Dear wine enthusiast,
I am pleased to introduce you to the very first Grape House wine portfolio. I have per-
sonally tasted and chosen each and every wine that features in this brochure, spending
hours researching winemakers from all over the world and securing wines that are often
difficult to buy because of the fame of their producer.
I have listed a variety of wines at all prices and, no, not just from France, my home coun-
try! Finding a good wine at a relatively moderate price is a true challenge these days. Did
you know that the States of Jersey charge £1.1231 duty per 75cl bottle of wine and how
much would you say freight to Jersey costs ? Well, 50p per bottle is about right. This
alone represents 30% of the cost of a £5 bottle of wine.
The current Euro exchange rate is still well below what it was only a couple of years ago,
making wines from the Euro zone less affordable than in the past and of course we have
seen the introduction of GST last year. Quality comes at a price of course, but I can as-
sure you that all of the Grape House wine selection will give you value and pleasure for
your money.
About The Grape House
Introduction by Katy Lavanant,
Managing Director
Download this brochure at www.theboathousegroup.com
I have been travelling across the vineyards for the last 18 years, which is how long I have
been in the wine business. I lived and worked in Bordeaux for 2 years, this is actually
where my wine career started, having studied wine, I got a job at Château Prieuré lichine
in Margaux and on my days off, I was visiting other Châteaux and tasting their wines. I
lived in Burgundy too and this is possibly the vineyard I am the most passionate about.
The small villages of the Côtes de Beaune and the Côtes de Nuits are home to some of
the worlds true iconic wine gems.
Winemaking techniques have evolved a lot in the last decade resulting in an improvement
in the quality of entry level wines. In the vines, attention to the soils is more important
than ever, viticulturists are conscious of the damages made to the soils due to the exten-
sive use of fertilizers and pesticides in the past and are now using alternative techniques,
some even turning their Domaine to biodynamie and producing wines that are truly or-
ganic.
Outside of Europe, I am finding more and more exceptional wines, I am highly enthusias-
tic about South Africa, which now ranks fourth in the UK wine market share. When
South African wines first appeared in the UK, they were high volume, inexpensive wines,
the country is now recognized as a producer of quality premium wines with distinct re-
gional diversity. The explosion of Sauvignon Blanc in New Zealand resulted in the country
responding by tripling the vineyard plantings in the last 10 years and Pinot Noir is now on
the Sauvignon's heels, but boutique estates still produce stunning examples of both.
The Grape House is part of The Boat House Group and adheres to the same philosophy.
I hope you like the new list,
Katy

Billecart-Salmon, Mareuil sur Ay, Champagne
Winemaker - François Billecart
History
Billecart-Salmon is one of the few remaining Champagne houses to be owned by the original family and
was established in 1818 by Nicolas-Francois Billecart.
Most of Billecart-Salmon's fruit comes from a small vineyard holding, though this is supplemented with
grapes bought in from around Epernay.
Meticulous production techniques from the use of their own cultured yeasts to its slow, long, cool fer-
mentation, ensure that the family has 100% control of the production.
Billecart-Salmon is renowned for the quality of its delicate Rosé, it is a romantic Champagne. The produc-
tion secrets of this cuvée go back to the origins of the house of Billecart-Salmon. It is a blend of Chardon-
nay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier. It has a pale salmon colour adorned with warm glints of gold and deli-
cate bubbles.
The Brut Réserve is harmonious and balanced, light and fine. It is also a blend of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir
and Pinot Meunier from 3 vintages sourced from the best sites in the Champagne region.

Serge and Franck Laloue
History
Sancerre is situated 200km South of Paris on a hill. The whole Vineyard of Sancerre represents around
2800 hectares on the West bank of the Loire river. The estate was founded in 1930 by Francois and
Simone Laloue who were farmers. In 1960, their son Serge came to work on the farm and focused on viti-
culture and in turn, his son Franck joined him in 1990.
The family run business is located in the village of Thauvenay, which is one of the 14 villages included in
the Sancerre AOC. It covers 20 hectares of vines, 15 of which are dedicated to the production of Sauvi-
gnon Blanc for Sancerre Blanc and and 5 hectares are dedicated to the production of Sancerre Rouge and
Rosé.
In the vineyard, chemical treatments are kept to a strict minimum as the estate has adopted the " lutte
raisonnée" method, for example, grass is grown in between the vine rows. The yield is also strictly con-
trolled through pruning and disbudding. The grapes are harvested mechanically but with great care and as
gently as possible. The juice is fermented in stainless steel vats and left on its lees for 3 to 4 months to
optimise structure and complexity.
Domaine Serge Laloue is the rising star of Sancerre.

