D I S C O V E RAt GPRC, we are passionate about your Music. We understand what great music is about. Discipline, inspiration, talent, excellence and drive are all part of the formula that leads to one becoming a successful musician.

P L A YAll of these attributes begin with a solid foundation of training in the basics of musicianship, individual instrument or voice lessons, improvisation, music theory and history. GPRC also offers composition and recording technology. Exploration of the diverse world of music includes learn-ing about influences from classical to pop culture to world music.

Our facilities are equipped with grand and upright pianos, drum sets and other percussion instru-ments, sound-proof modules and practice rooms, rehearsal and recital halls, a computer/music lab, state-of-the-art Digital classrooms, recording studio and more.

G R O WWith a world-class recording studio under construction for Fall of 2009, we are ecstatic about the significant advantage our students will have, to learn all that the world of recording has to offer. This facility will rival some of the best recording studios in Western Canada. The opportunities for you the student will be second to none.

C O L L A B O R A T EAt GPRC we have five different ensembles for the performing musician: Wind Ensemble, Jazz En-semble, Orchestra, Electroacoustic Ensemble and Concert Choir. By rehearsing and performing alongside others, you will be inspired, challenged and motivated to explore musical genres while in a positive and exciting environment. Most musicians are only happy when they are playing, singing, performing or at the controls in a recording studio. A career in music is a possibility with the right tools to pursue your dreams. Exploring the freedom to write, record, perform and practice while fine-tuning the skills needed is possible through mentoring from our highly skilled instructors. Our students develop the confi-dence needed to develop their potential in their chosen field of study. We have transfer agree-ments with other colleges and universities in Canada. Many of our students transfer into their 3rd year of study at the University of Alberta and the University of Lethbridge.

I N S P I R EAn artist looks at the world a little differently. Learning to express oneself is a journey and an adventure all at the same time. At GPRC, we will inspire, motivate and encourage you to explore the visual process through drawing, visual fundamentals, painting, sculpture, photography and design. Through several art history courses you will learn about the artists of today while appreci-ating the many influences from our past.

C R E A T EYou will have the advantage of working closely with our highly trained faculty. Small classroom sizes and one on one attention from instructors who are artists in their own right, will help you reach your utmost potential. You will work in an exciting and creative environment alongside people who share your same passion. You will be challenged as an artist to dream, to set goals and to reach your potential.

B R O A D E NOur newly transformed facilities provide opportunities for all types of visual art production. You will have access to drawing, painting and sculpture studios, photography labs, a large well-equipped woodshop, welding equipment, a kiln, audiovisual equipment, computer labs and a video-editing suite. Opportunities for growth abound with our Visitor in the Arts series that showcases important artists of our time who have succeeded in their specific disciplines. You will celebrate your accomplishments and showcase your talents at various art exhibitions throughout the year.

I plan on finishing here at GPRC, moving on to a university and studying both art

and academics while developing my skills and interests through studio practice.

I’m going to travel. I’d like to experience different cultures, societies and art. As

far as a career goes, I just want art to be involved. I have a particular interest in

illustration but I don’t want to limit myself.S H E R I N A U L T

E N C O U R A G EWorking alongside like-minded individuals who share a common dream is inspiring. We offer practical, hands-on training to talented students who are committed to forging careers as ac-tors. Our diploma programs are intended for students who wish to work in technical theatre or community theatre settings and/or who wish to pursue further professional training in specialized theatre and film. We can provide the education you need to get you to the next “stage” in your career.

P E R F O R MImagine that all the world’s a stage! An integral part of the drama program is the aspect of per-formance and at GPRC the opportunities to perform and master your craft are endless. We have a dedicated drama performance hall and a fabulous 500 seat theatre to open the doors to your creative spirit.

C O N T R I B U T ECollaboration with our theatre community breathes life into many of the GPRC productions. In theatre, a large family of actors and technicians that share a love for the stage grows to support many of our productions. Most actors begin their journey when they choose a career in theatre. Your enthusiasm to per-form will continue to motivate you as you seek out new challenges.

There are many different careers available from working in live productions on stage to festivals and film, to directing and playwriting. Drama and performance students may pursue further stud-ies towards a BA drama major or a BA/BEd (Drama), program as well as gain the skills necessary to audition for a BFA in Acting.

For the technical theatre grad, the growing demand in the theatre and film industry may provide careers in lighting and sound, set and costume design, stage management and technical direc-tion. Other graduates may further their studies at universities and film schools throughout Canada.

You will perform. The Douglas Cardinal Performing Arts Centre, the Recital Hall, the Black Box, and the state of the art recording studio will be your venues.

You will exhibit. The Glass Gallery, the Black Box, and various exhibitions throughout the community will be your showcase.

You will be an audience. We bring in a wide variety of artists and performers every year to exhibit, perform, speak, and participate in workshops and master classes. Our Visitor in the Arts Series, the Arts Symposium and the College Concert Series are just a few of the opportunities that will enrich your GPRC life.

As you travel down your creative path we will strive to provide you with a rich environment filled with studios, labs, and interesting working spaces, some of which are driven by technology and some of which are driven by the energy of your classmates.

We believe that all challenges present opportunities for creative exploration. Seek out those challenges, explore fearlessly and get everything you can out of your education.
