Report PRELUDE
“GREEN ENERGY VIRUMBUVOM 2012” throughout the state a mega mass
awareness campaign on Renewable Energy was organized in 1045 Schools all over
the state and around 30 schools in Coimbatore by Tamilnadu Energy
Development Agency in partnership with Rotary International in which around 10
Lakh students participated.
OBJECTIVES
Enlighten the young India on the need for Green Energy. Hence the School
children of the city were chosen.
Encourage the children to take the message to their family, friends & neighbours.
Motivate them to implement the Green energy (TAMILNADU GOVT SOLAR
ENERGY- POLICY 2012) concepts & measures at their homes and convert a green
energy Home.
Transform Coimbatore as a Green Energy CITY
The TEDA chairman had sent a request letter to the Education Secretary for
sustaining this campaign by instructing the Director of School Education and all
the Chief Educational Officers all over the state to provide support to Rotary Clubs
for the successful and smooth completion of this project. (Dictionary &

COIMBATORE DISTRICT LAUNCH PROGRAM
“GREEN ENERGY VIRUMBUVOM 2012” was launched in Coimbatore City on
Thursday 13.12.2012, 3.00pm at ‘Essorpee Rotary Midtown Hall’, Devanga Higher
Secondary School, Coimbatore, by Rotary Clubs of Coimbatore led by Rotary Club
of Coimbatore Midtown.
We invited teachers from various Schools (VI, VII, VIII, IX AND XI class teachers)
During the programme, training had been given to the teachers about “GREEN
ENERGY” and how to conduct competitions and we have requested the teachers
to prepare some charts with the above title” “GREEN ENERGY VIRUMBUVOM
2012” and paste it in the notice boards and class rooms. Special CD’s created and
distributed to all teachers. The CD contains the Audio and Video presentation of
Green Energy to create the awareness of the Green Energy among the students
through teachers.
The guest of Honor of the function were Er.A.D.Thirumoorthy Superintending
Engineer(Retd),TANGEDCO,Dr.P.Venkatachalam Professor, Department of Bio
Energy, TNAU and Rtn.Mohan Kumar Assistant Governor, R.I.Dist 3201.
Er.A.D.Thirumoorthy Superintending Engineer(Retd),TANGEDCO delivered the
speech about the usage of solar energy and how it makes a big impact on lives
today. Dr.P.Venkatachalam Professor, Department of Bio Energy, TNAU addressed
on bioenergy and he said that the world has been striving to make efficient use of
bio-diesel.
At the end of the function Rtn.S.Balakrishnan, Zonal Chairman-Energy
Conservation,R.I.Dist 3201 was felicitated in the closing day of the Coimbatore
launch function.
School level competition
The school level competition was organized in 30 schools in and around
Coimbatore. The winner of the first level competition raise to the next level of the
competition. The list of winners had been announced by their schools. The school
level competition was held in their schools. Judges of the competition were the
School principal and the teachers of individual schools.
Revenue district level competition
The winners of the school level competition compete with other school students
within the corresponding district. The revenue district level competition was held
at Sri Jayendra Saraswathi Matric Hr. Sec, CBE. The Chief guest and judges of this
event were the teachers and the Rotarians.
Rotary District level
The winners of the Revenue district level competition compete with other
District school students were held on 1.2.2013 at Tirupur.
The chief guests of this function were Rtn.P. Jeganathan Governor RI –Dist.3000,
Rtn S.Kasthuri rengan Rotary District Coordinator RI-Dist 3002 and
Rtn.S.Balakrishnan, Zonal Coordinator Energy Conservation RI Dist.3201. Rtn.P.
Jeganathan, Governor RI –Dist.3000 gave the welcome address. Rtn. M.
Thiyagarajan Rotary Zonal Coordinator,RI Dist.3002 felicitated the students and
organizers and he delivered an excellent speech.
At the end of the day the prizes were distributed to the students by the chief
guest.
State level -FINALS
This is the final level of the competition the winners of various schools all over
state compete with each other in the final round.
The chief guest of this competition were Honorable Mr.R.Viswanathan Minister
For Electricity and Excise, Govt of Tamilnadu and Honarable Thiru N.R.Sivapathy,
Minister for School Education, Sports Govt. of Tamilnadu , Tmt.Jaya, Mayor,
Trichy, Tmt.Jayashree Muralidaran IAS, District Collector, Trichy, Rtn.Y.Kumanan,
District Governor, RI Dist and Rtn P.Jeganathan Governor, RI Dist and Sudeep Jain
IAS, Chairman & Managing Director of Tamilnadu Energy Development Agency,
Chennai showed their benign presence on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, S.Karunakaran,CM TEDA delivered the welcome
address and they presented the bouquets to VIPs. Rtn.P.Jeganathan Governor,RI
Dist 3000 delivered his valuable speech about the function and he said that such
events provided a great learning opportunity for the students. The winner of the
competition was awarded by Honorable Mr.R.Viswanathan, Minister For
Electricity and Excise. Rtn.C.Palaniselvan gave the vote of thanks. He delivered the
speech to make the audience realize the importance and usage of solar energy. At
the end of the day the prizes were distributed to the winners of various schools.
The winners were rewarded for their talents with special prizes given by our chief
guest.
PARTICIPATION:
We have covered nearly 30 schools in Coimbatore. The program focused on
conducting competitions in 4 levels viz.
School level, Revenue district level, District level and State level.
The contestants of a competition get an opportunity to try their expertise on the
following category.
Category I – Drawing and Elocution:
The students get one hour to showcase their creativity in a drawing.
The contestants would be given the theme for the competition titled as “SOLAR
ENERGY”.
Participants use a variety of mediums, including charcoal, crayon, pencil
and paint, to express the theme.
Category II _ Essay writing and Elocution
The students get one hour to showcase their creativity in a writing skill.
The judges for this event were Teacher and a Rotarian for each event.
The school level competitions completed by the end of December, after they have
conducted Revenue District level competitions in the first week of January 2013.
The winners of each level were announced at the end of each level of the
competition. The winners of each level would rise to the next level of the
competition. During the competition refreshment were given to the participants
by providing biscuits and coffee.
Rotary Clubs of Coimbatore visited nearly 30 schools and the winner of each
event has been awarded with Oxford Essential Dictionary and Runner has been
awarded with Oxford mini Dictionary and Merit and the Participation certificate
was also issued for those who participated.
Finalist of each level was announced at the end of day and the lists of winners
were announced by judges and Rotarians. The winner of final level, that is state
level student received ‘Electric motor Bicycle’ as special price by the chief guest.
Throughout the competition, students implemented their creativity and
knowledge in the corresponding field.
The students participated with great zeal depicting their enormous talent. We
were genuinely impressed with how students have artistically interpreted our
theme of SOLAR ENERGY.

VALEDICTORY
At the end of the TEDA project function. The school level competition raised
to the top revenue district level and state level had ended on 31st
march 2013 .
The topic selected for class VI-VIII was “SOLAR ENERGY”. All the students eagerly
participated in the competition.
Among the 1045 schools all over the state, a student, Shivani J.VIII Std ‘C’
from SBOA Matriculation and higher secondary school ,Coimbatore
secured 1st
price(Electric Scooter) in the category of Drawing. Honorable
Mr.R.Viswanathan Minister For Electricity and Excise, Govt of Tamilnadu and
Honarable Thiru N.R.Sivapathy Minister for School Education,Sports Govt of

schools from all over Tamilnadu secured prices for different categories.
A program intended to support its district has been benefited by solar energy.
