From the President Continued from Page 1I know sometimes people forget that the Trustees and Members of our Club volunteer their time and talents to help this Club be able to carry out its mission to help those in need. Some people help out in the daily running of the Club, while others sell tickets and attend the Club events. No Club can survive without a great membership behind it. If anyone knows a friend or family member who would like to join, please feel free to have them call me or Richard Grosfield. (586-801-0410) [email protected] for Bill Turner and [email protected] for Dick Grosfield. Joining is easy. I want to thank you all again for your continued support for the Grosse Pointe Crisis Club. Without Members like you, we could not help those in need.

Crisis Case CornerBy Donald H. Vormelker, Crisis Case Director

Case 1667 J. Oreson - D. VormelkerA social worker from Orchards Children Services recommended a single mother with two children whose father had repeatedly abused the children. She finally decided she had to get out of the home to protect her children. The Club paid for the security deposit and first month’s rent so she could move to a new location.

Case 1668 J. Oreson – D. VormelkerA St. John’s Ascension Services social worker requested assistance for a single mother with three small children who was laid off and the father was not paying his child support. She recently went back to work but was late on her rent and facing possible eviction. The Club paid two month’s rent to avoid eviction.

Case 1669 J. Oreson – D. VormelkerA speech therapist recommended a family whose four children perished in a trailer park fire. The parents and last child were in the hospital being treated but needed a new location to live once they were released. The Club paid the security deposit and the first month rent so they could move to a new location.

Case 1670 J. Oreson – D. VormelkerA single mother with three children contacted the GPCC hotline for help. She had received the number from a Club Member and was requesting assistance with rent due to missing work because of some recent medical issues with her youngest child. The Club bought her rent up to date.

Case 1671 J. Oreson – D. VormelkerOrchards Children Services called the Crisis Club about a mother with three young children that needed to move to avoid future domestic violence. She left abruptly and took nothing with her. The Club helped her with move in costs and Meijer gift cards for clothes for the children and food.

Case 1672 J. Oreson - D. VormelkerThe Van Elslander Cancer Center social worker contacted the GPCC about a family whose young son was being treated for cancer. Due to medical expenses and the father missing work to assist with the treatments for his son, they got behind on their mortgage payments. The Club paid two months mortgage payments to bring them up to date.

Case 1673 J. Oreson – D. VormelkerA client from Orchards Children Services referred a single mother with three children who worked two jobs but needed financial assistance with her mortgage payments and utilities due to her ex-husband not paying his child support. The Club helped with her mortgage payments and her utility bills. 3

POTENTIAL ADVERTISERSDear Members and Friends:

In order to continue to furnish the Membership and the present Advertisers with our wonderfully communicative Newsletters, we need to add MANY NEW ads to be able to absorb our every increasing costs. We need more of the Regular $300 ads and Double Size $400 ads. Our Membership is increasing, and their Companies can be added and the pages increased.

We continue to seek Advertisers, and can increase our advertising space to accommodate new Advertisers. Our hope is that you, our Members and supporters, consider promoting your company or service in a Crisis Club advertisement opportunity.

Below are rate and size specifications for the best advertising buys to be found. If we can add a page or two of advertising, we can keep our rates at these extremely competitive levels. Non-members are welcome at a slightly higher cost (unless they care to become a Member at the $100.00 application fee, which includes their first year’s dues).

Please call me or email me with your interest or any questions and thank you for considering the Grosse Pointe Crisis Club in your marketing efforts. We will prepare your ad at no cost.

Regards,James (Jimmy) Maniere Sr., Advertising Chairman - (586) 419-5990 or [email protected]

Matching Donor program is BACK!

The Grosse Pointe Crisis Club is proud to announce that the Matching Donor Program is back for 2019. The need for our funds has never been higher and the coffers of the Club need replenishing if we are to continue our work through the Holiday Season. One generous Club Member has agreed to match any and all donations made through Christmas 2019 up to $1000 per donation. So please, take the time to write a check, or bring one to the annual meeting on November 7th at the Vintage House on Utica Road or bring it to Comedy night the following night on November 8th at the Barrister Gardens in St. Clair Shores. Your gift will count double and instead of helping 2-3 families a month, we’d like to increase the number of families we help per month. And only you can make that happen!

Yes, we know that the tax deduction isn’t there this year for most of us. But you only need to read this issue’s list of recent Cases to remind yourself that tax deductions is not why we do what we do. Because of you, many children are safe in their beds with food and clothing that otherwise would have been in distress. So give generously and give now! You are needed! You are IMPORTANT! Payments can be mailed to The Grosse Pointe Crisis Club at 18640 Mack Ave, Unit 36243, Grosse Pointe Farms, MI 48236.
