“One of my early teachers told me that playing in a string quartet is one of the most powerful and wonderful things you can do,” recalled Wisconsin native Megan Karls recently. “At my very first Great Falls concert last year I was nervous, but when the audience began hooting and hollering after the first movement, I knew I was in the right place. I am living my dream!”

One of nine ensemble members who form the professional core of the Symphony, Megan loves being part of this team that collaborates closely to choose repertoire.

“I’m so excited about our Valentine’s concert in 2015. The Mendelssohn quartet is heartbreakingly beautiful and portrays a love so profound it’s hard to believe the composer was just 18 when he wrote it.” Also don’t miss an arrangement of Autumn Leaves by John Gemberling in October and music by Mary’s brother, Jim Papoulis, on Mother’s Day.”

Saturday October 4 2014 Charlie Plays GershwinGREAT FALLS SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA with Charlie Albright, Piano

Charlie’s back! You loved him as our “Phenom at the Fazioli.” This season, he’ll perform George Gershwin’s jazz-inspired Concerto in F.

“Albright is among the most gifted musicians of his generation... An impressive range of differently colored sounds at the keyboard was matched by overwhelming virtuosity ... Albright leapt the most outrageous technical hurdles... with a sense of dangerous self-abandon that was thrilling to hear.” – Washington Post

Sunday December 7 2014 3pm High Plains ChristmasGREAT FALLS SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA and SYMPHONIC CHOIR with Philip Aaberg, Piano

Su and Thad Suits are thrilled to have Phil Aaberg back with us for this holiday concert: “A Phil Aaberg concert is not only unique and eclectic, it’s truly soul satisfying. He is one of the great musical artists of our generation!” You’ll love this master pianist’s take on holiday traditionals mixed with his own compositions like Christmas on the Hi-Line and Shepherds’ Rocking Carol. Welcome the season in Montana style with this fun concert.

Saturday January 17 2015 Dreamers, Visionaries & LeadersGREAT FALLS SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA with Ovidiu Marinescu, Cellist

Opening with a tribute to Martin Luther King and presenting the world premiere of John Harmon’s Crazy Horse, Legendary Hero of the Lakota, this concert reflects on the lives of two minority leaders

who fought for the rights of their people. Composer Harmon and cellist Ovidiu Marinescu are part of this cross-cultural residency planned for the 2015 Martin Luther King holiday.

Saturday November 8 2014 Greatest Tenor HitsGREAT FALLS SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA with Scott Piper, Tenor

“The performance by Scott Piper was brilliant, magnificent, beautiful and perfect! We left the Mansfield Theater with that bittersweet feeling you get when something truly remarkable has just happened – reluctant to let go for fear you may never see or hear it again.” – Carl Rostad and Nancy Luth in a Letter to Editor, Great Falls Tribune

Experience Scott’s gift through his interpretations of a variety of works, from the beloved aria Nessun Dorma to Broadway favorites.

“His pure tenor rocketed upward till it scraped the clouds; all he lacked to be

a celestial messenger was the wings.”– Austin Chronicle

WORLD ARTIST Nadja Salerno-Sonnenberg

“Nadja’s always been known for her edge-of-your-seat performances, brimming with passion and energy…” – Violinist.com

Saturday April 25 2015 Speaking in StringsWORLD ARTIST SERIES CONCERT GREAT FALLS SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA

Called “a breathtakingly daring and original artist” by the Washington Post, violinist Nadja Salerno-Sonnenberg will be showcased in the emotive, dramatic Shostakovich Violin Concerto No. 1. Because Nadja is also known for conducting as she plays, experience the excitement as she leads our orchestra in a string feature. Cascade Quartet violinist Megan Karls is thrilled to have the opportunity to play alongside one of her heroes: “When I saw Nadja in concert with the Chicago Symphony, I could feel her intensity and emotion in my gut!”

“... the famously fiery violinist ... whose mere presence on stage, high-strung and electric, signals that something dramatic and potentially alarming is about to happen.” –Washington Post

DON’T MISS this chance to see one of the world’s finest violinists! We proudly present this concert as part of our Symphony Patron Series or by individual ticket: $47 / $52 / $57 / $100 to support the concert as a patron; available November 2014.

Saturday February 21 2015 A Tribute to Dave BrubeckGREAT FALLS SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA with the Brubeck Brothers Quartet

This dynamic jazz quartet features two sons of the late, great Dave Brubeck: Dan Brubeck (drums) and Chris Brubeck (bass and trombone), alongside Mike DeMicco (guitar), and Chuck Lamb (piano). This tribute concert features many of the elder Brubeck’s trademark and lesser-known tunes, all suffused with the Quartet’s dedication to melody, rhythm, and the extemporaneous spirit of jazz.

“I won’t miss the Brubeck Brothers tribute concert because I not only like Jazz, I LOVE it! I will never forget one of my very first concert experiences hearing Dave Brubeck in Billings. It shaped my love for Jazz that day.” –David Weissman

Saturday March 28 2015 From the Journals of Lewis & ClarkGREAT FALLS SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA and SYMPHONIC CHOIR

Daniel Bukvich used full orchestra, symphonic choir and spoken word to portray one of the greatest adventures in our nation’s history. Hear a lonely oboe portraying the Great Plains, Cruzatte’s fiddle, and a lullaby for Sacagawea’s baby boy. The choir chants the name of the river which was the beckoning highway for the expedition: M-i-s-s-o-u-r-i, M-i-s-s-o-u-r-i.

“I know this piece well. It’s beautiful, exciting and uplifting. The music portrays various aspects of the Lewis and Clark journey. You definitely hear the hardship in the portage section.” – Dugan Coburn, Portage Route Chapter, Lewis & Clark Trail Heritage Foundation
