Message from the Dean
The Electrical Engineering Department at COMSATS Institute of Information Technology offers unique opportunities for education, research and innovation. The Electrical Engineering Department was founded in 1999 to meet the increasing demand for highly educated engineering graduates. Now, after more than nine years, Electrical Engineering Department has grown beyond expectations and is consistently ranked among the top ten Engineering Departments of Pakistan by Higher Education Commission of Pakistan.
Since its inception, Electrical Engineering Department has been active in recruiting outstanding new faculty members to support its teaching and research activities
and we continuously add significantly to this faculty base.
Under the umbrella of Faculty development program every year we send a number of our faculty members for higher education and short-term scientific and research training in well reputed International universities and institutes. Our young and highly qualified faculty members have tremendous potential to change the traditional way of thinking about engineering education, pedagogy and research excellence. I am convinced that as it continues to mature and expand it will emerge as an internationally recognized centre of excellence in the field of Electrical Engineering. Our faculty members are conducting research in the core areas of Electrical Engineering including Wireless Communications, Microwave Engineering, Signal and Image Processing, Data Communication And Computer Networks, VLSI, Embedded Systems, Optoelectronics and Photonic Systems, and Renewable Energy.
Since the establishment of Electrical Engineering Department we have increased our student body to over 6,000 students at different campuses of COMSATS Institute of Information Technology. The Electrical Engineering Department is distinguished by the extraordinary excellence of its students. Our students rank in the top tier statistically, come from all over the Pakistan and represent a rich blend of diverse cultural backgrounds.
When it comes to career development and planning, students at COMSATS Institute of Information Technology are supported by marvelous services of our career development center and advice from our newly-established Industrial Liaison office. The Industrial liaison office works closely with career development office to liaise with relevant employers in order to learn their hiring priorities and guide the students accordingly. These arrangements reflect CIIT’s commitment in enabling all of our students to access the maximum possible range of career opportunities in the engineering industry.
We offer undergraduate degree programs at different Campuses of CIIT in Telecommunication Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Electrical Power Engineering and Computer Engineering. Proposals for undergraduate programs in Mechanical and Civil Engineering are under-consideration. We also offer MS and PhD degree programs in Electrical Engineering and Computer Engineering. Some more MS and PhD programs are under development in collaboration with International Universities, as we have working relationship with quite a few International Universities, and these programs will be offered in near future. In support of research and training, we have established a Center of Advanced Studies in Telecommunication (CAST) at Islamabad Campus and similar centers of excellence in other areas of Electrical Engineering are going to be established in other campuses of CIIT.

Career Development Center, CIIT, Islamabad
Our newly developed campuses are equipped with state-of-art teaching and research labs, new libraries (one of the largest in the country), modern teaching aids and supplemented with wide range of facilities for extracurricular activities. Apart from educational excellence, we recognize that the choice of an institution is influenced by practical concerns such as location and cost. Our campuses are located at very convenient places and we are also striving to keep our tuition fee well-below the tuition fee charged by many other institutions of the country.
Our past achievements are a source of pride for CIIT and many more exciting changes are planned for the years to come. These changes are premeditated to ensure that the Engineering department at CIIT remains one of the leading institutions nationally as well as internationally. This is the best time to be a student at department of Engineering at CIIT and take full advantage of its rich learning environment.
Best wishes,
Dr. Shahid A. Khan Professor, Dean, Faculty of Engineering, COMSATS Institute of Information Technology Islamabad, Pakistan

Electrical Engineering Department @ CIIT
About Us The Department of Electrical Engineering began its journey in September 2001 at CIIT campuses of Islamabad, Abbottabad and Wah, and has made big strides in its brief span of existence. The peer-departments at CIIT Lahore, Attock, which were established in 2002 and 2007 respectively, offer congenial environment for studying various disciplines of Electrical Engineering. Our curriculum is unique in that it enables students to learn techniques required to solve complex engineering problems and at the same time equips them with managerial and professional skills.
Department of Electrical Engineering is situated in the Academic Block-1 of CIIT’s new chak-shahzad campus and is currently headed by Dr. Shahid A Khan.
Vision The Faculty of Engineering in CIIT is committed to be a world class center of excellence and a leader in teaching and learning within the field of Electrical Engineering.
Objectives To produce professionals who are very well-trained, skilled and efficient through the
establishment of excellent academic programs. To create an excellent environment for research and development activities. To actively achieve gender mainstreaming in our programs. Women are doing remarkable work in
the engineering world today. There is an increased demand from the female students to enroll in the Engineering Department. CIIT encourages and welcomes female enrollment and increase in their ratio in its engineering programs.

3 Double Sided Vacuum UV Unit
AZ210
A double sided vacuum UV is an essential tool for the production of double sided PCBs. The ability to expose both sides of the board at once eliminates the immense problem of artwork registration for two separate exposures on a single sided unit.
4 PCB Shear DM 9001
The larger DM9001 will cut materials up to 305mm (12") and has a height of 670mm and a footprint of 440 x 245mm. It has a larger cutting bed 225mm wide from the blade although once again wider material can be cut.

Research Groups
Following is the list of Research Groups of our department
Antennas and Microwave Engineering Research Group
The research group was established in 2005 with a few projects in the area of antennas. Thanks to the large human resource and state-of-the art equipment the research group is now actively involved in various applications of microwave engineering. Apart from conventional research work on filters and antennas we focus the activities towards interdisciplinary research. Group members have a large number of publications on their credit ranging from high impact transactions to international conferences. We specialize in antenna designing and offer a wide range of undergraduate and post graduate projects every year.
Group Leader: Dr. Junaid Mughal
Communications
Communication research group investigates the applied aspects in the domain of networking and communication
Group Leader: Dr. ShurjeelWyne
Cybernetics Robotics
Cybernetics involves studying the control and communication processes in mechanical, biological, electronic and information systems
Group Leader: Dr. Jamshed Iqbal
Integrated Circuits & Systems (ICS) Group
Group is initially aimed at developing research in the area of analog, mixed signal and radio frequency integrated circuit design. Analog/RF integrated circuits are fundamental part of every real life system. The advancements in the IC technology are taking place at an extremely rapid pace leading to extremely low supply voltages and smaller device dimensions. This has limited the applicability of circuit topologies which were being used 10 years ago. Also, analog/RF design for extremely short dimensions devices (CMOS transistors of as low as 45 nanometers length) is none less than a challenge for today's IC designers.
Graduate Booklet, Electrical Engineering Department.
Career Development Center, CIIT, Islamabad
Group Leader:Dr. Syed Irfan, Asst.Prof
Networks Research Group
Network Research Group is focusing on broadband wireless and mobile networks. The issues of interest include mobility management, quality of service (QoS), radio resource allocation and performance evaluation in diverse wireless networks such as 3G/4G cellular, WLANs, WiMaX, Wireless Mesh, UWB, ZigBee and Bluetooth. The major emphasis is on protocol design, development and optimization. The research work is carried out using both analytical and mathematical modelling (Queuing Theory, Game theory, etc) and simulation modelling (OPNET, ns-2, OMNET++, MATLAB, etc).
Group Leader: Dr. Shahzad A. Malik
Signal Processing
The Signal Processing Group is working on a wide range of topics in signal processing with emphasis on adaptive signal processing, statistical estimation and detection methods, multi-scale analysis, multivariate data driven time-frequency algorithms, and image processing.
