PRINCIPAL’S CORNER To all of our veterans we say, THANK YOU!. John 15:13 says “Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends”. We take time to remember all of those that served our country so we can remain free. All have sacrificed, but some sacrificed all! If you see a veteran today, or any day, tell them thanks for serving. Last week we shared that our 7th and 8th grade volleyball team was headed to the Lutheran State Tournament. Well they did a great job and were very successful. They finished 2nd in State. This ended their season with a 23-2 record. Congratulations to our Lady Vikings.

CONGRATULATIONS TO THE 7/8 LADY VIKINGS VOLLEYBALL TEAM Our 7th and 8th grade girls’ volleyball team competed in the LSAM State Volleyball tournament last weekend. They played hard and came home with second place in the Gold bracket! Congratulations to the girls, Alyssa Brockman, Jordan Hinton, Caitlyn Jarzenbeck, Paige Werner, Amy Ceko, Addie Cunningham, Elyse Girard, and Katie Huster, and their coach Mrs. Brenda Huster. Good job, Lady Vikings! GIVING TUESDAY & THE 2ND ANNUAL CLASSROOM CHANGE CHALLENGE This year Giving Tuesday is 11/29 and we are asking you to consider donating to Green Park Lutheran School on this National Day of Giving. There will be a special place to donate on our website via the DONATE tab and of course cash & checks (marked with Giving Tuesday in the memo line) are also welcome. We are also holding our 2nd annual Classroom Change Challenge that day. We are asking students to bring in any spare change on 11/29 and we will have a competition to see which classroom can raise the most change. Last year we raised over $900 for Green Park just in change! NO SCHOOL - NOVEMBER 25 - 27 School will not be in session Wednesday through Friday, November 23-25 for Thanksgiving break. Classes will resume on Monday, November 28. Please mark your calendars. GREEN PARK ELECTION RESULTS On Tuesday, November 8, Green Park held a Mock Election to help students learn about the voting process. The 8th grade class made “polling stations” and held a rally on Thursday, November 3 to present the candidates and explain the election process. The results of the Green Park election were: Donald Trump - 143, Hillary Clinton - 48, and Gary Johnson - 2. IF YOU'RE HAPPY & YOU KNOW IT TELL A FRIEND Did you know word of mouth is the best way for us to share the great news of our school? We're looking for ways to invite more families to our campus through good old fashioned small talk. One of the ways you can help: # ChooseGP Submit a photo of you, your student or family and in three sentences or less share why you chose Green Park. We'll be posting on social media in November in preparation of our "Choosy Moms Choose GPLS" billboard going up late November. Email: [email protected] STUDENTS QUALIFIED FOR DUKE TIP PROGRAM Congratulations to the following students who have qualified for the Duke TIP program. Fourth Grade: Rachel Brown, Ben Faulstich, Chase Hastie, Noah Immekus, Julia Kuschel, Alyssa Pacino, and Jacob Wanamaker; Fifth Grade: Thomas Bugala, Luke Faulstich, Haley Hinton, Lizzie Meyer, Robert Shull, and Joah Tratar; Sixth Grade: Lisa Bartz, Jack Bussen, Silas Francis, Ian Furgeson, Gwyn Guffey, Olivia Rabbitt, and Nathan Roberts. These students scored a 95% or better on a number of subtests from last year’s Stanford 10 achievement tests. They will now be eligible to take tests that higher level students take. Great job, everyone!

