SCENE 1

ALL STAGE LIGHTS OFF, LIGHT ON SIDE ON STORY TELLERS

STORYTELLER STELLA: Come with me now and let’s take a peek at an old story that you thought you already knew. But I’m sure there are some things that you’ll be surprised to hear. It may change some things for you – like Who you are celebrating this Christmas and Who rules and reigns in your life. (Music begins) CD 8

STORYTELLER STEVEN: It’s Bethlehem 2,000 years ago and a Child has been born. His name is Jesus. Most people were thrilled to hear the news, but some weren’t so thrilled. One of them was a king. His name was Herod.

Bring Them to Me

(Storyteller Stella, Choir, Herod, and Sherlock)

STORYTELLER STELLA SOLO:

Step back in time two thousand years,

You’ll be surprised by what you hear;

STORYTELLER AND CHOIR:

Herod is reigning and he is complaining,

He’s angry as angry can be.

So let’s step back in history, come with me!

HEROD:

I am Herod the ruler, need I say anymore? I’m the king!

CHOIR:

A fact you can’t ignore.

HEROD:

The nerve of those wise men to stand in my court

And ask me where that Baby would be born.

They followed a star on their journey;

They thought a star would lead to their king?

Ha ha! How dare they would stand in my presence; Someone go find them for me!

Page 9: greatplainskids.yolasite.comgreatplainskids.yolasite.com/resources/A Rockin’ Royal …  · Web viewspeaking parts, acts and solo. Shepherd 2 Hosea. played by . Breckin: speaking

CHOIR:

Herod calm down and count to ten,

Herod slow down stop jumping ahead;

There’s really no reason, Your majesty,

Listen, those wise men could not hurt a flea.

HEROD:

But they’ve got something up their sleeve,

Bring them to me!

I’ll find those three wise men, they’ll be trembling with fear

I am king! I thought I made that clear!

CHOIR:

But Herod, poor Herod was raging mad for sure.

His royal highness was so insecure.

HEROD:

I told them to return to me, And that was my word, my decree.

I told them I wanted to worship.

CHOIR:

But we know he’s lying through his teeth.

Page 10: greatplainskids.yolasite.comgreatplainskids.yolasite.com/resources/A Rockin’ Royal …  · Web viewspeaking parts, acts and solo. Shepherd 2 Hosea. played by . Breckin: speaking

CHOIR:

Herod calm down and count to ten,

Herod slow down, stop jumping ahead;

There’s really no reason, Your majesty, listen

Those wise men could not hurt a flea.

HEROD:

But they’re acting suspiciously, bring them to me!

SHERLOCK: CHOIR:

Shirley Sherlock is my name, I’m (She's) from the FBI.

SHERLOCK:

One day Herod summoned me,

SHERLOCK and HEROD:

“Sherlock, find those guys!”

SHERLOCK:

Those wise men don’t seem very wise to disobey a king;

I for one will do my best to please his majesty.

Page 11: greatplainskids.yolasite.comgreatplainskids.yolasite.com/resources/A Rockin’ Royal …  · Web viewspeaking parts, acts and solo. Shepherd 2 Hosea. played by . Breckin: speaking

HEROD:

Bring them to me!

CHOIR:

Herod calm down and count to ten,

Herod slow down, stop jumping ahead;

There’s really no reason,

Your majesty, listen.

Those wise men could not hurt a flea.

HEROD:

I don’t trust me who travel in threes, bring them to me!

SHERLOCK:

Perhaps I was put on the earth for such a time as this,

I could become a CEO of Herod’s offices;

I’ll go get those wise men, bring them to his majesty,

I’ll be Herod’s right man, just you wait and see!

Herod, I’m on it, I’ll solve this case. (CHOIR, too)

Herod, I’ll find them, no time to waste. (CHOIR, too)

CHOIR:

There’s really no reason, your majesty, listen

SHERLOCK and CHOIR:

Those wise men won’t change history.

SHERLOCK and HEROD:

Unless the Baby could actually be the King of kings!

HEROD:

Bring them to me!

 Scene 2

Storyteller Stella: See, I told you King Herod was mad.

Sherlock: (to the audience) But not mad at me. Herod called ME to get to the bottom of this mystery and find out some information on this Baby and see why those wise men didn’t come back like he ordered them to do. See, I’m Sherlock, and this is my assistant Wendy Watson. I am the chief investigator for (look both ways carefully before he says the words) the FBI.