Winemaker - Antoine Simoneau
History
The history of the Simoneau family as wine producers dates back as far as the French revolution when the
family managed to reclaim 1 hectare of vines from the authorities. Located in the heart of the Loire Valley,
famous for its many beautiful Châteaux, the estate, which now covers 55 hectares, sits on the gentle
slopes of the river Cher. The winemaking techniques used include green harvesting, harvesting at dawn or
dusk, when it is coolest, to preserve the delicate aromas of the white grape varieties. The result is a wine
intriguingly balanced between the old and new world style.
The grape used is Chenin of course, the Loire Valley being its native region. It makes light bodied and aro-
matic Sparkling wines. Mr Simoneau Touraine Brut is made with a secondary fermentation in the bottle,
bubbles are lively and fine, the nose is lemony and biscuity when the mouth is of a wonderful balance.

Winemaker - Antoine Poupard
History
It was shortly after the French revolution that the Regnard family started to buy their first vines. Today
the estate reaches over 70 hectares in Anjou. The range of grape varieties at the domaine is wide, that
combined with a modern, well equipped winery, a skilful winemaker and careful management of the prod-
ucts and practices used in the vines, ensures the consistent quality and evolution of the wines. The soil
vary from argilo-slaty, rocky to sandy. Rosé wines are a speciality of the domaine and represents half of
the production. The constant quest of the domaine for excellence has been rewarded time and time again
(Concours général, Concours des Ligers, Concours du Lys, Mondial des Rosés, etc..). Antoine Poupard
continues to exploit the "Terroir" in such a way to ensure the best possible expression in the wines and
above all, aims at producing delicious wines for you to enjoy.

Winemaker - Jean-Francois Bordet
History
The domaine de Charmoy's roots in Maligny, the front door to Chablis, can be traced back generations.
Chablis is blessed with rich soils from the kimmeridgian era (80 millions years old, made of white clay and
fossilized oysters) that give wines their specificity and unique iodine character. The Domaine consists of
14 hectares of vines all planted with Chardonnay resting on South/South east facing slopes, the best expo-
sure, producing wines with heart and soul.
The age of the vines vary from 10 to 15 years old for the Petit Chablis to 40 to 45 years old for the Cha-
blis Grand Cru. The vinification is made in stainless steel temperature controlled tanks for all wines ex-
cept the Chablis Grand Cru which is aged in temperature controlled wood tanks. Production averages
70000 bottles for the Chablis but only 1500 bottles of the grand cru are available.

Winemaker - Olivier Fichet
History
The domaine Fichet is situated in a small village called Igé, consisting of 24 hectares of which more than
half is planted with Chardonnay grape. The estate is managed by two brothers, Pierre-Yves and Olivier
who respectively are recognised as perfectionists in their respective but complementary fields, for Pierre-
Yves the viticultural and for Olivier the delicate task of winemaking.
The utmost care is taken in the vineyard to ensure that the grapes achieve perfect maturity and state of
health for Olivier to craft them and deliver a wine that will respect the “terroir”.
Maçon Villages “Terroir de Burgy” is situated 12 kilometres north of Igé and is just short of 7 hectares,
Burgy is considered as a premium village in the Maçon Villages appellation.
The Château London is situated on a south-west facing slope consisting of clay and limestone soil with a
bit of chalk, the parcel is only 4,75 hectares which is typical of a Burgundian estate.
The Pouilly Fuissé “La Chatière” is hand harvested and fermented in oak barrels for 6 months and then
bottled.

faces South, Dominique, the owner and winemaker at the Domaine, owns 17 hectares and only vinifies
grapes from his estate. Dedication to purity and a constant priority to expressing the terroir are key fac-
tors in the development of the estate. Wines are deep in colour, structure is essential but tannins are
silky. The wines from Dominique Morel attract many medals and accolades every year.

