Grade 9 Assessments Uptown School Arabic A: In grade 9 assessment we will cover 3 criteria, for criteria A (content ) they will prepare the summary for our novel, and for criteria B and C students should write a Literary response ( narrative and dialogue ) related to the novel The Old Man and the sea. PE: Students will be writing a personal training program to improve two elements of their own fitness; based on data from their fitness profiles. It is expected that they will use the FITT principle to structure their programs. WE have already discussed this in class. This will be formally set next week, and they will have two weeks to complete it. English A: Students will write an edžtended personal response to the plaLJ An Inspector Calls. This will be based on the entirety of the work and will require reflection on the ambiguities in the plot. Students will be expected to integrate textual evidence into their work in a sophisticated way. English B: Students are currently engaged in a unit on the Media. Their topic centres around the concept of how the press can influence what we believe. Assignments will be on how to write tabloid and broadsheet articles, and persuasive writing skills. They will be assessed on all 4 criteria. Humanities: Grade 9 geography students are currently working on an independent research project that looks at the effects of a volcanic hazard on people and the environment. Students research a volcanic event of their choice and understand the events that occurred, how it was formed and what lead to any casualties. They choose their method of presentation either through a report or presentation. All criteria are being assessed. DT: Grade 9 have completed a presentation of their work. Uptown School is an authorised International Baccalureate (IB) Primary Years School and PYP IB World School. Uptown School is in the candidacy process for its IB Middle Years Programme, with the IB Diploma Program to follow. Uptown delivers the IB curriculum to grades Pre-K (3 by September 15) to Grade 9. In academic year September 2014 Grade 10 will be added with Grades 11 and 12 in 2015 and 2016.
