    :n the LibreOffice Onine pdatepage %igure 1M'( you can choose whether and how oten toha)e the program chec, the $ibre:ice website or program updates. the Check for updatesautomaticallyoption is selected( an icon appears at the right6hand end o the menu bar when anupdate is a)ailable. Clic, this icon to open a dialog where you can choose to download the update.

    Select this option so that when a document loads( it ignores the stored settings in a)or o thesettings on your computer.

    !oad printer settings with the document enabled( the printer settings will be loaded with the document. This can cause a document tobe printed on a distant printer %perhaps in an oice setting'( i you do not change the printermanually in the #rint dialog. disabled( your standard printer will be used to print thisdocument. The current printer settings will be stored with the document whether or not thisoption is selected.

    +uto-eco)ery in $ibre:ice sa)es the inormation needed to restore all open documents incase o a crash. you ha)e this option set( reco)ering your document ater a system crash willbe easier.

    + relati)e address always starts rom the directory in which the current document is located. ncontrast( absolute addressing always starts rom a root directory. The ollowing tabledemonstrates the dierence in synta= between relati)e and absolute reerencing&

    you choose to sa)e relati)ely( the reerences to embedded graphics or other obJects in yourdocument will be sa)ed relati)e to the location in the ile system. n this case( it does not matterwhere the reerenced directory structure is recorded. The iles will be ound regardless olocation( as long as the reerence remains on the same dri)e or )olume. This is important i youwant to ma,e the document a)ailable to other computers that may ha)e a completely dierentdirectory structure( dri)e or )olume names. t is also recommended to sa)e relati)ely i youwant to create a directory structure on an nternet ser)er.

    you preer absolute sa)ing( all reerences to other iles will also be deined as absolute(based on the respecti)e dri)e( )olume or root directory. The ad)antage is that the documentcontaining the reerences can be mo)ed to other directories or olders( and the reerencesremain )alid.

    that uses earlier )ersions o :5 %1.0/1.1'( some o the ad)anced eatures may be lost. Twonotable e=amples are cross6reerences to headings and the ormatting o numbered lists. youplan to share documents with people who use editors that use older )ersions o :5( you maywish to sa)e the document using :5 )ersion 1.0/1.1.

    4i=e optimi=ation for ,F format. $ibre:ice documents are L8$ iles. hen you select thisoption( $ibre:ice writes the L8$ data without indents and line brea,s. you want to be ableto read the L8$ iles in a te=t editor in a structured orm( deselect this option.

    ,ocument type" you routinely share documents with users o 8icrosot :ice( you mightwant to change the Always save asattribute or documents to one o the 8icrosot :iceormats. Current )ersions o 8icrosot ord can open :5T iles( so this may no longer beneeded.

    Note+lthough $ibre:ice can open and sa)e iles in the .doc= and .=ls= ormatsproduced by 8icrosot :ice 200A and 2010( it does not yet sa)e in .ppt= ormat.This capability is planned or a uture release.

    Choosing language settings

    There are se)eral options to customie the language setting in $ibre:ice&

    nstall the reDuired dictionaries

    Change some locale and language settings

    Choose spelling options

    'nstall the re;uired dictionaries

    $ibre:ice automatically installs se)eral dictionaries with the program. To add other dictionaries(be sure you are connected to the nternet( and then use Tools >!anguage >More ,ictionaries

    nline. $ibre:ice will open your deault web browser to a page containing lin,s to additional

    dictionaries that you can install. ollow the prompts to select and install the ones you want.

    Change some locale and language settings

    You can change some details o the locale and language settings that $ibre:ice uses or alldocuments( or or speciic documents.

    n the :ptions dialog( clic, !anguage 4ettings > !anguages. The e=act list shown depends onthe 0nhanced anguage supportsettings %see igure 2

    Choose spelling options

    Some considerations&

    you do not want spelling chec,ed while you type( deselect Check spelling as you type

    and select ,o not mark errors. %To ind the second item( scroll down in the :ptions list.'

    you want grammar to be chec,ed as you type( you must ha)e Check spelling as youtypeenabled too.

    you use a custom dictionary that includes words in all upper case and words withnumbers %or e=ample( +S/

    Controlling !ibreffice)s AutoCorrect functions

    Some people ind some or all o the items in $ibre:ices +utoCorrect unction annoying becausethey change what you type when you do not want it changed. 8any people ind some o the+utoCorrect unctions Duite helpulE i you do( then select the rele)ant options. 4ut i you indune=plained changes appearing in your document( this is a good place to loo, to ind the cause.
