Islamiat

Esteemed & Honourable Parents / Guardians Beginning the day with As Salaam, Surah Fatiha – asking Allah’s help and guidance on the straight path followed by a supplication of Rabbi Zidni – asking Allah for increase in knowledge and understanding, continuing the day with profound, insightful & reflective lessons of Quraan and Sunnah, ending the day hymning the dua of bidding farewell and As Salaam. Welcome to HMA! Subhanallah, all this and much more is what resonates and reverberates daily at the Houghton Muslim Academy. We would like to express a warm and heartfelt welcome to all our esteemed & honourable Parents. I am really elated & overjoyed to be of service in imparting Islamic education to your child, with the passion, zeal and dedication to disseminate and impart quality Islamic education instilling foremost, the love of Allah and the Prophet S.A.W, integrated with secular learning ensuring learners can be equipped with a rich Islamic ethos and can be adequately prepared to lead and face the glaring and conspicuous challenges which embrace and grip them in their daily lives. Hence, together with you, we are looking forward to a fruitful, pleasant and fulfilling academic year, InSha Allah. To ensure this vision is achieved, you, the parents play a vital and key role, thus the following guidelines and requirements will be essential: Quraan is taught with meticulous precision incorporating Tajweed rules as per

their standard/level. Quraan should thus be revised with the same methodology. A minimum of 20 minutes daily recital is urged with continuous & constructive repetition. Each day’s lesson should also be signed in the Quraan.

Surahs, Duas, 99 Names and all Subjects done for the day should also be ‘revised’ daily to retain the work taught. This will also give you an indication if the concepts/lessons are grasped and understood. If not, please do not hesitate to communicate with a note at the back of the homework book.

‘Practise makes perfect’, hence, repetition is crucial for all areas of work. An easy way for learners to remember their duas is to consciously remind them to recite it at the relevant times, e.g. at the time of eating, sleeping, waking up, toilet, kalimahs at bedtime etc.

Learners who do not complete their work in class must ensure it is completed at home.

All books should be labelled and covered in plastic. Homework Book – each learner will receive a weekly plan of work which will be

pasted in the homework book. This should also be signed for acknowledgement and serves as a guide to revise at home.

Juzdaan’s are to be carried around the neck/shoulder. Kindly ensure it is brought daily with the necessary books.

Salaah Record Sheets – these will be issued to learners. Kindly remind them to perform their salaah at the appropriate times. This should also be signed daily. Remember, the best examples outside school are the parents.

Absenteeism / Holidays during the academic term are highly discouraged. This has adverse effects and repercussions which are extremely detrimental and puts the learner at a great disadvantage.

Spiritual Nurturing & Development Programmes - these take place throughout the year. Examples are the Durood Challenge, Salaah Sheets, Islamiat Speech Contest, Ramadaan Activity, Islamic Programmes based on the relevant Islamic months/events etc.

Monthly Sunnah Awareness – different sunnats are focused upon on a monthly basis and posters are put on notice boards to create awareness of reviving and practising on the noble sunnats of the Prophet S.A.W.

Kindly be assured that all work and lessons will be proficiently taught in class (i.e you will not be expected to ‘teach’ your child at home), however, you would play a vital role by daily ‘revising’ with your child.

If there are any concerns or queries at any time relating to your child and his/her learning, kindly feel free to contact me or arrange a meeting. I do appreciate your interaction and will most gladly assist you as best possible. Trusting you would do so.

May Allah make the acquisition of learning easy for you and yours and grant you’re shining stars beneficial knowledge. May Allah protect them from evil influences and always keep them on the straight path. Aameen

Your co-operation is anticipated and will be much appreciated.

Was Salaam

Yours in Islamic Education Moulana M. Salim Shaheri

Matches are arranged regularly and we are often invited to attend sporting festivals. Learners who are particularly talented and excel on the sports field are given ample opportunity to develop their sporting talents and to test the spirit and resilience against some of the top schools. During sport, we always teach our learners that no matter the result, win or lose, we always do it respectfully and gracefully. From time to time teachers and additional coaches add their expertise and help with the coaching and training of our learners.
