NEW MEETING LOCATION ! ! ! ! ! The July 1 meeting will be held at the Blue Spruce shelter in White Oak Park..
Greetings Pony Lovers –
It was another stormy night – but we still had a good turnout for the season’s second outdoor meeting, held in North Park. And even though it was cool and rainy, at least it wasn’t windy! Let’s hope we have better luck for the next meeting at White Oak Park July 1
st.
If you can find a copy of the June issue of North Hills Monthly magazine, check out the feature article about car clubs on page 12. The GPMC is prominently featured, along with the Starlite Cruise and the North Hills Historic Auto Club. We’ll have extra copies available at the next meeting.
June was a very busy month, with lots of activities:
• Our all Ford-Powered Show was held on June 14th. I’d like to personally thank the
small but dedicated group of members who came out and worked the show. However, with such a small group carrying all the load, many had to work upwards of nine hours. We need to broaden member participation next year to make the level of effort more manageable. See the special 4-page insert in this newsletter for a Show recap and photos. The weather and the turnout both were excellent, with 129 cars registered. We also picked up four new members and one renewal. We’re still waiting for the final tally, but it looks like we raised a good amount for the Club and for this year’s charity, the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank.
• The June 19th “Mustang Night” at the Starlite Cruise was cancelled due to impending
rain. We’re working with folks at Northway Christian Community to see if we can reschedule.
• As I write this, Can-Am will be held in Niagara Falls, Ontario this coming weekend. The forecast looks promising, so hopefully more of you decided to attend. More in next month’s Newsletter.
Looking forward, July promises to be just as busy, with multiple events:
• As usual, the GPMC will be well-represented at this year’s Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix. We’ll have our Club tent at the Combined Car Show on race weekend, July 18
th
& 19th. And for the first time, we’ve purchased two Patron Parking Spots for race day,
the 19th. All members are welcome to come and share the shade under the canopies.
We’ll have a sign-up sheet at the July meeting for bringing pot-luck snacks. If you can’t come to the meeting, but want to bring a snack to share, please sign up with Jennie, our Newsletter Editor.
• We’ve agreed to host three car cruises this summer at the Kings Family Restaurant in Harmarville. They will be held the 3
rd Wednesday in July, August and September, with
the 4th Wednesday as the rain date. If you’re willing to pitch in and help out, contact
our Activities Director, Dwight Hutton.
• Our Hospitality Picnic will be held in conjunction with our August meeting on August 2nd
at Monroeville Community Park. The club will provide burgers, dogs & beverages – please sign up with Jennie if you can bring a side dish or dessert.
For a complete list of upcoming Mustang-related activities, please see page 4 of this newsletter.
Finally, let’s all get out there and talk up the Club. We need to recruit more members who want to be actively involved in our events. Whether you’re at a cruise, a car show or other type of event, we’re all ambassadors for the Club.
I look forward to seeing all of you at our July 1st meeting in White Oak Park. You should
have already received directions. You can also download them from the Club’s website at: http://www.gpmc.org/images/DirWhiteOakPark.pdf.

GPMC at the PVGP The GPMC is increasing its presence at the Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix in Schenley Park. As always, you will find the club canopy and a reserved parking area at the Combined Car Show on July 18 & 19. In addition, on July 19 we have two adjacent spaces in Patron Parking, just across the street from the Combined Car Show. Those spaces will be used to erect a canopy and provide an area for GPMC members to meet and join in the festivities. Bring a chair and watch the races!
If you register to show your car ($25) you will be able to park both days at the Combined Car
Show. There are two ways to register: o Register by mail - print out the registration form and follow the instructions: 2009
Combined Car Show Entry Form - PDF o Register online: Enter Your Car & Pay Online with Credit Card
For Sunday, July 19th: o If you aren’t registered to show your car, you can pay $10 to park in the spectator lot and
take a shuttle to the Patron Parking area. o Each member attending should bring (a) soft drinks/water enough for themselves and a
little to share, (b) munchies to share (potato chips, pretzels, cookies, etc.) and (c) a chair. There are numerous vendors selling a wide variety of hot and cold foods.
o The Barkers will bring a cooler full of ice and supplies like cups, napkins, and paper plates, along with 1 or 2 banquet tables.
We’re planning on a tropical theme, complete with tiki bar, garlands, etc. Wear something tropical to add to the fun.
GPMC HOSPITALITY PICNIC RETURNS ! ! !
We are again sponsoring a hospitality picnic in conjunction with the August meeting. The picnic/meeting will take place on Sunday, August 2, 12:00 noon to 4:00 p.m. at Monroeville Community Park. Alcohol is not permitted, but the club will provide beverages, hamburgers and hot dogs. All members attending are asked to bring either a munchie or dessert to share. Avoid items that could spoil in the heat (e.g., mayo-based sauces) unless you bring a container of ice to set them in to keep them cold. Please sign up at the July meeting or contact Jennie to indicate what you’ll bring.
A huge thank you to the following members who signed up at the June meeting to help with supplies:
