Ph. No. +91-3823-270227; e-mail: [email protected]
Since Darwin explained the reasons 150 years ago, we know that it is not the
strongest or the largest that survive but it is those best prepared to cope with the
change. I take the opportunity to address as the Principal-in-charge of Michael
Madhusudan Dutta College, Sabroom. Let me congratulate you on your Higher
Secondary school achievements and I know that you as a body represent the best and
the brightest students from Sabroom in particular, if not from the entire South
Tripura. I also wish to congratulate your parents and guardians for the nurture and
support they have provided to you to this time. They must be justifiably proud to
have their sons and daughters here with us, and will continue to support and
encourage them I their new journey, while giving them some space to develop their
own identities.
Through this Prospectus, I symbolize the educational nature of this College and wish
you that you will become a part of this unique institution, much larger than this
Campus, one which extends its reach from the state to the rest of the country. Do
take advantage of this vibrant regionalism. It will serve you very well in the future as
it has been serving hundreds of students for the last 24 years. Also, teachers and staff
of this College are very grateful for our Government’s continuing support to our
college.
For the next three years you will feel extreme challenges of education and will find
the way of success in life. You will build fair personality, moral character and lifelong
friendships across the Region. You must also take every opportunity offered to you to
enrich yourself which will help you up your future.
We have regular faculties for different subjects and we appoint guest lecturers as and
when required to help us. Be part of this college for the overall development of this
region. With these few words I welcome you all to this prestigious institution.

From the Desk of the Principal-in-charge
The southern edge of Tripura, Sabroom, was once covered with dense forest and
almost a free zone for wild animals like, deer, bear, tiger and elephant. However, the
communication network and planned forestry has converted the Sub-Division into a
natural garden. Shilachari, Ghorakappa, Manubankul, Baishnabpur, Bishnupur,
Betaga, Herbatali, Chhotakhil or Manughat wherever one goes, he will be charmed
with the picturesque natural scenery of so-called inaccessible, remote wild areas.
Traditionally Sabroom can truly boast of the blessings it enjoys for racial and
communal co-operation, harmony and peaceful co-existence. Today the Sub-Division
thrives with farm & fields, flora & fauna, academies & automobiles. Obviously, it is
the outcome of action & reaction between matter & mind, soil & soul.
Michael Madhusudan Dutta College, the only institution of higher education in
the Sub-Division was established on 24th September, 1987. The location of the
College is at a beautiful place along the National Highway No. 8 with a vast plot of
50.69 acres. The land was arranged under the auspicious endeavor of the Sabroom
Nagar Panchayat. The seedbed of this institution was Sabroom Boys H.S. School.
Initially, the college was known as Sabroom Government Degree College but on
08.04.2002, the State Government named it after the Bengali legendary poet
Michael Madhusudan Dutta (25.01.1824 – 29.06.1873). Present two-storied building
of the college at Jalefa was constructed in two phases. The front phase was
inaugurated on 8th April, 2002 by the then Honourable P.W.D. Minister of Tripura,
Mr. Badal Chaudhuri and the administrative block was also inaugurated in the same
year on 14th November by the then Honourable Member of Parliament, Sri Bajuban
Reang. The College was shifted to the new building on 8th April, 2002. The building
of the College Auditorium is in the final stage of construction.
Michael Madhusudan Dutta College is at Tripura South District and 132
kilometers away from the capital of the state. Bus, jeep, etc. various types of
conveyance are available from 5.30 a.m. to 3.00 p.m. to cover this enjoyable journey
of around 3.5 hrs.
