The Saskatchewan AdvantageThe University of Saskatchewan (uSask) has been a place where people from across the world have pursued education and knowledge for more than 100 years. Established in 1907, our institution has continually grown and flourished to become the place of curiosity, spirit and potential it is today.

Our historic main campus in Saskatoon is recognized as one of the most beautiful in Canada, with plenty of green space, stately greystone buildings and tree-lined walkways.

Through the Saskatchewan Immigrant Nominee Program, the province invites residency applications from non-Canadians who want to make Saskatchewan their home and nominates successful applicants to the federal government, so they can gain permanent residency in Canada. For more information visit: saskatchewan.ca/immigration.

As an international student, you may be eligible to work in Canada while studying and after you graduate.

The Graduate Retention Program provides Saskatchewan income tax credits of up to $20,000 over seven years for tuition fees paid by post-secondary graduates who live in Saskatchewan. To be eligible, you must live and file an income tax return in Saskatchewan.

Visit students.usask.ca/international and consult the website of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) at cic.gc.ca for more information about studying in Canada.

Another advantage of living in Saskatchewan is free Saskatchewan government health insurance for full-time students with a valid study permit.

In addition to basic health insurance, both undergraduate and graduate students receive extended health and dental benefits through their student unions, which cover things like prescription drugs, vaccinations and vision care.

The University of Saskatchewan is located in the city of Saskatoon. With a rising population of more than 250,000, Saskatoon offers many of the amenities of a large urban centre along with the friendliness and accessibility of a smaller city.

There is plenty to do in Saskatoon every season, with live music events, festivals and cultural experiences offered year-round. With its vibrant mix of many cultures, Saskatoon’s blossoming culinary and local shopping scenes also stand out.

Language CentreUNIVERSITY PATHWAY: STUDY ENGLISH AT THE LANGUAGE CENTRE

When you apply for joint admission to an academic program and to the University of Saskatchewan Language Centre for English language study, you can choose from two English program options:

■■ U-Prep ■■ U-Bridge

Passing the highest level of either channel allows you to meet the University of Saskatchewan’s English language proficiency requirements for admission to most degree programs and will help you prepare for successful study at the University of Saskatchewan.

U-PREP CHANNEL

U-Prep 1 and 2 teach advanced English language skills as well as important academic skills, such as:■■ effectively listening to lectures and taking notes■■ research techniques and reading academic textbooks■■ writing academic papers■■ making class presentations and participating in group work

U-BRIDGE CHANNEL

Bridging 1 and 2 include content that is similar to the U-Prep channel but you are able to take a university class along with each U-Bridge level. You will learn the same academic skills and will learn how to apply them directly by dealing with real assignments, tests and exams in your university classes.

You will earn university credits for U-Bridge 2 and for two university classes in the U-Bridge channel.

Please note that not all programs allow deferrals of admission, so you must consult with the administrator in your program prior to pursuing this option.

■■ After you apply for admission to your graduate program, email the graduate administrator in your department and advise him/her that you do not currently meet the English language proficiency requirements, but will submit a new score, or attend the University of Saskatchewan Language Centre if you are granted conditional admission.

■■ If your application to graduate studies is successful, apply to the Language Centre for the U-Prep program.

■■ Once you have been admitted to the Language Centre, we will send you an admission letter for the English program. You can use this letter and your letter of conditional admission for your graduate program for your visa application.

Applicants who complete U-Prep 2 at the Language Centre with a minimum score of 75% will be qualified to begin their graduate program at the next entry point. No additional language test is required.