FOOD DRIVE SPONSORED BY GREEN PARK We will be collecting non-perishable food items beginning today, November 4, through Friday, November 18. Items should be brought to school and placed in the barrels that will be located throughout the school building. Bags for collecting items were distributed to the children this week. The proceeds will benefit the St. Louis Area Foodbank. Flyers are posted around the school with a list of the top items needed. The flyer is also attached to this Green Sheet.
LUTHERAN SOUTH TO HONOR FIRST RESPONDERS Lutheran High School South invites alumni, parents, family members and our community to join us for a special chapel service on Tuesday, November 22, at 8:00am to give thanks for first responders (police officers, fire fighters, EMT, etc.). Our guest speaker will be Rev. Bill Wrede, who was a first responder and Lutheran Chaplain in New York City at the World Trade Center site on 9/11. Please join us as we recognize first responders and share our appreciation to those who protect and serve us faithfully. BOAR’S HEAD CHRISTMAS FESTIVAL AT PEACE This year marks the 22nd season of the Boar’s Head Christmas Festival at Peace Lutheran Church. We invite you to join us in the celebration of Christ’s birth. The festival will be on Thursday, December 1, at 7:30pm, Friday, December 2, at 7:30pm, Saturday, December 3, at 7:30pm, and Sunday, December 4, at 2:30pm and 6:00pm. Tickets are free, but are required to attend the pageant, and they go quickly. Doors open one hour before each pageant, with pre-service music beginning 30 minutes before each service. A reception follows each service with homemade Christmas cookies, wassail, punch and coffee. FREE tickets (limit six per person) are available on a first come, first serve basis by calling the church office at 892-5610, or stopping in person to 737 Barracksview Road. HEARING AND VISION SCREENING—DECEMBER 9 The Center for Hearing and Speech will be coming to Green Park on Friday, December 9, to perform hearing, middle ear and vision screenings. The cost for screening is $7.00 per child. All charges will be billed to your family TADS account. If you would like to register your child for screening please complete the form attached to the Green Sheet and return to the school office by Wednesday, December 7. SCRIP NEWS The November 4 Scrip Order is coming home today. If you ordered Scrip, please check your child’s backpack for your order. The next Scrip order will be due Friday, December 2 with a delivery date of Friday, December 9. This will be the last Scrip order prior to Christmas, so keep your Christmas gift list in mind.
The most current Scrip Order Form is attached to the Green Sheet e-mail. Please use this form. DO NOT use any forms dated prior to August, 2016. Old forms are outdated and may contain retailers who no longer sell Scrip.

NOVEMBER/DECEMBER CHAPEL OFFERINGS TO BENEFIT LUTHERANS FOR LIFE Chapel offerings for November and December will be going to help two different organizations: The Pregnancy Help Center and Lutherans for Life. Students will be given baby bottles to help them save money for the offerings. Weekly offerings can also be given. The Help Center provides help for moms and dads in need. They provide information on parenting and adoption. Lutherans for Life assists laypersons and church professionals in educating people about life issues. They encourage our churches to integrate these issues into their worship and education classes. BABY BOTTLES TO BENEFIT PREGNANCY HELP CENTER This week students were each given a plastic baby bottle to fill with change to benefit the Pregnancy Help Center. The baby bottles will be due back by December 1. We appreciate any donation you can give. LUTHERAN SOUTH PRESENTS “ALL IN THE TIMING” Lutheran South is proud to present "All in the Timing" on November 11 and 12 at 7:00 p.m. A play by David Ives that is a series of short one-acts that explore love, relationships, and finding your place in the world. The stories range from depicting a dinner date, to three monkeys trying to recreate Hamlet. Admission is $5 for students and $6 for adults. Please come join us! METRO HONORS BAND SELECTION Congratulations to 8th grader Joshua Stroups (Trumpet) for his recent selection to participate in the Metro 8 District Honors Band! We also congratulate Emma Hopfer (First Chair Oboe), 2014 Green Park Alum and current LHSS junior for her selection to this group as well. Students from area private and public schools auditioned to be part of this group. This group of gifted artists are scheduled to rehearse together and perform in concert on Sunday, November 20, at the Performing Arts Center at Chaminade College Prep. HONORS FOR FORMER GREEN PARK SOCCER PLAYERS The Lutheran South boys' Soccer team capped off a terrific season, taking 3rd place in State with a 1-1 tie in their final game against O'Hara last Saturday. Eight players were named to the 2016 All District Team, two of these players are Green Park graduates: Kenny Paetow and Jacob Reis. Congratulations to these outstanding players! CHRIST MEMORIAL GIRLFRIENDS RETREAT Mark your calendars for Friday, January 27, and Saturday, January 28, 2017. Christ Memorial will be hosting a Girlfriends Retreat for high school age on up.
