the coverage of 2G sites.

Test of scrambling code, frequency, and LAC/RAC

Objectivity: Check whether the scrambling code, frequency, and

LAC/RAC are consistent with planned ones by the drive test. Check

whether the TX signals of a certain cell are connected to the antenna

system of other cells.

Descriptions

If the power amplifier of neighboring cell is disabled, check whether the

scrambling code and frequency are consistent with planned ones. In

addition, check whether the signal strength of the corresponding cell is

consistent with that as planned.

If multiple carriers are not applied to a certain site, you need not to

observe the signal frequency.

Test of signal coverage

Objectivity: Through the drive test, check whether the CPICH RSCP and

CPICH Ec/Io received by the scanner or UE are greater than the preset

thresholds. Ensure that the TMA works properly, the antenna connection

is proper, the antenna tilt and azimuth are consistent with those as

planned, no building blocking is available.

Descriptions

− Closely related to the site type (macro cell or micro cell) and loading, the

CPICH RSCAP and CPRICH Ec/Io should be set after communication

with operators.

− If the operator is the 2G network operator, and the 3G network and 2G

network share one site, check for signal coverage problems by

comparison with the coverage of 2G site.

Call test

Objectivity: Through call test, check whether the calling and called voice services are

proper and the voice quality is in good conditions. Ensure that the calling and called VP

services are proper, and voice quality and image quality are in good conditions. Ensure

that the call of PS service and PS service rate are proper.

Descriptions

− Ideally, in the equipment room at the site, When the engineering installation personnel

perform the device commissioning and installation, the power amplifier is disabled to

ensure the test in the target cell.

− The voice quality and image quality are determined by the subjective feelings of the test

personnel.

− The PS service rate is related to the customer subscription rate, and may be affected by

the bit error repeat and spending of different layers.

Call test

Methods

− Use test UE to perform the voice call test in each cell, and check

whether the voice unclarity, voice discontinuity, and one-way audio

occur based on subjective feelings.

− Use test UE to perform the VP call test. Check whether the mosaic

appears on the video.

− Browse web pages in each cell, access one page to experience the

Internet connection rate. Check whether the download rate displayed

on the Probe meets the test requirements.

Single Site Verification–Test Items (4) Antenna diversity test

Method 1: Cross-connect feeder check

Connect the two feeders of the cell to be measured to the top of the cabinet so that the

output power take-off (PTO) is transmitted through another antenna. Check whether the

CPICH RSCPs received by the UE/Scanner before and after the cross-connection

change significantly. If no changes are available, you can infer that the RX antenna

system is connected properly. In normal situations, the change of CPICH RSCP before

and after the cross-connection should be less than 2 dB.

Page 34: GSM-To-UMTS Training Series 13_WCDMA Single Site Verification_V1.0

Page 34HUAWEI TECHNOLOGIES CO., LTD. HUAWEI Confidential

Single Site Verification–Test Items (4)

Antenna diversity test

Method 2: Test UE is set to transmit signals at the fixed maximum power

If the test UE supports the transmission at the fixed maximum power (Huawei U626, for example), you need not to change feeders in the equipment room. Instead, set the UE to transmit signals at the fixed maximum power to perform the test.

− When the UE works in idle mode, the uplink RTWP monitoring of three cells of the NodeB under test is initiated.

− The service access is implemented in the direction of antenna main lobe in the cell to be measured. If the RX diversity antenna is connected properly, only the RTWP of this test cell increases remarkably. Otherwise, the RTWP in other sectors also increases.

− In this way, you can check whether the RX antenna diversity works properly.
