MaterialSilver Steel BS1407 15 Hrc. Tolerances: ≤25mm: +0/-0.015mm, >25mm: +0/-0.025mm. Hardness: ≤285HB when measured in accordance with BS240.Surface Finish: 0.6µm or better.Tensile Strength: 680N/mm2.

OrderingAll shafts supplied 3mm oversize (minimum).Minimum order quantities may apply to 333mm lengths.Shafts in 2m lengths available, P.O.A.Non-standard diameters to 50mm available in custom lengths up to 2m to customer specific requirements.

Other Info.Hardening: The high carbon content of BS1407 silver steel means that it can be hardened to give considerable wear resistance. Heat slowly to 760 - 800°C using the upper end of the temperature range for lower carbon contents and lower end of temperature range for higher carbon contents. Austenitize until the temperature is uniform. Quench into well agitated water.The approximate quench hardness is 65 to 69 Rc. Tempering: Temper immediately after hardening preferably before the tool reaches room temperature. Temper for a minimum of 1 hour at temperatures between 180°C - 350°C, dependent upon the final hardness required (see graph opposite).

FeaturesA versatile high carbon tool steel ground to very close tolerances with highly polished appearance created by the extremely fine surface finish.The chromium content increases strength and hardenability. Readily machinable as supplied in the spheroidised annealed condition.
