1 Introduction
1.1 General context
This report describes the project activity carried out by ShaleXenvironmenT partners for completion of Task 12.4 “Outreach to the Wide Public”. The deliverable for Task 12.4 is the launch of the project’s website.
This document provides an overview of the project activity corresponding to Task 12.4 and of the website itself.
University College London carried out web design. All partners in the ShaleXenvironmenT consortium contributed in delivering and revising content for the website.
1.2 Deliverable objectives
The objective of producing a website is to facilitate communication within and dissemination of the ShaleXenvironmenT project.
The website serves several purposes:
a) It acts as a source of information for a variety of stakeholders, such as academics, industry and governmental agencies conducting similar work and interested in collaboration with ShaleXenvironmenT partners and EU funders.
b) It disseminates information to the public in an easily digestible form, informing them of the importance of the research.

2 Design and Registration, Maintenance & Main Features
2.1 Design and Registration
The ShaleXenvironmenT project website has been created and was launched at the domain name www.shalexenvironment.org on 28th of September 2015.
UCL has performed the web-design and registered the domain name through WordPress. The registration is initially for one year and will be renewed annually throughout the project’s life, and beyond, if deemed necessary.
2.2 Website Maintenance
The website will be regularly maintained and updated by the Project Manager at UCL. New content will be added as it becomes available from partners. The website will be regularly reviewed and refined to meet the demands of the stakeholders and target audience.
2.3 Main Features
In order to provide easy access, each page on the website contains a header with the website’s menu (Figure 1) and a footer to browse the main website pages (Figure 2).

The EU flag and Horizon 2020 acknowledgment of funding can be seen on all pages as part of a widget in the right hand side bar (Figure 3).
A disclaimer on the EU’s responsibility regarding the project’s results and information contained in the website can be seen on all pages as part of a widget in the right hand side bar (Figure 4).
Additional widgets may be added in the side bar, as the project develops to feature key information on all of the website pages.