Winemaker - Franck Follin
History
The Arbelet Family have been linked to the tiny village of Aloxe Corton, situated on the doorstep of
Beaune, since the 19th century. They own vines situated on the prime hill site of Corton. Franck Follin is
at the helm of the domaine, he is the first member of the family to be fully involved in the domaine pro-
duction from vine to bottle. His first vintage was 1992. Franck was a geologist but decided to join André
Masson, his father in law and former director of the Hospices de Beaune, to put Domaine Follin Arbelet
on the map of the best domaines in Burgundy.
Franck is a purist in his methods and he lets the wines speak for themselves and, crucially, for their vine-
yard of origin. Herbicides and pesticides are banned at the domaine, all juices stay in contact with the skin
for 3 to 5 days ensuring full extraction and in addition caps are punched down during fermentation for
even further extraction. The wines are aged in barrels for at least 15 months.
Quality is consistently high here from generic wines to Grand Crus with a particularly fine and sophisti-
cated 1er Cru Vercots.

Domaine Leflaive, Puligny-Montrachet
Download this brochure at www.theboathousegroup.com
Winemaker - Anne-Claude Leflaive
History
The estate was first established in 1717 but Anne-claude took full control in 1993, the domaine now ex-
tends to 25 hectares, which by Burgundian standards is a rather good size. Anne-claude is deeply con-
cerned about the irreversible damage caused by the excessive use of fertilizers and pesticides and there-
fore in 1990 she adopted the biodynamic methods inspired by Rudolf Steiner. This involves using diluted
doses of plant based compounds, in time with the seasons and planetary movements to treat the vines and
soil. The results were such that the estate became fully biodynamic in 1998.
The average age of the vines are 30 years. The domaine produces Bourgogne Blanc, Puligny-Montrachet,
Puligny-Montrachet 1er cru Clavoillon, 1er cru Combettes, 1er cru Folatieres, 1er cru Pucelles and Grand
cru Batard Montrachet, Bienvenues Batard Montrachet and Montrachet.

Winemaker - Jean Marc Boillot
History
Jean Marc Boillot is Etienne Sauzet’s grand son, he settled in the village of Pommard at La Pommardiere in
1985 where he started vinifying his own wines. Prior to this, he was the winemaker at Olivier Leflaive's
estate in Puligny Montrachet. He now vinifies 11 hectares of both white and red Burgundies with his 2
childrens Lydie and Benjamin. The plots of vines are situated in the villages of Beaune, Pommard, Volnay,
Meursault, Puligny and Chassagne to include vineyards previously owned by Domaine Sauzet.
In 1989, Jean Marc created a second business of "Negoce of wine" essentially based in the Côte Chalon-
naise, Montagny and Rully, he vinifies the wines the same way as the wines from his own property.
Jean Marc Boillot is one of the rare winemakers to produce both white and red wines of the highest qual-
ity, but with his pedigree it doesn't come as a surprise!

Winemaker - Jean-Claude & Noël Ramonet
History
This famous domaine is known worldwide for its remarkable white wines, amongst which the Montrachet,
Batard Montrachet & Bienvenue-Batard Montrachet, these are absolutely iconic! They also produce Chas-
sagne 1er cru and Village. The winemaking is now in the hands of André's two sons, Jean Claude and Noël
as André is retired. André Ramonet is sometimes described as Burgundy's greatest genius! At Domaine
Ramonet, fruit from vines under 18 years old is excluded from their wines and yields are severely re-
stricted, bâtonnage is excluded but the wine is left on its lees for a long period of time before the first
racking. The winemaking is still rather traditional, the wines are aged in French oak barrels, of which 1/3 is
renewed every year, except for the Montrachet which is aged in 100% new oak barrels.

Winemaker - Christian Serafin
History
Christian Serafin is established in the upper part of the village of Gevrey-Chambertin, he inherited the do-
maine from his father Stanilaw, a polish mason, in 1988 but he had already been in charge of the winemak-
ing at the domaine for the last 20 years. Christian's philosophy about winemaking is simple, old vines and
low yields, the recipe of many of Burgundy's finest domaines. The man is modest but a serious winemaker,
the wines are bottled unfiltered, they are rich, concentrated and structured, ageing gracefully for years.
The domaine is small, 10 acres, but by Burgundy standards, it is a decent size.
The domaine is rich of several 1er crus and a grand cru "Les Charmes", Christian also vinifies a Morey
Saint Denis and a Chambolle Musigny.

