Welkom....hello to all We hope that you all had a wonderful break – it was a glorious start with sunshine and warmth over Easter weekend, and then a sun filled holiday break where everyone could get outside. It was also lovely to see so many competing in the “Pongaroar” hunting Roar competition, and congratulations to all those involved. Thank you also to all those who attended/participated in the two ANZAC services. Well done to all the students involved and a special thanks to Mrs Phelps and Mr Smit for their organisation here at school and at Wimbledon. The ‘Bus Challenge’ was a huge success, and after a very close contest was won by the Akitio bus. There were lovely letters of appreciation given to our bus drivers, lots of good mornings and thank yous and most importantly the students were focused on the positive and having a fun and enjoyable, but safe, ride to and from school. The Wimbledon/Herbertville almost took first place with extra points for convincing Mr Murphy to also wear mufti and give $2 to the house captain fund! It is an opportune time to say an enormous THANK YOU to our wonderful bus drivers who not only bring the children safely to school, but also take an interest in their everyday lives. We are very lucky to have them! This term we have a science focus, based around Planet Earth and Beyond. The junior and middle classrooms are exploring the natural world around them and how it helps to explain the past. They will be looking at fossils, landforms and of course, dinosaurs! The senior students will be exploring what we know about space, how scientist’s ideas are always changing and how we could use this information in the future to ensure human survival. I have all fingers and toes crossed that your dinner tables will have an extra special buzz as the students talk about what they learned that day or what questions they came up with/found out answers to. So we will be off to a busy start….but can’t wait! Week One Term 2 ~ 1 May 2017

Kia Ora Koutou…. Welkom....hello to all

We hope that you all had a wonderful break – it was a glorious start with sunshine and

warmth over Easter weekend, and then a sun filled holiday break where everyone

could get outside. It was also lovely to see so many competing in the “Pongaroar”

hunting Roar competition, and congratulations to all those involved. Thank you also

to all those who attended/participated in the two ANZAC services. Well done to all

the students involved and a special thanks to Mrs Phelps and Mr Smit for their

organisation here at school and at Wimbledon.

The ‘Bus Challenge’ was a huge success, and after a very close contest was won by

the Akitio bus. There were lovely letters of appreciation given to our bus drivers, lots of

good mornings and thank yous and most importantly the students were focused on

the positive and having a fun and enjoyable, but safe, ride to and from school. The

Wimbledon/Herbertville almost took first place with extra points for convincing Mr

Murphy to also wear mufti and give $2 to the house captain fund! It is an opportune

time to say an enormous THANK YOU to our wonderful bus drivers who not only bring

the children safely to school, but also take an interest in their everyday lives. We are

very lucky to have them!

This term we have a science focus, based around Planet Earth and Beyond. The junior

and middle classrooms are exploring the natural world around them and how it helps

to explain the past. They will be looking at fossils, landforms and of course, dinosaurs!

The senior students will be exploring what we know about space, how scientist’s ideas

are always changing and how we could use this information in the future to ensure

human survival. I have all fingers and toes crossed that your dinner tables will have an

extra special buzz as the students talk about what they learned that day or what

questions they came up with/found out answers to.

So we will be off to a busy start….but can’t wait!

JAMMIES FOR JUNE 2017

If anyone is interested in donating pyjamas for this cause, as advertised on Destination Weber, there will be a pickup from Weber School. If you are willing and able, please could you drop them off to us by next Monday at the latest.Bulk sizes required are 1yr - 9y but right up to 18yrs old. http://www.outandaboutwithkids.co.nz/

LUNCHTIME CHANGE/SPARE CHANGE All student will be practising cross-country running so need to bring a spare

change of clothes each day.

If anyone wants to play on the field at lunchtime or grassed areas, they need a

spare change in order to do so.

Rugby is fast making a comeback, and so any children who want to play tackle

during school time must have a mouth-guard to play.

CHANGES TO BUS TRANSPORTATION Please let us know of any changes to buses, particularly for sports practises and

if your child will be picked up by someone else. We cannot let students tell us

what they think they are doing, so go off parent information only. Please send a

note to school, email or let us know of ongoing changes so we can get students

to the right bus on time. Thanks in advance.

FUNDRAISER An enormous thank you to all those who contributed baking,

helped on the day and made donations for last week’s

fundraiser. This was a big undertaking and I must make a

special mention of all the work Sharyn Kjestrup did leading this,

and for walking our new committee members through the

experience. We will update you once we have sorted all

expenses etc. Plates/containers are in the hall to be picked

up….and THANK YOU again to all those who helped and

contributed.

HOUSE INFORMATION Congratulations to Motea House who were the term one winners overall. A

strong showing at the swimming sports has kept them in in the lead. Cross

country will allow other houses to begin building points, and of course we are

always looking for good behaviour and Weber Values to award points for.

Our end of term mufti day raised $95.50 for the house captain fund, so thank

you for your support. Our house captains will be attending the Young Leader’s

Day in two weeks, and we hope it will be a chance for them to think about

the leadership skills that they are developing, and be inspired to be the ‘best

that they can be’ as role models at Weber School.
