Gardens

Millennium Garden Designed by world renowned Piet Oudolf The Millennium Garden is a mixture of perennials and grasses which blend

seamlessly into the landscape here at Pensthorpe. The Millennium Garden,

originally planted in 1999, is one of the first designs that Piet has revisited so it

could be replanted in 2010. The garden has all-year interest starting with spring

bulbs flowing onto a rich tapestry of greens provided by the emerging

perennials and grasses. During the height of the summer, the garden comes

into a league of its own, putting on a grand display with a kaleidoscope of

sumptuous colour. The garden then mellows into the delightful golden and

russet hues of autumn before becoming a

dramatic sculptural seed head garden in the crisp days of winter. The

diverse seasonal needs of wildlife have not been forgotten. There are

butterflies galore from early summer through to early autumn, birds

hunting for nesting material in spring, grubs throughout the summer and

then seeds from the flowers in the autumn and winter. Wave and Waveline Garden Designed by Chelsea Gold Award winner Julie Toll With its meandering paths and the most beautiful lakeside environment, the Wave

Garden is filled with ferns, Lilyturf, Euphorbia, Geranium, Aquilegia and Campanula

species. Spring flowers include Brunnera Langtrees, Primula, carpets of Ladies

Bedstraw and Stitchwort, Helleborus, Pulmonaria and Omphalodes cappadocica.

You can also enjoy elevated views of the Millennium Garden from tranquil seating

areas in the WaveLine Garden.

Wildlife Habitat Garden The Wildlife Habitat Garden is divided into dierent habitat types and areas:

Dragonflies and Amphibians, Bats and Moths, Beetles, Garden Birds, Butterflies,

Reptiles and Bees. It has been planted accordingly and attracts a huge array of

insects and small birds. Two meadow areas have been planted with several hundred

native wildflower plants to form a Bee Meadow and Butterfly Meadow. Spring bulbs

include dwarf Iris, dwarf Narcissus and Muscari.
