The long term outlook for electrical energy production on Guam is approximately 20% from renewable resources such as solar and wind power, 60% from liquefied natural gas (LNG), and only 20% from fuel oil. About Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) • LNG addresses GPA's fuel diversification strategy by reducing delivery and cost risks associated with a single fuel source—oil. • LNG is inexpensive to transport over long distances by sea because it takes up a small fraction of the space of Natural Gas for storage and shipping. • As an alternative to oil, LNG is projected to reduce sulfur dioxide emissions by 95% and other hazardous emissions as well. About Solar Energy Power • Solar power is a clean fuel source that does not pollute the air or produce greenhouse gasses. • The supply of energy from the sun cannot be depleted by using it to make power. • Solar farms require a large area, but can be established on rooftops. THE FUTUREGPA P WER

TODAY all our electricity is produced by fossil fuels. Burning fossil fuel (oil) pollutes the air and is thought to contribute to to global warming. In addition, fossil fuel is not renewable and places a strain on our local economy.

TOMORROW the Guam Power Authority will use economical, environmentally friendly alternatives for supplying our energy needs. The Public Utilities Commission has approved the GPA Integrated Resource Plan (IRP) that was developed with community participation. The long term outlook for electrical energy production on Guam is approximately 20% from renewable resources such as solar and wind power, 60% from liqueed natural gas (LNG), and only 20% from fuel oil.

In the future GPA will use a combination of many technologies to produce clean and reliable power while

protecting the natural beauty and resources of our island.

WIND POWER is a fast-growing energy resource. It can be used to generate electricity using the energy contained in wind to turn the turbines in generators at conventional power plants. Many wind energy farms are already replacing fossil fuel to provide some of the electrical power for communities on the U.S. mainland and in other countries.

About Wind Energy Power• Wind is a clean fuel source emitting no air

pollution or greenhouse gasses.• When the wind drops off, other units will pick

up production enhanced by Automated Generator Control.

LIQUEFIED NATURAL GAS (LNG) is expected to reduce GPA’s total fuel costs for producing electric energy on Guam by at least 13% or $39 million annually. LNG is Natural Gas that has been cooled to about minus 260°F. It is the same Natural Gas that is abundant and widely used in the U.S., but converted to a liquid state.

About Liqueed Natural Gas (LNG)• LNG addresses GPA's fuel diversification

strategy by reducing delivery and cost risks associated with a single fuel source—oil.

• LNG is inexpensive to transport over long distances by sea because it takes up a small fraction of the space of Natural Gas for storage and shipping.

• As an alternative to oil, LNG is projected to reduce sulfur dioxide emissions by 95% and other hazardous emissions as well.

SOLAR POWER is made from sunlight by harnessing the energy coming from the sun either directly or indirectly. Photovoltaic (PV) conversion generates electric power directly from the light of the sun in a photovoltaic (solar) cell. Concentrated solar power (CSP) is used indirectly for large-scale generation by concentrating solar energy to create a heat source to run steam generators. About Solar Energy Power• Solar power is a clean fuel source that does

not pollute the air or produce greenhouse gasses.

• The supply of energy from the sun cannot be depleted by using it to make power.

• Solar farms require a large area, but can be established on rooftops.

FUTURE GENERATIONS ARE COUNTING ON US Power is linked to every aspect of our lives and the quality of life our

island can oer. GPA is leading the way in exploring alternative economical, environmentally friendly and sustainable ways of producing

power. Working together we can create a new and brighter future.