Kids: Ssshhhhhhhhhhhh……….

Watson: That’s “From Bethlehem Investigations.” Yes, Judea’s finest.

Sherlock: Never lost a case and I don’t plan to lose this one. So, being the investigator I was trained to be, I did two obvious things: (music begins CD17) I went and got a donut (delivered by Donut Man) and headed straight over to the Bethlehem Public Library….did a little snooping around.

SONG 3: Take a Look Inside

Stella the Storyteller Solo:

Sherlock’s off to the library,

He’ll research the Baby’s ancestry;

Take a look at genealogy,

CHOIR:

He’ll uncover His family tree.

SHERLOCK:

He couldn’t be of royalty if I can be so bold,

ADD CHOIR:

Unless He fulfilled the prophecy the scriptures had foretold.

CHOIR:

He must search the scriptures line by line,

And investigate what he can find;

Every scroll of ancient history,

SHERLOCK:

I’ll solve this mystery you’ll see.

Page 15: greatplainskids.yolasite.comgreatplainskids.yolasite.com/resources/A Rockin’ Royal …  · Web viewspeaking parts, acts and solo. Shepherd 2 Hosea. played by . Breckin: speaking

CHOIR:

Take a look inside in God’s Holy Word.

Look at the facts and not what you’ve heard

If God said it we believe it, investigate and see

There’s proof in the scriptures

He’s heaven’s royalty.

Was He really from the line of David? S &W: (Yes !)

From the tribe of Father Abraham? S&W: (Correct!)

From the mystery of history He’ll find out S: (Wow!)

He was really born in Bethlehem. S&W: (Oh, my!)

Isaiah called Him a Mighty God, S&W: (Mighty God!)

He wrote He was the Prince of Peace; S&W: (Prince of Peace!)

Everlasting Father, Emmanuel! S&W: (Everlasting Father, Emmanel!)

That’s a King to me. S&W: (Wait a minute!) 2nd Time: S&W: (That’s a King to me!)

(REPEAT with SHERLOCK & WATSON COMMENTS)

Narration begins: STORYTELLER STEVEN: This is the first time Sherlock thought he might be in just a little bit of trouble.

SHERLOCK: What have I gotten myself into?

WATSON: First rule of investigation: Find a source “in the know.” And we found one, but this one seems to be the Holy Scripture!

SHERLOCK: So I ran a little background on this Baby and found out that He might be the King of the Jews! I may be in over my head!

Storyteller Stella: So Sherlock was afraid that…

Sherlock: (to storyteller) I’m afraid of NOTHING!

Storyteller Steven: So Sherlock and Watson thought…..

Sherlock/Watson: We don’t THINK, We KNOW!!!

Storytellers: (Steven and Stella say frustrated) OK, OK…..

Storyteller Stella: so Sherlock and Watson KNOW that….

SHER/STOR/WAT: Herod’s NOT going to like this.

Sherlock/Watson: (To Librarian) Excuse me, miss.

Librarian: Shhhhhh! Lower your voices!

Sherlock/Watson: (Trying to make their voices sound lower) Excuse me, miss.

Librarian: Not lower, I mean quieter. This IS a library.

Sherlock: I’m Sherlock and I have huge case.

Librarian: A huge case of what? The measles? The flu? As loud as you’re speaking I wish it was laryngitis!

Sherlock: I mean we’re on a case! (Sherlock and Watson look both ways)

Sherlock/Watson: for the FBI!

Librarian: (loudly) FBI??????

Sher/Wat/kids: Now you’re shushing ME?

Page 19: greatplainskids.yolasite.comgreatplainskids.yolasite.com/resources/A Rockin’ Royal …  · Web viewspeaking parts, acts and solo. Shepherd 2 Hosea. played by . Breckin: speaking

Librarian: The big guy?

Watson: You know, the main most man in town, the sassy sovereign…

Librarian: Who?

Sher/Wat/Kids: King Herod!!!!

Librarian: Oh… right, right, right. So, what can I do for his Royal Craziness?

Sherlock: Well, I’m investigating the birth of a Child.

Watson: One that took place here in Bethlehem.

Librarian: Which one? There are a lot of children born in Bethlehem.

Watson: Yes, but this was a Child that was supposed to be the King of the Jews.

Librarian: Oh yeah, I remember that. There was an article in the Bethlehem Star a couple years ago about that. Why don’t we step over to the computer lab and search for it?

