EXECUTIVE NOTES Objective
To create a space that all children can use for both learning and play.
Statement of Goals
The goal for this project is to transform Promise Ministries current narthex,
nursery, and barn areas into a children’s wing. Once added together the current
space totals to 6510 SF. Promise wants to have a space that invites all children,
and their families, can come to learn, play, and grow in their faith. The children’s
wing will be designed in such a way that every child can enjoy if they have a
disability or not. This space will a line with the idea of “Up, In, and Out.” Giving a
space where children and their families can spend time with God (Up); where
they can spend time with others in both their immediate and church family (In);
provide a space to reach to others in Fort Wayne and surrounding areas (Out).
Executive Statement
The building located at 7323 Schwartz Road, Fort Wayne, IN 46835 is currently
used as a church. However, this plot of land contains farmland, and therefore
part of the existing structure used to be a functioning barn. “The barn” was later
transformed into a small sanctuary and had a small office, kitchen, and bathrooms
added onto it. Then in 2004 a new addition to the church was built. This created
a new sanctuary space that would double as a gym, a nursery, and many offices
and classrooms.
To suit the clients wishes a portion of the 2004 building, as well as the barn will
be redesigned. With this redesign the space must still include a play area for ages
0-3, a coffee and snacks area, and both play and learning areas for Kindergarten –
5th grade. The space should be designed in such a way that invokes learning, play, and creativity.

The structure will be designed with the concept of universal design. The goal of
universal design is to create an environment that all people can enjoy, both
young and old with and without disabilities. This design theory will be included
when thinking about the layout, textiles, flooring, and workflow of the space.
