SC refuses modification of earlierorder on 'Green Regulator'

NEW DELHI, Nov 18:

Supreme Court today said itwill not alter its earlier 2011 direc-tion asking the Ministry ofEnvironment and Forests to con-stitute a 'Green Regulator' formonitoring environmental issuesin country.

Reserving its verdict on a pleaof the MoEF seeking modificationof the 2011 decision, a three-judgebench headed by Justice A KPatnaik, however, said it may

observe that the Centre was free tobring a new law on the issue.

"What we will do is this. Weare not going to alter the (Lafarge)judgement. We will say it is aclear judgement. In the last para,we can say the legislature is freeto make law on it but till the timethey have to follow the judge-ment. We are not going to reopenthe issue," the bench, also com-prising justices S S Nijjar and F MIbrahim Kalifulla, said.(PTI)
