Congressional Statement of Purpose

“to protect and preserve the natural, scenic, recreational, and cultural resources of Little River Canyon area in DeKalb and

Cherokee Counties, Alabama, and to provide for the protection and public enjoyment of those resources there is

established Little River Canyon National Preserve.”

Little River Canyon has over 100 rare species.

Three are endangered, two are threatened, not including the Bald Eagle, and

about 18 are endemic, living

only in this area.
