Scripture reading: Psalm 40:1-10
One: I waited patiently for the Lord; All: who inclined to me and heard my cry.
The Lord drew me up from the desolate pit, out of the miry bog,
and set my feet upon a rock, making my steps secure.
One: The Lord put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our God. All: Many will see and fear, and put their trust in the Lord.
One: Blessed are those who make the Lord their trust, All: who do not turn to the proud, to those who go astray after false gods.
One: You have multiplied, O Lord my God, your wondrous deeds
and your thoughts toward us; none can compare with you. All: Were I to proclaim and tell of them,
they would be more than can be counted.
One: Sacrifice and offering you do not desire,
but you have given me an open ear.
Burnt offering and sin offering you have not required.

January 28 – Working with international mission partners Effective mission partnership is a covenant relationship between people who are striving to bring about God’s realm of justice and peace. In 2017, gifts to Presbyterians Sharing provided some of the PCC’s international partners with 30 grants totaling $320,000. These grants supported Bible translation in Nigeria and Mauritius; women’s pastoral programs in Guatemala; biblical, theological and pastoral training in Mauritius and Guatemala; theological seminaries in Lebanon, Malawi and Romania; lay training centres in Ghana and Malawi; refugee programs in Lebanon and Palestine; and medical centres in India. Mission and vital world-wide ministry partnerships that put people first happen because of the faithful generosity of Presbyterians across Canada. Gifts to Presbyterians Sharing allow our church to be with those on the margins and change lives around the world. Presbyterians Sharing supports international partnerships because they matter

The Salvation Army would like to extend a huge thank you for your support of the 2017 Christmas Kettle Campaign. With the dedication and help from Chalmers Church, we were able to provide 4,820 food hampers to local families this past Christmas and 6,536 children received a bag of toys. The funds that are raised at the kettles help make a difference to the thousands of families and individuals in our community that look to us for help during Christmas and throughout the year. We are pleased to tell you that we exceeded our goal of $550,000, reaching a grand total of $627,404!! Our calculations indicate that $12,246.08 was raised at the kettle location that was staffed by Chalmers during the kettle campaign.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Soup’er Sunday next week! Proceeds will support sending campers from Chalmers and our community to Camp Kintail this summer.
LIBRARY NEWS
Pacific Rim Series by Don Brown The second book in this series is called Fire of the Raging Dragon and takes place in the South China Sea. Lieutenant Commander Gunner McCormick appears in this story too - but in a fairly minor role. War almost breaks out between China and the US. The daughter of the US president is stationed aboard a submarine in the South China Sea when a gruesome discovery escalates the war and the president has to make a decision on whether to rescue his daughter or take a stand against this discovery. WARNING - there is a gruesome part in this book - and I have marked it! I skipped over it - and still understood the whole story - and still enjoyed it. The warning with page numbers is noted on the front cover of the book. Christine Hunter, Librarian
