GROW OLD HEALTH DOCUMENTARY

0 1 Minutes Montage of shots of tablets and vox pops. Light hearted music, with some serious tones, giving a certain atmosphere to the documentary. Voice over explaining what is being shown. Short clip of expert interview this is an MCU shot (conventions).

1-2 Minutes Montage of vox pops continues. Close up of tablet. Title screen. Music light hearted starts, music almost gives a curious atmosphere. Voice over talking about ageing, and how health effects our age. Montage of old people and young kids. Young kids talking could add some humor within the segment.

2-3 Minutes String of vox pops. Again young kids add humor into the segment when talking about what they consider old. Lighthearted music continues. Close up on hairs and skin emphasizes point that the kids are making.

3-4 Minutes Expert interviews commenting on ageing this provides a little break from the voiceover and filmed footage. Wide and close ups of a family eating together. Theres no music, complete silence other than the diegetic sound within the footage.

4-5 minutes Music starts again; same curious like soundtrack starts again. The voiceover starts again, prompting questions to the audience, which leads onto the expert interviews. Panning close ups of the elderly, possibly to emphasize the points that the voiceover is making. Archive footage.

What codes and conventions would we understand and take from this? Voiceover/narrator- this is a key convention in documentaries and is known as a voice of god. It helps the reader follow the story and to come to a conclusion from the point given by the narrator. Music/sound- music is also a must when it comes to documentaries; this sets the mood of the documentary and makes it more interesting to watch. Montage/variety of images- montages are also a common convention of documentaries they are interesting to watch and show the audience relative visual information about the documentary.

From doing this research we now know some of the important codes and conventions that we will need to use in our documentary to help us create a realistic and professional documentary.
