“I applied to mfg because I wanted to work for a local law firm that would support and prioritise my development and progression towards making me the best solicitor that I can be. My expectations have been exceeded and I have been overwhelmed by the amount of time which has been invested in me.I was given responsibility for my own caseload early on and I have had the opportunity to gain experience in a variety of practice areas meaning that I am constantly challenged but I have always felt supported and encouraged by my supervising partners and colleagues. The thing that I love most about mfg is the people who work here and the values we share. There is a real sense of camaraderie which is encouraged by mfg through the social and networking events that are organised for us such as: rowing, sports days and theatre trips.”

“As soon as I started my employment at mfg, I knew this was the firm for me. The Firm is welcoming, friendly and really takes an interest in your development. The Firm focuses on your individual interest in a particular area of law and focuses on giving the right time and dictation in developing the set of skills to become a ‘complete’ lawyer. The training experienced during my training contract was excellent, with a wide range of seats being offered so that one can get a right balance and also experience different areas of law which they may not necessarily have thought was for them. There is a lot of time, development and focus with your supervisor which I found extremely beneficial. The Firm provides exceptional client service and thus focuses its time and resources into its Trainees to ensure that they develop the skills and necessary attributes to deliver the best possible service to the firm’s clients. mfg has also given me the opportunities to expand my network outside of work by regularly inviting staff of all levels to attend various events which is refreshing. The employees at mfg are great and you certainly do make friends for life.”

“As soon as I started at mfg I immediately felt part of the team. The Firm has quality people throughout, with supervisors (who are experts in their field) that take time to encourage and support trainees to fulfil their potential. At mfg, your colleagues are not only knowledgeable but approachable. What makes mfg stand out is the opportunities that are provided to experience high quality and varied work, along with direct client contact right from the word go. mfg understand that early experience of high level work, coupled with excellent supervision helps to develop better lawyers.mfg is keen to support your personal growth and involves fee earners of all levels in business development, marketing and networking events. The Firm really emphasises the importance of exposure to this side of the profession early on in your training contract and helps you develop these key skills.”

Ben RotheryAssociate“mfg provides you with early exposure to clients which you would not encounter at larger firms. This, coupled with the support from experienced personnel and partners within the firm, allows you to develop the technical and communication skills alongside a commercial way of thinking which are key to making great lawyers. After what felt like a whirlwind two years trying my hand within a variety of disciplines, I decided that commercial property was the career for me. mfg prides itself on providing excellent service and going the extra mile for each and every client and this value was instilled from an early stage of training. There is a strong focus on career progression, and thanks to continued support from my team and opportunities to work with great clients, I have been able to progress up the career ladder having recently been promoted to Associate. Since qualifying, I have continued to work alongside likeminded colleagues and have had the opportunity to be involved in exciting high level projects. Even at a junior level, I have felt like a hugely valued member of the team.”

take a walk in our shoes - Our MD

“From the commencement of my training contract mfg and those supervising me offered encouragement and support to develop my technical and communication skills into a well-rounded lawyer. The opportunities presented to me from regular hands-on experience with clients and other professional advisers to marketing and other social events allowed for progression in my networking skills to enhance my own personal profile and that of the Firm. With the variety of specialisms in all aspects of law, the seat rotation offered by mfg throughout the training programme offers opportunities to experience and encounter a great diversity of areas of law to aid the decision making process upon qualification. The Firm prides itself on exceptional client service, so you can see why the Firm really does devote time to your training and makes that investment into your future from the outset.”

Our aim is to employ a diverse section of the community in order to supply an expansive set of legal services across the region to our clients. We have a background of ‘growing our own’ by encouraging Trainees to identify and explore their talents which enables them to find their own niche within our eight varied divisions. It’s a fact that students who train with us become very employable due to the well-rounded training and the opportunity to really get involved with our clients and their matters.

We take pride in the way we train and support our Trainees and their retention is important to us as they acquire and understand our processes and more importantly our clients.

As a Trainee it takes a while to understand what area of law you would like to be an expert in but we also keep an open mind to new opportunities to develop areas where traditionally we have not practiced.

We do expect Partners and staff to have a work/life balance and whilst we expect a good work ethic there is no competition as to who spends more time in the office. Working and managing time more effectively is the key to a satisfying working environment and we can assist with training where required.

I am a product of this nurturing and encouraging approach which has allowed me to qualify, (as a second career,) achieve Associateship, become a Partner and move on to the Board all within seven years of starting as a Trainee.

If you are looking for a high quality training contract with colleagues who want you to succeed - join mfg!

Harjie Singh BindraPartner and Head of Litigation

“As a mentor to mfg’s Trainees, I share the Firm’s passion for helping nurture and grow its talent. Our Trainees thrive by being given a range of work across divisions, which is both stimulating and challenging, in turn supporting their development into qualified Solicitors. Indeed, our successful graduate recruitment programme is all about finding our Partners of tomorrow. We want your two year training contract to be just the start of an exciting journey! Our commitment is to give you the environment which brings out your true potential, one which is inclusive and increasingly progressive.

If you feel you can make a difference, we’d love to hear from you.”
