At the end of the second trimester an assessment covering the grade level standards that have been taught will be administered to all students. The test will be administered and scored by the general education teacher over a two-day period. ² Placement Test: As a predictor of the students likely academic success in PVCM 6, the placement test will include items which cover content that will be skipped if acceleration occurs. The Grade 4 placement test will be the same as the Grade 5 summative assessment. Parents of 4 th grade students will be given the option to OPT OUT of this test. ³ At the elementary level, a score of 90% + is necessary to establish readiness for acceleration by further quantifying the level of a student’s mathematical achievement. 4 The recommendation to accelerate to Algebra 1 is predicated on the expectation that the student will attend the Summer Bridge Class and attain a score of 85% + on the summative assessment at the end of Summer Bridge Class. The content of the Summer Bridge Class is the additional content that is taught in PVCM 7/8 Accelerated and is not covered in PVCM 7. PVPUSD will offer the Summer Bridge Class at no cost to families. The class will be instructed by a PVPUSD mathematics teacher. ¹ Summative Assessment: Summative assessments are used to evaluate student learning, skill acquisition, and academic achievement at the conclusion of a defined instructional period.
