Great Lessons from Job

I. Satan is relentless.

• A. Job 1:7 “And the Lord said to Satan, ‘From where do you come?’ So Satan answered the Lord and said, ‘From going to and fro on the earth, and from walking back and forth on it.’”

• B. 1 Peter 5:8 “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.”

• C. 2 Corinthians 2:11 “Lest Satan should take advantage of us; for we are not ignorant of his devices.”

II. Human philosophy falls short.

• A. Job 16:2-3 “I have heard many such things; Miserable comforters are you all! Shall words of wind have an end? Or what provokes you that you answer?”

• B. 1 Corinthians 2:12-13 “Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might know the things that have been freely given to us by God. These things we speak not in words which man’s wisdom teaches but which the Holy Spirit teaches, comparing spiritual things with spiritual.”

II. Human philosophy falls short.

• C. Jeremiah 10:23 “O Lord, I know the way of man is not in himself; It is not in man who walks to direct his own steps.”

• D. 2 Corinthians 10:5 “Casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ.”

III. Total trust belongs to God.

• A. Job 42:1-6• B. John 6:68 “But Simon Peter answered Him,

‘Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life.’”

• C. Proverbs 3:5-7 “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths. Do not be wise in your own eyes; Fear the Lord and depart from evil.”

III. Total trust belongs to God.

• D. Psalm 33:8-12 “Let the earth fear the Lord; Let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of Him. For He spoke, and it was done; He commanded, and it stood fast. The Lord brings the counsel of the nations to nothing; He makes the plans of the peoples of no effect. The counsel of the Lord stands forever, The plans of His heart to all generations. Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord, The people He has chosen as His own inheritance.”
