Graduating Student Survey Fall 2015 Summary The purpose of the Graduating Student Survey is to determine the level of satisfaction of graduating students concerning their recent higher education experience at University of Houston-Clear Lake (UHCL). The graduating student’s opinions are solicited regarding which areas or issues should be improved to ensure that UHCL maintains the highest quality of instruction. The percentage of students who would recommend UHCL to family or friends is included in the UHCL progress card each year and is shown below. The online Graduating Student Survey is conducted in fall and spring semesters using Qualtrics survey software. 35. If not, please explain why not:
i might have chosen the MS Finance instead of the MBA
If anything, I may have gone to UH main because I feel those students have more opportunities.
I would choose a more specific degree plan
The style of teaching of most professors is not professional. Some are good but are either too slow or too fast.
My dream is to graduate from the University of Houston. I spent my freshman year there, growing my relationship with the campus and everything about it. If I could go back intime, I would have taken out loans and finished my degree there. I want to be a Coog.
N/A
Lack of technological skills that applies in the real world. For example, training in SAP and Excel to use in the real world application. There was no very little emphasis on Exceland none on SAP which is the primary software used by accountants.
I don't like business
And probably dual major in accounting.
There are many core(mandatory ) courses in MIS and with only two electives and the electives should also belong to ISAM courses. There are students who want to take acourse from MBA/Computer Science/ Engineering Management but are forced to take only ISAM electives.
I wish I had worked harder in high school to attend a university with more prestige. I would be more marketable as far as career searching
The business courses required for a bachelors degree in Mangement Information Systems are useful. The M.I.S. department is lacking in many aspects.
UHCLis not a very good school.
UHCL does not offer a Master's program for Marketing.
I knew coming in UHCL was originally geared towards working adults, but for new incoming kids the college doesn't give me the true "college life" and their is a lack ofencouragement to have students seek out internships/co-op programs. I am happy with my degree but I feel like it should be a sub plan of another business degree or sub planfor Environmental Science. I am looking to obtain a masters next but I am going to have to go back to a community college and take a good amount of classes to cover eitherbusiness or science. I would also recommend requiring more technical classes for Environmental Management.
- Poorly developed curriculum with outdated information - Tenured professors abuse their status by discriminating against students
The experience was mostly positive. However, I had a couple awful professors. One that refused to adapt his teaching style and just point blank told students if they were notunderstanding concepts, it was not his fault. I dropped the class and took a professor that better explained the information. I have also had professors that were very ill preparedfor class, not having their examples working prior to teaching them. In my opinion, we should not be spending class time troubleshooting things. One other problem I had wasthat I was admitted and took the final capstone class then was emailed that I was missing a class from my time in community college 6 months after I submitted my graduationaudit and very inconveniently after class registration was over.
I don't like this school in any aspect

37. Tell us why you would or would not recommend UHCL.
Accredited program, convenient location for face-to-face courses, low cost.
Advisors are horrible, and the school did nothing to change this or fix the things that went wrong.
A great college to learn ang gain knowledge. A collge that encrouges students to be an all rounder and succed.
Beautiful and friendly campus. Professors are always helpful. I made better grades here than at San Jac.
Beautiful campus, wonderful online degree programs, supporting staff and overall a pleasant few years.
because I like the school
Close, inexpensive, and quality education.
Close to home, enrollment very easy, books easy to find, solid course material, excellent professors.
Excellent school and staff
Faculty, environment, flexibility, accreditation.
Faculty teaches less and expect more from students. They don't recognize students effort. They just grade as they need. Students suffer from thier grading and nobody cares
about that.
Friendly and enthusiastic staff Affordable tuition fee
Fun professors, well maintained campus and takes the stress of being a college student away.
great place!
I did not like that most of my courses were ONLY offered online. I am a hands on learner and be forced to take so many online courses was difficult for me.
I feel that I got a great education and I am proud to have been part of this institution. As an added bonus the cost of attending UHCL is much more affordable than other schools.
I found UHCL a great school to attend and the professors are great.
I think that the faculty is wonderful and the campus is great! I learned a lot and enjoyed my experience.
It is affordable. Great atmosphere. I have really enjoyed attending.
Its fine for a school. It really depends on what is convienant for you.
I was very pleased with the quality in the professors. I feel all of them had an emphasism on teaching rather than just research. I also found the ability to work a full time job and
attend school part time extremly enriching. This made the MBA program much more interesting as I was able to relate things I was studying to my work environment and vice
versa. I found the program very affordable and a great value. I found that many of the students were international. While this gave some great perspecitves on other cultures, I
found it rare to develop meaningful friendships through this program. While I question how far the UHCL MBA degree will take me in my career after graduation, I have received
several promotions over the last three years and I believe my sucess in my studies played a factor in that.
I would recommend UHCL because I believe the atmosphere helped me get my degree done. Everyone else who is a student is older and working, so they all had the same
ambitions.
I would recommend UHCL for location and relaxed, but professional, environment. While small campuses don't offer as much, you also avoid many hassles of a large
university.
I would recommend UHCL for someone who is struggling financially, but if that person was looking to experience the "college life" and internship/co-op programs I would highly
recommend that they find a better school.
I would recommend UHCL to anyone, however I would advise that some improvements be made to HADM program.
medical center campus is a little far from UHCL main campus, and all administrative work needs to be done at main campus, it's hard for international student to attend the
orientation or other events or use school resources if they don't have a transportation tool.
My experience with UHCL was good and bad. My face to face classes were good, I didn't have any problems with them. However, my online classes were a bit of trouble.

