Advanced Placement (AP) Opportunities

Opportunities to develop extended learning opportunities for

our students which can be achieved through our advanced

placement opportunities. AP is an enrichment opportunity.

● It is an opportunity to get career experience

in your interested field while earning credits.*

● Classroom learning (2 weeks) + 4 months of

work experience.

● Morning / Afternoon or Full Day Co-op.

Peer Teaching (GPP3O)

A leadership opportunity at John McCrae as a grade 11 or 12

student.

You work with a Teacher at McCrae within a classroom,

traditionally in a Grade 9 or 10 course.

Link Crew (IDC4U)

As a grade 11 student, you can apply for Link Crew class in

Grade 12.

If interested, please select this course on career cruising

(IDC4U) AND complete an application (due with your course

selection form).

Applications are available in Student Services.

Interviews will occur in March 2020.

Impact NOW

- Four credit package of courses.

- Will take place in Semester 1 (4 periods)

- Mandatory Course: HSE4M or HSE3E

(Equity & Social Justice)

- Optional Courses:

- CGW4U (World Issues)

- HSB4U (Challenge & Change in Society)

- ASM4M or ASM4E (Media Arts)

- IDC4O (Interdisciplinary Studies)

- BDV4C (Entrepreneurship)

- Application and interview required

for a position in the program.

Impact NOW you will not be able to

change your Semester 1 courses.

You must be fully committed for the

How many courses do you have to take in Grade 12?

If you passed 24 courses at the end of Grade 11, you will

require 6 courses in grade 12 to graduate with your OSSD.

But…..wait a moment...you have to think about:

1) University Requirements

2) College Requirements

3) “Safety Net” / “Buffer”

4) Course Availability

How many courses should you select…??

We STRONGLY suggest selecting 8 courses.

● Most grade 12 courses require prerequisites

Post-Secondary Consideration When Selecting

● Applying to Ontario Universities, you will require SIX (6)

Grade 12 U / M courses. (ENG4U + 5 other courses)

● To apply to an Ontario College, there can be a variety of

requirements. (ENG4C and MAP4C, SBI3C, SCH4C, etc)

● Prerequisite courses for programs at university / college

vary from school to school.

How to start Career Cruising?

1) Go to www.ocdsb.ca and click on the “Student Portal”.

How to start Career Cruising?

2) Click “Login Now”. 3) Sign in with OCDSB email

and password.

4) On the Navigation Bar, select the Grade 7-12 Tile, then

click on the Career Cruising Icon.

5) You are now logged into Career Cruising.

Select “Choose My Courses”.

selections!

*Nothing is official until you hit the SUBMIT button.

*When you hit SUBMIT, your courses are locked!

SUBMITA Course Verification Window will appear, please PRINT these pages!

If you are are unable to print after you hit SUBMIT, you can log back in later

and select the PRINT ICON and the required pages will appear for you to print.

Final Steps for Course Selection

Print and hand-in to Student Services:

The Course Request Sign off Sheet SIGNED BY A PARENT!

Courses are not considered to be final until this is handed in.

Summer School July 2020

Summer School information will not be available until late

March/early April.

Please choose your courses assuming you are NOT going to

Summer School for a Reach Ahead course.

Course changes will be made later during Summer School

registration, if needed.

Resource Period (Learning Strategies)

● You must have an IEP in order to take a Resource period.

● Resource is NOT available on Career Cruising

● Please make an appointment with your guidance

counsellor to discuss this option.

E-Learning (Online Courses)

● DO NOT SIGN UP FOR E-LEARNING COURSES ON CAREER

CRUISING. It does not register you for E-Learning.

● Announcements will be made when E-Learning registration

becomes available.

● Please see your guidance counsellor in the spring if

interested.

A few notes and reminders…..

● Once you select SUBMIT, you cannot change your course

selections. Please review carefully before you hit submit.

● If you would like to change a course after you submitted, there

will be an opportunity to do so in the spring.

● CO-OP, Link Crew and Impact NOW require applications to be

completed and submitted with signed course request sheet!
