Green Lane Primary’s Curriculum

What does my child learn in

class?

A couple of years ago, the teachers decided that we needed to make some changes to the curriculum (the lessons children are taught).

We looked at what worked well (enablers) and what stopped learning from happening (blockers).

We wanted to make it:

•Relevant

•Address issues we had identified

Green Lane Primary’s Curriculum

The Green list

What other specific areas do we want to cover to individualise the curriculum for our children’s needs?Awareness of other cultures – Pakistani, Bangladeshi – differences, British, E. European, African, Caribbean etc.Caring for each otherBetter working relationships between boys and girlsSpeaking appropriately in different situations – assemblies, full sentences, when adults ask a question, greetings.Using local area more & local people – interviews, art etc.Responsibility – for each other, jobs, speaking up for others, looking after property that isn’t my own.

Green Lane Primary’s Curriculum

Blockers Things that stop children

learning

Blockers1. Boring lessons 2. Boring teachers 3. Attention span too short4. Lack of parental interest 5. Their behaviour or that of those around them 7. English language skills – some don’t have the examples that other’s might have nationally8. Lack of outside experiences 9. Poor attendance 10. Criticism that is given in a ‘destructive’ way.

Boredom, Low self esteem, Lack of motivation, Fitting in with 'reputation', limited expectations…

Blockers and enablers