Sherlock: (loudly) OK! Now we’re talking!

Librarian: Shhhhhhh. Lower!

Sherlock: (whispers lower voice) OK

Librarian: OK, here’s the article.

Sherlock: (reading from the article) And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby keeping watch over their flocks at night.

Watson: Wow! Can you send me this article?

Librarian: Of course: you want me to e-mail and fax it, too?

Sherlock: Just the fax ma’am.

Watson: Hey, how DID the shepherds find out about this Child?

Librarian: (English accent) Elementary, my dear Watson.

Scene 5

Storyteller Stella: Now you do realize that I’m no FBI agent, but it’s quite clear that Sherlock and Watson are starting to perspire a bit.

Storyteller Steven: Do you think right now they are wondering…….

Sherlock/Watson: We never wonder!

Storyteller Steven: Then what are you doing?

Sherlock: I’m……. I’m………

Watson: We’re pondering……

Storyteller Stella: Pondering what?

Sherlock/Watson: Why did we ever take this case!

Kids: Herod ordered you!

Sherlock: I KNOW!

Watson: I KNOW!

Librarian: Shhhhhhhh! Lower!

Storyteller Steven: (in best bass voice) Oooo…….someone’s getting (stops bass voice, realizing it’s silly, clears throat) I mean someone’s getting a little testy don’t you think? Let’s listen as Sherlock and Watson go over their evidence….

Sherlock: My background check proves that the Baby has the royal bloodline of the King of the Jews.

Kids: Check!

Watson: And the shepherds were actual eyewitnesses of the child’s birth in Bethlehem.

Kids: Check!

Librarian: And the angels confirmed that the little Baby boy was sent from heaven’s throne and was indeed…

Everyone: The Savior of the world!

Sherlock: Check! Oh boy…..

Watson: Herod’s not gonna like this….

Sherlock: I AM in trouble.

Storyteller Stella: Poor Sherlock and Watson. You can just tell that their nerves are getting frazzled.

Storyteller Steven: They know that the “good news” of this baby’s birth was going to be “Bad news” for Herod to hear. They think…

Sherlock/Watson: KNOW!

Storyteller Stella: They know….

Sherlock/Watson: It’s time to find those kings!

Librarian: Why don’t you just Google “wise men?”

Sherlock: (Looking at the computer) Nothing. It just showed a song.

Kids: Look at the words!

Sherlock: The words! Of course. Glad I thought of it! Here Watson, you read….

Watson: “We three kings of Orient are, bearing gifts, we travel so far.”

Sherlock: Hey I wonder what gifts they brought the Baby?

Wise Man 1 Christian: Gold!

Wise Man 2 MattL: Frankincense!

Wise Man 3 Eli: Myrrh!

Sherlock: Really? Sure doesn’t sound like gifts for a baby. You’d think they’d at least bring a pacifier.

Wise Man 1 Christian: Well, for THIS Baby, there are the perfect gifts.

Wise Man 2MattL: For a Baby who was born the King of kings!

Page 28: greatplainskids.yolasite.comgreatplainskids.yolasite.com/resources/A Rockin’ Royal …  · Web viewspeaking parts, acts and solo. Shepherd 2 Hosea. played by . Breckin: speaking

Sherlock: Well why didn’t you three return and tell Herod where he was?

Wise Man 3 Eli: Really…… Are you asking for real?

Sherlock: Yes, for real! If you three guys had returned like you said you would, we wouldn’t be in this awful position.

Watson: Yeah, Herod wants to worship the Baby….

Sherlock: He said so…..

Wise Man 2 MattL: He wasn’t the worshiping type, if you know what I mean!

Wise Man 1 Christian: Clearly, he wasn’t.

Storyteller Steven: Ladies and gentlemen, I think we can all agree that these were three very wise men. And even today, we would all be wise to follow their example.

CD 37 SONG 6:  A Wise Man’s Life for Me!

CHOIR: I will be, just you wait and see- a wise man’s life for me.

Found the King, He’s my everything – A wise man’s life for me.

I’m a truth seeker, I’m a believer, I want to see;

I’m a follower, I’m a worshiper, I said a wise man’s life for me.

I’ll be filled with joy and I will rejoice,

I’ll bow before my King;

Lord, I’ll live for You, for I trust in You –

A wise man’s life for me.