History
The beautiful village of Montagne Saint Emilion is situated 5 km North East of picturesque Saint Emilion.
Château Puynormond is set on a South facing hill side overlooking their own vines and covers 12 hectares.
The domaine has been owned by 4 generations of the Lamarque family and only produces red wines. The
harvest is manual at Château Puynormond and the quality of the "vieilles vignes" cuvée, 100% Merlot, is
improved by a green harvest and careful attention through the vinification process. The production only
averages 40 hectolitres per hectares as the age of the vine is between 50 and 90 years old. The wine is

Winemaker - Baptiste Guinaudeau
History
Grand Village is the family home for Jacques and Sylvie Guinaudeau in Mouillac, the family also owns the
world famous Château Lafleur since 1872. It is a mythical wine, a jewel which lies at the heart of the great-
est wines of Pomerol. There are only 4,5 hectares of vines. The same meticulous attention is given to
wines from Grand Village as well as Lafleur.
Both a Bordeaux blanc and Rouge are produced every year, classified as Bordeaux Superieur, the grapes
are carefully selected according to the quality of the harvest and any rejected fruit is sold off as generic
Bordeaux. The White is fresh, lively and made for drinking young. The red is delicious in his youth but has
surprising longevity given the appellation level and is normally at its peak 3-6 years after harvest, depend-
ing on vintage.

Winemaker - Pilar Abellan
History
Bodega Vińa Elena is located on the Jumilla-Murcia highway, at a place known as Estrecho de Marin. The
Bodega is managed by Elena Pacheco, the winemaking is traditional combined with creativity and the vision
of a dedicated young and professional team guarantees the quality of their products. The wines are mainly
based on the Monastrell grape which is perfectly suited to the region. The grapes are hand picked from
young vines, they are then fermented in stainless steel tanks with a long maceration to extract maximum
colour. The wine then remains in 2 years old lightly toasted French oak barrels for 3 months. The result is
a perfect balance between varietal fruit and oak.
The Familia Pacheco Syrah/Monastrell 2008 has an intense ruby colour, a ripe fruit bouquet of cherries. It
is candid on the nose and warm in the mouth. Velvety and rich with a long finish.

Winemaker - La Rioja Alta S.A
History
The history of La Rioja Alta starts in 1890 when 5 Basque and Rioja based wine growers created the com-
pany. The Viña Alberdi estate was bought in 1970. Today, the company continues to foster the creative
and entrepreneurial spirit of its founders.
The ripening process was halted by extreme temperatures and a lack of rainfall in July and August, the
2003 crop required technically demanding procedures aimed at enhancing quality. La Rioja Alta S.A de-
cided on a selective harvest and only the vineyards in the highest areas provided the grapes to produce
this Vina Alberdi made of 100% Tempranillo.
The wine was aged for 2 years in American oak casks for the first year and in oak of an average of 3 years
old for the second year. It was racked four times by hand and by candlelight and finally bottled in January
2007.
Bright cherry red colour with a medium robe and light pinkish highlights in the glass. Intense, very fresh
aromas with hints of cinnamon, coconut and vanilla. Round and well-bodied to the palate, smooth silky
tannins thanks to perfectly ripened grapes and ageing in the cask.

Winemaker - La Rioja Alta S.A
History
In 1988, La Rioja Alta S.A bought the family estate known as Bodega Fernandes Cervera Hermanos and
soon changed the name to Lagar de Fornelos S.A. It is a small but welcoming winery situated in the village
of Fornelos. It has the capacity to produce 450 000 bottles per year. Its pink ivy-covered facade can be
seen from the road, the river Tamuxe flows by the rear of the house and an ancient and impressive old
stone and wooden wine press, now a museum piece, symbolises the hard work involved in making wine in
the past.
The Lagar de Cervera Albariño in the Rias Baixas Denominación of Origen covers 77 hectares. The grapes
are picked by hand and deposited in 20kg crates, they are then taken in refrigerated vehicles to the winery
where grapes are immediately destemmed for pressing. The fermentation takes place in stainless steel vats
at a low temperature. The wine then goes through a partial malolactic fermentation seeking a balance be-
tween acidity and alcohol content.
The wine is bright and pale yellow. The bouquet is typical of the Albariño variety, fresh, balanced and
structured to the palate. It is best served at 10* to 12* degrees.