Not for accounting as they did not provide me with enough resources to start a career. The curriculum is outdated and needs to be revamped to account for current practices
used. I would apply more emphasis on technology and less on journal entries.
People pay large sums of money for sub par educational returns.
Professors and standard of assignments are not worth the market demand requirements.
Small campus and great faculty
Small classes, friendly people, more access to resources, mature\focused student population and pretty campus.
Student friendly
The advising staff is terrible. The only advisor that could answer any questions was Gayla (She was actually really great). The rest of them never understood the students questions
and failed to do things in a resonable amount of time. It made the whole experience confusing and frustrating. ********* is rude to all of the students. I did not hear of one positive
experience with her while I attended this school.
The curriculum is good and according to the changing market. But, I feel the professors have to take initiative to develop students who are introverts and encourage them and
provide that helping hand when they need.
The online classes work mostly, fairly reasonable price
UHCL has an amazing environment and small classes that make learning a lot easier
UHCL manages to bumble the most simple things. It's a glorified junior college that acts like a major university. I can go to UH main campus for the same money and have
access to ten times more activities and organizations. The big four accounting firms don't even recruit from UHCL. Should I go on.
UHCL offers plenty of venues to pursue a higher education. It facilitated my educational needs exceptionally. Thank you!
Up to now, it is still a quiet campus that focuses on academics and not on all the extracurricular excesses that other universities have.

38. Additional Comments (for any issues or concerns you may have):
Availability of face-to-face finance courses.
Change the system.make students aware of subject and expect knowledge.
Felt that the cost of my education was reasonable.
I attended the school before freshman and sophomores were admitted. After that change, class schedule availability and professor selection went down a lot. While I don't knowtoo much about the situation, I feel UHCL was spreading its resources too thin. After lower classmen were admitted, I felt the needs of upper classmen were put to the side and Ino longer felt as valued at a student by the university as I did before.
I enjoyed all my courses.
In general, I feel that I got more out of the lecture courses and I wish more were offered in the program, especially in the summer. While I found most of the online courses to begreat (the only one I really disliked was FINC 5133), I do wish lecture courses would be offered more regularly in the later evening times (the 4:00 PM classes were difficult tomake with my work schedule). In my opinion, the coursework was generally easier than what I took in undergraduate at Texas A&M. Having said that, I feel I understood andmaintained as much, if not more, out of the UHCL courses that I took. I was very satisfied with this program. I believe the faculty was exceptionally talented. I like that theprogram was affordable and enabled me to continue to maintain a full time job. I believe it has helped me develop into a more capable leader and enriched my understandingof business operations.
Lastly I would like to say the one reason I did choose Uhcl was the convince factor close to home and smaller classes. However after further the review, I have concluded thatdegree does hold the same value as from UH main campus. Employees are looking for grads from the main campus and actively recruit from there versus UHCL
MGMT 5032 and DSCI 5031 need some work. Both of these classes are requirements for a number of degree programs, and thus affect many students. For this reason theyshould be very well organized. MGMT 5032 had many issues related to the group projects - too much of one person's grade relied upon the efforts of others who often did nothave the same degree of aptitude and attitude in striving for an 'A'. The professor's grading at times seemed arbitrary - there should have been a clear rubric. In DSCI 5031, theprofessor is disorganized, and there were too many errors in the book, the extra materials, and the exams.
My experience isn't that good with couple of professors, who are partial to some of the students, who they like and didn't really bother about the other students. Those studentsmanaged to made an "A" without even doing the course work.
N/A
One class was offered to graduates and undergraduates with the exact same coursework yet graduate level was more expensive and that shouldn't happen
Please work on the website as well as the wifi on campus. Many prospective students have told me they didn't choose our school due to an outdated website.
Professor Lin and Professor Shen in the MIS department are amazing. So is Professor Durand from Management and Professor Black from Statistics.
The UHCL main campus provides a great studying environment for students, hope other off-campus locations can become better with more advanced hardware and softwaresupport.
You would probably get more students if your online classes worked better around shift work. The teachers in the business field need to have clearer instructions. Need morebusiness online degree programs variety.
