It has been an honor to serve the district for the past twenty-nine years as a seventh grade math teacher, an associate middle school principal, and both a pri- mary/elementary school principal. I have also enjoyed coaching freshman football, middle school track, and middle school wrestling. It has been an incredible journey and I’m so proud of the accomplish- ments our Lodi community has achieved. We are blessed to live in a community which supports education. It has always made my job easier when I make phone calls home to supportive parents and making sure we are all on the same team to ensure student success. I have tried to take my “Math is Fun” attitude along with me into my administrative role. Positive relationships plays a key role in any job, but it is essential when you are working in education. If you can build those strong relationships with students and families, anything is possible. “Attitude is Everything” was the sign which hung in my math classroom. If you put your mind to a task in a positive way, it’s incredi- ble what you can accomplish. I would like to share one story before I close. I was in the cafeteria the other day and a first grader said to me, “Mr. Hendrickson, why is your hair that color? Did you color it? Are you old? Or did you get struck by lightning?” I pondered my answer and then said, “I guess I’m just getting old.” “Oh no,” the student said. I wish I would have said, “I got struck by lightning” to see how the student would have responded. I received a note from a student at the beginning of the school year which said, “I hope you have a good year Mr. Happy!” Well, I have had a great year and it’s thanks to all positive students, staff, and the Lodi community for their support. Thank you for supporting me along the way and keep supporting education in our community. Take care and continue to show your Lodi Pride! Thank you for giving us amazing children to work with, Lyle Hendrickson

If you haven’t heard the news by now, I would like to let you know that I’m retiring from the School District of Lodi as of June 30, 2018. It has been an honor to serve the district for the past twenty-nine years as a seventh grade math teacher, an associate middle school principal, and both a pri-mary/elementary school principal. I have also enjoyed coaching freshman football, middle school track, and middle school wrestling.

It has been an incredible journey and I’m so proud of the accomplish-ments our Lodi community has achieved.

If you put your mind to a task in a positive way, it’s incredi-ble what you can accomplish.

Karla Schultz Retires from LES! Karla Schultz, our library educational assistant is also retiring after thirty-six years of service to the district. She began her journey with the school district being hired in the special education department working with speech & language and students needing extra support. She has worked at every level in the district, but has been at Lodi Elementary School since the 1999-2000 school year. She has been our library educational assistant ever since. Karla is always ready to take on a challenge at school whether it is to run a RtI group for enrichment or supervise recess duty.

Karla has been an invaluable asset to our Library Media Program at the Elementary School. Her knowledge of knowing the books available, as well as being able to recommend books to students and staff is excellent. So far this year, just since we incorporated our new Destiny Library software in November, we have had 14,351 books checked out! That is a lot of hands on books not to mention the physical work of re-shelving all of them so others can find the books again! Thank you Karla for always keeping our library in order and helping numerous volunteers to “learn the ropes” on shelving the massive amount of books that are read each week. Her expertise in understanding the library organization and management will be hard to replace. Best of luck on your retirement and enjoy your time with your family and travels.

Mindful Schools-Parent Education Night

May 14 6:30-8pm at Lodi High School LGI (large group instruction room)

Mindfulness and the relevance of practicing mindfulness in schools is getting a lot of research and media attention right now...and for good reason. Research shows that mindful teaching and teaching children mindfulness cultivates an environment for learning that supports teacher-student relationships, social-emotional control and learning, self-regulation, focus and academic success. Developing mindful awareness helps us cultivate deep states of ease, peace,

compassion and attunement, and helps us identify stressors and our reactions to them, ultimately helping us navigate a better response to the growing

demands and expectations we experience in our life. This has become more important and relevant in our fast paced, often overscheduled, technology driven, high pressure society of doing vs. being. Lodi school district offers

mindfulness training to staff and has been implementing practices with students. Come and learn what mindfulness is and how it is being taught and implemented into our school culture. You will get the opportunity to practice

for yourself and will be introduced to some ways that you can practice at home with your children.

This session will be led by Rebecca Eller, Physical Therapist and Mindfulness

Specialist in our district.
