Greene King is the country’s leading pub retailer and brewer, running over 2,000 managed and tenanted pubs, restaurants and hotels and brewing award-winning ales for more than 200 years.
Greene King Local Pubs are at the heart of communities across England and Wales and are a great place to catch up with friends or watch football, or even treat the family to an indulgent Sunday roast.
The challenge
Leading pub designers Tibbatts Abel were asked to get involved
in a project to uplift a range of Greene King Local Pubs,
breathing new life into the buildings in order to engage with a
wider audience.
Designer Adam Tibbatts said: “The pubs were small sites in local
environments, renowned for selling cask ales.
“Our job was to help revitalise these public houses and while
enjoying a common theme between them, every one also
needs to look and feel independent in its design.”

The solution
Tibbatts had a long working history with Chantelle Lighting and
Adam knew they would be the perfect company to assist in this
project.
He said: “We have a good working relationship with Chantelle,
and we know that the lighting we get from them is innovative, top
quality and long lasting.
“Not only that, Chantelle boasts a range of artisan craftsmen and
women who hand craft the lighting in Lancashire, which I felt was
important when looking to retain the heritage of our high street
and community pubs across the UK.”
Adam and Chantelle’s Managing Director, Anthony Holly, looked
at each pub in isolation making sure that the design and lighting
chosen refl ected its name, brand and surrounding community.
Anthony said: “Industrial lighting is very much in fashion at the
moment, so to ensure the pubs were right up the minute in terms
of design we decided to run with this theme.
“We chose pieces suited to each individual and which
represented their name or perhaps the heritage of their area,
which worked extremely well.”
The result
Each pub has been brought back to life following a considered
process of restoration and the results are stunning.
Adam said: “The lighting sets the mood for each pub and gives
each one the individuality we were looking for.
We are proud to have played our part in keeping these
community hubs alive and are already working closely with Chantelle Lighting on further projects of this kind.
