  • Department Profile

    The Department of English in GDC ALAIR is as old as the college itself, it was

    one of the first departments to start functioning in 2008. The department has been

    handling English language classes for the various courses offered by the college

    since the days of its inception. The department has one sanctioned post of

    Lecturer. The Department of English has been friendly and striving hard to

    motivate the students in improving their language skills in English. .

    The department besides its hectic schedule is rendering its service to TSKC

    and taking classes for the students for JKC in Communication Skills in English.

  • CURRICULAR ASPECTS

    1. Department follows the syllabus designed by Mahatma Gandhi University,

    Nalgonda

    2. The Faculty member regularly attends the Departmental Conferences conducted

    in the

    University regarding changes in the syllabus and question paper pattern.

    3. University revises the syllabus every four years and incorporates the required

    elements

    as per necessity.

    4. During the year 2013-14, syllabus for I year U.G courses has been revised.

    5. New components like Personality Development and Soft Skills were introduced.

    6. The question paper pattern has also been changed and the new model question

    paper

    was obtained from the Board of Studies, Mahathma Gandhi University.

    7. The new model question paper has been thoroughly discussed in I year classes.

    Additional inputs like grammar, idioms and phrases etc., are given to the

    students

    along with the regular curriculum.

    8. Employment opportunity is now directly linked to the needs of a global world.

    Multinational companies look for young people with soft skills and

    communication

    skills in English. Therefore it has been decided to conduct a certificate course in

    “ Communication Skills and Soft Skills” during the academic year 2015-16 as

    additional input.

    TEACHING, LEARNING AND EVALUATION

    At the beginning of each academic year, departmental meeting is conducted to

    plan the curricular activities. The action plan is implemented as per the schedule.

    In order to enhance the quality of education, various student centric activities are

    conducted regularly. Prizes are also awarded to encourage and motivate them.

    Extension lectures are conducted by inviting subject experts from neighboring

    colleges to expose the students to varied knowledge levels.

    The students are encouraged to give seminars on topics of their interest to help

    improve their presentation skills as well as confidence levels.

    Apart from the conventional lecture method, the lecturers make use of the modern

    gadgets like computer, LCD projector, etc., to deliver lectures through power-point

    presentation.

    The learning experience of the students is enhanced through MANA TV lessons

    also. Students are regularly exposed to these lessons as per the schedule.

    Teaching process is designed to suit the needs of varied levels of understanding

    among the students.

    Remedial classes are conducted for the back-log students. The students who failed

    in English are identified and special classes are conducted before commencement

    of University examinations.

    Similarly, the bright students are allotted with study projects.

    Student feed-back is obtained and necessary modifications are made in the

    teaching – learning process.

    Assignments, Unit tests and Term examinations are conducted regularly to assess

    the learning levels of the students.

    Study material is prepared and given for the below average students.

    Previous question papers are made available in the department library for ready

    reference of the students.
