Diff erent installation alternative of Uponor Underfl oor Heating System

Uponor Underfl oor Heating Systems can be combined with the Granab Subfl oor System with different laying methods. You can choose between lay-ing Uponor UFH Chipboards, groo-

ved 17, over the joists, joists mounting the Uponor UFH Cassette 20 with insulation between the fl oor joists, or Underfl oor Heating on a self-carrying fl oor on top of the joists

Uponor UFH Chip board 17 on the Granab joists

Grooved UFH Chip board is glued and screwed securely to the joists. Heat emission plates to distribute the heat are laid in the grooves and then underfl oor heating pipes are inserted into the plates. Renovation gypsum boards are mounted before the fl ooring is laid. This gives free mounting direction of parquet.

Uponor UFH Cassette 20 between the Granab joists

Underfloor heating is installed in an Uponor UFH Cassette 20 with insula-tion, which is laid between the fl oor joists. Th e cassettes rest on Uponor Cassette support. Th e standard distance between joists is c/c 600 mm. Th e fl ooring can be of 22 mm parquet (alternative 22 mm chip board with 14 mm parquet). Follow the floor manufacturer’s instructions carefully.

Uponor UFH on a self-carrying fl oor on Granab joists

On a carrying 22 mm chip board on a Granab joist system Underfl oor Heating can be installed in Uponor 30 mm polysty-rene panels, alternative the heating system can be installed in a ”self-levelling” poured screed. Consider the need of moisture proof layer.

Granab Subfl oor System and Uponor Underfl oor Heating System 9

Uponor UFH Chip board, grooved 17 Procedure for installation

First the surfaces where the underfl oor heating and subfl oor systems are to be installed must be cleaned and made accessible.

Th e manifold cabinet should be positio-ned as shown in the drawing.

Install the feed lines from the heat source to the underfl oor heating manifold. Th e supply line is fi tted to the upper mani-fold and the return line to the lower one. Each manifold is equipped with a balancing valve.

The feed lines must be secured suf-fi ciently.

Any excess adhesive should be wiped away, with particular attention being paid to grooves where underfl oor heating plates or pipes will be fi tted later.

Holes (diameter approx. 65 mm) must be drilled in the Uponor UFH Chip board for the underfl oor heating pipes, supply lines. It may be helpful to cut an extra hole in line with the fi rst in order to facilitate the use of rising pipes. Th e position of the hole is shown in the underfl oor heating drawing. It should be positioned where the loop fi eld starts or ends.

The protective pipe is secured to the underlying surface using pipe clips

Electrical wiring and pipes are drawn fl exibly under the fi nished fl oor

The underfl oor heating pipes are drawn through conduit pipes to every room with underfl oor heating

Install conduit pipe from the manifold cabinet to each loop and connection point. “Connection point” means the place where the underfl oor heating pipe is to come up through the Uponor UFH Chip board, grooved 17 (see underfl oor heating drawing).

The subfloor system should now be installed according to Granab’s installa-tion instructions.

If the walls are to be plastered, make sure that the gypsum board beneath the mani-fold cabinet does not reach right down to the basefl oor. Th e board must stop level with the upper edge of the Granab fl oor joist.

Fit the Uponor Chip board over the Granab subfl oor. All joints must be glued in accordance with instructions. Mount short joints over the joists and screw the chip board.

Secure the conduit pipes as required, with a distance of max 600 mm between the clips. Th e last clamping ring before the connection point must be no closer than 600 mm. The conduit pipe must stop approx. 150 mm above the fi nished fl oor.

Make sure that pipes passing through the chipboard have a soft bend so that the pipe will not press against the parquet or fl oor surface that will be laid over the Uponor UFH Chip board.

Th e turning grooves for the underfl oor heating pipes must be milled as close to the opposite wall as possible. Check also that the depth of the groove is suffi cient. Normally, the depth of the groove cor-responds to the maximum depth of the Uponor Milling Machine.

After vacuuming, the fl oor surface must be covered with Uponor Heat emission plates. All straight grooves are equipped with plates. Th e distance between the plates must be 10-100 mm lengthwise.

Th e underfl oor heating pipes can then be installed. Remember to connect the supply and return lines to the correct part of the underfl oor heating manifold. Check also that the pipe have no tension when coming up and down from the Uponor UFH Chip board.

All underfloor heating loops must be marked at the underfl oor heating manifold in accordance with Uponor’s underfl oor heating drawing with room designation and/or loop number.

Before the fl oor is covered, the under-fl oor heating system must be tested for tightness in accordance with Uponor’s instructions.

Th is testing must also be documented in a separate document.

The protective pipes containing the underfl oor heating pipes are drawn up and connected to the underfl oor heating manifold

Once all the loops have been fi lled and tested for tightness, each underfloor heating loop can be balanced in accor-dance with Uponor’s underfl oor heating calculation.

6-13mm gypsum board is then installed over the pipe and heat emission plates. It should be screwed into the chip board between the Heat emission plates c/c 200 mm. Then parquet can be laid freely in any direction.

It is important that the fl oor surface layer or protective fl ooring be fi tted as soon as possible after the system has been tested for tightness.

NB! Th e Uponor UFH Chip board is not intended for use as a working fl oor.

Once installation is complete, install and function test room regulation.

Before installing underfloor heating plates the fl oor surface must be vacuum-cleaned carefully.