Winemaker - Paddy Borthwick
History
Paddy has seven years of international winemaking experience in France, Switzerland, Australia and the
United States. Upon his return to New Zealand, Paddy spent five years as winemaker in Marlborough, so
with 24 vintages under his belt, the obvious next step was to use his passion, skill and experience into de-
veloping and producing his own premium wines from the boutique family vineyard.
All the fruit used in the Borthwick wines are grown solely on the Borthwick family estate.
The Pinot Noir is hand picked and fermented in open top fermenters, temperature controlled and a vari-
ety of yeasts both natural and cultured are used. Hand plunging optimizes fruit and tannin balance, with
extended maceration on skins. The Pinot Noir is then allowed to age in 40% French new oak for 14
months.
The Sauvignon Blanc goes through a cold fermentation, with 25% fermented in oak barrels, the lees are
stirred. After 5 month it is assembled, filtered and then bottled.

Winemaker - Clive Dougall
History
Owned by Michael Seresin, a New Zealand born film maker based in London, Seresin estate is situated in
Marlborough, New Zealand. Michael acquired the land in 1992 and started planting immediately with grape
varieties such as Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Pinot Gris and Pinot Noir.
The wines are hand grown, hand picked and handmade, Seresin wines have forged a reputation for indi-
viduality and complexity. Organic and biodynamic viticultural practices are conducted and most of the
vineyard is under BioGro certification and are certified organic or if not yet certified, in the process of
conversion towards organic certification.
Clive uses natural and gentle winemaking, with minimal intervention. The fruit is hand picked and then
hand sorted before being whole-bunch pressed, fermentation is natural using wild yeasts indigenous to the
winery for greater individuality.

History
Steenberg is one of the oldest farms in Constantia Valley and also the most Southern estate in the area, so
it benefits from the cooling influence of the sea breezes from the nearby False Bay.
The estate was redevelopped in 1990 as a golfing estate, hotel and premium winery.
John Loubster, the estate's general manager, believes that quality vineyards, climate and gentle human in-
tervention are the key elements to making superior wine. He now creates wines synonymous of the first
owner Catharina who developed this land 320 years earlier.

Mike Dobrovic, Winemaker
Mulderbosch Vineyards is a small but very high profile farm consisting of 48 hectares, of which only 21.67
hectares are planted with vines, namely Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Mal-
bec and Cabernet Franc. Although the quest for quality wines is uncompromising, the development of the
farm has not been without attention to the environment, with more than half of the farm being left to in-
digenous vegetation and wildlife. Harmony is central to the philosophy of Mulderbosch, and the emphasis
has always been and will always remain on quality at the expense of quantity.

Winemaker - Mike Dobrovic
History
Larry Jacobs bought the Mulderbosch farm in 1989 that had been terribly neglected and unfarmed. Wine-
maker Mike Dobrovic, better known as Mr Sauvignon Blanc SA, joined Larry and together they cleaned up
the property and planted the first vineyards, turning the farm's fortune around. Little did they know that
the wines would attract glowing accolades and a clutch of awards.
Mulderbosch is situated in the prime Koelenhof area of Stellenbosch. Specific to Koelenhof area is the
wind tunnel effect which benefits the vineyards as it cools them during the long hot summer months.

Seidelberg, Paarl
The harvest is made by hand, transported in baskets and sorting tables are used to remove any bunches
not meeting the estate's stringent quality standards. Seidelberg uses a mixture of centuries old traditions
combined with modern technology. Many of the reds are still fermented the old way, in open fermentor,
because they know that it will bring out the best of them. Oak barrels are used as a subtle complement to
the rich complex flavours of the wines.

winery label and the Roland's Reserve range is the flagship range. The estate is planted at a ratio of 80%
red and 20% white grape varieties, the red varieties are Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz, Merlot, Cabernet

The core principles of Organic viticulture is farming without genetically modified organism or synthetic
chemicals, fertilizers, pesticides and fungicides, instead producers adopt creative natural methods to en-
hance soils, vine health and grape quality like- Disruption of pests and integrated pest management -
Planting beneficial weeds - Introducing animal to graze weeds
Biodynamics has the same core principles as organics, no synthetic chemicals or GMO, but uses the fol-
lowing additional techniques recommended by Austrian philosopher Rudolph Steiner in 1924, to encour-
age sustainable growth in farming.
The use of special, natural preparations to improve soil quality and help vines better assimilate nutrients,
trace minerals and water for balanced growth namely:
Horn manure to improve soil vitality
Horn silica to enhance photosynthesis
Plant based compost preparations
Horsetail decoction as anti-fungal
Application of homeopathic amounts of these preparations holistically in accordance with bio-rythms
linked to plant growth (depending on lunar cycles, some days are better than others for planting, plough-
ing or harvesting).
Use of locally grown plants for Steiner's preparations.
