“Creat ive Departures” is rooted in our love for skateboarding, cul ture, t ravel , ar t and music. I t is inspired by our t ime on the road meet ing new people and exper iencing new ci t ies. “Creat ive Departures” is a combinat ion of global ar t instal lat ions showcasing the Gravis fami ly of ar t ists and athletes, as wel l as a v ideo ser ies that is Gravis’ take on the di f ferent regions we invade; explor ing skate spots, unique art , music, and of course the best places to eat and dr ink.

The Gravis Expedition series draws inspiration from our rich outdoor heritage and brings forth a palette of natural hues, durable materi-als and a refined design aesthetic. This collection of footwear, bags and luggage is a true creative de-parture, blurring the l ines between performance, function and fashion.

yusuke hanai / i l lustrator / graphic designer / f ine art ist

Yusuke Hanai was born in Japan in 1978. At the age of 17 Yusuke gained a new found passion in art af ter discover ing the Grateful Dead album cover artwork of legendary art ist Rick Gri f f in. In an ef fort to capture the spir i t of Rick Gri f f in, Jack Kerouac and the ‘60’s counter-cul ture movement of San Francisco, Yusuke lef t Japan for the United States in 2003 to study i l lustrat ion at the Academy of Art Col lege, San Francisco. Yusuke’s art ist ic breakthrough occurred at the ‘06 Green Room Fest ival in Yokohama Japan when Laguna Beach based Wil Pennartz, owner/curator of The Surf Gal lery was so impressed with Yusuke’s s ign paint ing that he invi ted him to part ic ipate in ‘07 The Happening in New York Ci ty. Expanding his i l lustrat ion and f ine art v is ion beyond his nostalgic roots, Yusuke cont inues to capture the hearts of many people worldwide. His art ist ic works have been exhibi ted in Austral ia, Brazi l , Cal i fornia, Honolulu, London, New York, Par is, and Tokyo. Yusuke is current ly l iv ing in Japan, where he cont inues his art ist ic endeavors as an i l lustrator/ f ine art ist .

The new season of the Cordway Col lect ive cont inues to draw inspirat ion f rom the f ine art of shoemaking. In t rue Cordonnier spir i t , the col lect ion is our pinnacle plat form where premium mater ia ls, progressive sty l ing and hand-craf ted products cal l home. This season we have expanded our of fer ing to include new bag and lug-gage si lhouettes that t ruly br ing our inspirat ions to l i fe.
