■ Green lipped mussel extract can effectively treatpain and increase mobility in patients withosteoarthritis (OA), according to research from HongKong. In a double-blind clinical trial, 80 patients withknee OA were randomised to receive the musselextract [Lyprinol] or placebo for 6 months. In patientsreceiving green lipped mussel extract, there was agreater improvement in the perception of pain asmeasured by a visual analog scale and in the physicalfunction and psychological status domains of theChine version of the Arthritis Impact MeasurementScale-2 short form, compared with controls, fromweek 4 of treatment.Lyprinol(Rm).
