THE CHALLENGE

29 Calendar days prior to the move, the client had its workforce hired, and notified Graebel Move Management about the group move.

THE SOLUTION

The in-region Move Management APAC team in the Singapore business center developed a strategy immediately. One project leader (Move Management international operations manager) and three household goods coordinators were dedicated to manage the project. to the soon-to-be-opened office in Suzhou, exactly as directed by the client’s time-lines and objectives.

The Move Management strategic plan included scheduling packing dates close together, wherever practical, to maximize suppliers’ productivity and lower costs. The deliberative date approach also led to employees reporting to their new assignments in Suzhou faster.

The move was conducted in two phases over eight weeks. 41 Employees moved in the first group, and the remaining 11 people in group two.

The intra-China group move project leader from the Move Management Singapore office traveled 9,358 miles (15,060 km) to and from Suzhou, China twice for a two-day trip for each of the two phased group moves. He evaluated each supplier’s performance; and, personally visited with as many of the client’s transferred employees as possible to ensure that their expectations were exceeded. Plus, two additional veteran Move Management executives conducted the same check-in visits on two different occasions during the group move. One traveled from Prague, the Czech Republic (10,463 miles/16,838 km round-trip) and the second traveled from Singapore (4,679 miles/7,530 km round-trip).

Close to 20-percent of the relocated people were personally visited by the Graebel Move Management executives (who traveled 28,228/45,428 km in their total round-trips), to ensure that their moving experiences were positive, and to gauge the suppliers’ services for this group move. Additional client employees not part of the new office opening group move, but who were being relocated within the region, were also personally visited by the Move Management team.

THE RESULTS

“Employees were exceedingly happy with the services received and surprised by our personal visits and support. They felt that our services were highly personalized! Trusted relationships were formed, and as their careers advance, Move Management will be poised to administer their moving services in 165 countries on six continents,” remarked the Graebel Move Management team project leader about the post-move consensus from the clients’ employees.

The 52 families in the two group moves were successfully relocated exactly to the client-driven deadline for its office opening. And the Graebel Move Management initiated negotiations with its supplier network for volume-pricing concessions beyond the contract terms, the client realized an additional $20,800 (USD) in bottom-line savings. The relocated people were pleased with their decisions to move to Suzhou, thanks to the high-quality service, and customer-first attention from Graebel Move Management.
