Brightlingsea Town Show The Town Show is organized by the

Brightlingsea and District Horticultural Society, which hasbeen organizing shows for well over a hundred years,except for gaps during and immediately after the twoworld wars of the last century. It is now held in theCommunity Centre in Colne Road, with the Show itselfinside (entry 50p) and many outside activities. Refresh-ments are available throughout the day and these includean always-popular barbecue. The main outside attractionis the Exemption Dog Show and for which entries aremade on the day. There are classes for every type ofdog and this is the favourite event for young people,whether they are two or a hundred and two.

Outside activities begin well before theShow is opened at 12.00 noon by the Deputy of theCinque Port Liberty of Brightlingsea, who this year is Mr Doug Stone. The Town Mayor, Mr Graham Steady,will also be at the opening, as will the Carnival Queen and Princesses, who add a touch of glamour to the occasion.

The Horticultural Show itself is open toanyone and entries can be made up to August 21st.There are classes for flowers, vegetables, fruit, floralarrangements, cookery, preserves, handicrafts andphotography for adults and a number of classes foryoung people, in two age categories. There aremany cups and medals to be won and there are smallmonetary prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd in each class.But the important thing is that it is fun to enter andeven a single rose or gladiolus or longest runnerbean! - can win a prize, and it is fascinating to walkround and see the many talents of the entrants.Schedules with full details are available from severalshops in the town.