Librarian Solo: - MIKE

They traveled from afar, led by a shining star,

They found the Child, the King of kings.

Choir:

And even still today Your light will guide the way,

To You, my Lord, the King of kings.

I’m a truth seeker, I’m a believer, I want the world to see;

I’m a follower, I’m a worshiper, I said a wise man’s life for me.

Librarian SOLO: The wisest thing that you or I could ever do is to worship God in Spirit and truth.

CHOIR: I said the wisest thing that you or I could ever do is to worship God in Spirit and truth.

Librarian Solo:

They left a difff’rent way, they’d never be the same,

For they had met the King of kings.

Choir:

And I won’t be the same, my life’s forever changed,

I too have met the King of kings.

I’ll be filled with joy and I will rejoice,

I’ll bow before my King;

Lord, I’ll live for You, for I trust in You –

A wise man’s life for me.

I will be, just you wait and see –

A wise man’s life for me.

Found the King, He’s my everything –

Scene 6

Watson: Is it hot in here or is it just me?

Sherlock: My heart’s pounding out of my chest! My pulse is racing and I’m feeling very dizzy. (Fans herself)

Librarian: Shh! Now calm down. Just breathe! I know you’re under a lot of pressure. Sherlock, Watson, I think I know someone you should talk to.

Watson: Yea. Who?

Sherlock: Dr. Phil?

Watson: Nancy Grace?

Librarian: No silly, it’s my cousin Vinny. You see, he and his wife run a little in on the opposite side of town and well… it’s the inn where the Baby was born. Well, not actually in the inn, but in their stable.

Sherlock: What?

Watson: Why didn’t you tell us this sooner?

Librarian: Well… it’s because all Vinny ever says is, “Well, if I knew then what I know now.” And I never understood what he meant until… well, until.. now. After seeing all the evidence it makes sense.

Sherlock: Wait a minute, don’t jump to conclusions!

Watson: How do we get in touch with this Vinny. Time’s running out.

Sherlock: His royal meanness is probably blowing his stack right now and I’m going to be toast!

Storyteller Steven: So, you’ll notice then that Sherlock and the Librarian have become (music begins) partners in crime solving.

Storyteller Stella: Their next search will be for Cousin Vinny, the innkeeper, and his wife. Their story will touch Sherlock and Watson in a personal way.

SONG 7: If I Knew Then

ONLY LIGHT to SIDE OF STABLE

INNKEEPER’S WIFE: If I knew then what I know now,

Things would be diff’rent some how;

I’d gladly offer them the best that I could give,

BOTH INKEEPERS: If only I knew then what I know now.

VINNY: If I knew then what I know now,

Before His manger bed I’d bow;

Just like the shepherds filled with wonder at this sight,

BOTH INKEEPERS: The miracle of heaven born that night.

CHOIR: Whoever thought that a manger stall

Would cradle the King and the Lord of all;

And who would have thought on that wondrous night,

Heaven would send us a holy Light.

Now we know more than they did then

STORYTELLERS: We know more than they did then,

CHOIR: About the Child of Bethlehem;

STORYTELLERS: About the Child of Bethlehem.

CHOIR: He is my Savior and I’ll worship Him alone,

I choose for Him to make my heart His home.

Now we know more than they did then,

SMALL GROUP: We know more than they did then,

CHOIR: One day our Lord will come again;

SMALL GROUP: One day our Lord will come again.

Not as a Baby in a bed of hay and straw,

But as the Mighty King and Lord of all.

 LIGHTS ON IN STABLE

MIKE IN STABLE

(Spoken parts):

CHILD 1 - Morgan: And she gave birth to her firstborn, a Son. She wrapped Him in cloth And placed Him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.

CHILD 2 – Christian: There were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks by night. And an angel of the Lord appeared to them.

CHILD 3 - Kenzie: “Do not be afraid, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all People.

CHILD 4 – Abby L: Today in the town of David, a Savior has been born.

ALL: He is Christ, the Lord!”

CHOIR: Who would have thought He would change my heart,

Forgive all my sin, make a brand new start;

And who would have thought that a lowly birth,

One day would reign over all the earth?

STORYTELLER STEVEN: They studied the prophecies in the Holy Scriptures. They reviewed the first-hand stories of the shepherds and the innkeeper. The angels’ announcement amazed them and they marveled at the wisdom of the wise men.

You worship Christ alone.

So look beyond the world that you see,

You have a higher calling to a higher King!
