Minister Javis D. Mays is a man of God, a musician, singer, and preacher. He con-siders himself to be a servant of The Most

High. Javis has proven to the world that he is truly more than a conqueror. His testimony hasn't really been told. This is a man who has come through the fire and the flood. He holds to be true that, "Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but God shall deliver them out of them all." He has seen the Hand of God on his life since he was a child. From the age of 7 he took piano lessons from his grandmother, Ernestine Johnson. Then he started attending the Apostolic Church of Jesus, where he received the Born Again experience and began living for the Lord Jesus. While under this ministry, his cousin Minister Andrea Wilson taught him to play the keyboard by ear. He could always be heard singing when he was a kid, and today he is still singing.

Javis was the Minister of Music at New Harvest Christian Center COGIC, pastored by Pastor Ray C. Brown, for 4 years while he attended Florida A&M University (FAMU) before returning to Central Florida. He now attends the Apostolic Worship Cen-ter Orlando, pastored by Pastor Frank E. Thomp-son, where he has served for almost 5 years as the Worship Minister. His passion for worship has driven him to write songs, lead praise and worship

in many arenas, and teach/train worship teams and congregations how to effectively come before the Lord in worship. Minister Mays is a man of integrity who walks in power, truth, and holiness for whom worship is an authentic lifestyle.

Because the trying of his faith caused him to lose so much, Javis had to trust God for Restoration. One day, sitting at the keyboard, the Lord gave him the name "Restoration" and the rest has been his-tory. A group of young Spirit-filled singers, whom he always says sing better than him, came together to form the group Restoration. After eight (8) months of ministering together, the Lord moved upon Minister Mays to record a live CD/DVD Project, The Oil of Worship Live, on May 1, 2009, which was released in March 2010. The Lord has anointed Minister Javis Mays to minister to the nation in Praise and Worship. Minister Javis Mays leads praise and wor-ship weekly at The Worship Center.

Minister Mays is a husband, father of two, identical twin brother, and friend to many. He holds a Bachelor in History Education and a Master's Degree in Education and Public Administration.

About the ExperienceThe Holy Land Experience brings together the sights and sounds of the world of

the Bible in a unique and interactive way unlike anywhere else.It is a living, biblical museum that takes you 7000 miles away and 2000 years back

in time to the land of the Bible. Its combination of sights, sounds, and tastes will stimulate your senses and blend together to create a spectacular new experience.

But above all, beyond the fun and excitement, we hope that you will see God and His Word exalted and that you will be encouraged in your search for enduring truth and the ultimate meaning of life.

It's EducationalThere are many wonderful things to learn at The Holy Land Experience. From

the moment you pass through the gates of our walled city, you will be immersed in ancient Jerusalem. The structures and exhibits characterize the style, architecture, and settings that existed in the Holy Land 2000 Plaza, Jerusalem Model, and Wilder-ness Tabernacle are all intricately detailed, both inside and out, to provide you with a clearer understanding of their biblical significance.

It's Inspirational Imagine entering an exact replica of the Garden Tomb where the body of the

Lord Jesus Christ was buried. In reverence, you approach the tomb where He emerged victorious over death. Then at the grand entrance to the Temple Plaza, walk under a massive archway and behold the gleaming white stone plaza surrounding you with its thirty Roman columns crowned with gold capitals. All this grandeur majesti-cally frames the imposing Great Temple, the place held in highest reverence among the Jewish people. It is a truly breathtaking representation of the Temple that once stood on hallowed Mount Moriah in 1st century Jerusalem.

It's T heatricalOur musical team "Century" will recount many of the events that transpired dur-

ing this pivotal period of human history. Recreations of the ministry of Jesus, stories from the Old Testament, miracles and triumphs, and the story of musical praise through the ages will all move your spirit and emotions in praise to our Lord God.

It's HistoricalThe history of the Bible comes alive through presentations by our Biblical Archae-

ologists as they describe the significance of the Garden Tomb, the Qumran Caves, the Great Temple, the layout of the city of Jerusalem, and much more! And The Scrip-torium: Center for Biblical Antiquities will take you on an incredible journey through the pages of history to learn how we can have the Bible today in our own language.

All this and more is waiting for you at The Holy Land Experience.6 | www.GospelNow.Net

Knowledge Is The Key

To me education is knowledge, and knowl-edge is the key to developing a strong mind for having a life that is successful. I inter-

viewed an early childhood educator and she told me that she believes that a person does not have to be able to read to be successful in life. But I can’t agree with her WHY? You may ask so I will tell you. Because I was badly abused before and during my school age, I wanted to stop the pain so it would go away. I blocked it out of my memory. In doing that, I put up such a strong blockade that I was unable to retain anything in my mind. As a result it kept me from being able to learn anything.

I advanced through school and out of high school not being able to read or spell my very own name. What a shame on the school system for letting that happen to me. Thank God those things have changed for our children today. Oh yes, I tried going to college that same way, but it did not work be-cause I couldn’t keep up, so I had to drop out. I was illiterate.

I wanted to become a nurse but could not because of my lack of education. I wanted to work but because of my illiteracy, I could not fill out the job applications. Some-one had to help take care of me and my children. All those years raising my three children without being able to read, I was unable to give them medi-cation and other things that children needed at their ages. Without the ability to read, there was a chance I could kill them.

I did not learn to read until I was thirty years old. When I lived in Vero Beach, Florida, the library had a program that helped illiterate people learn to read. A wonderful older man came to the library ev-ery Wednesday night to teach me to read and learn on my own. Yes, I can read now and I am a teacher who helps others learn to read. I am currently writ-ing my first book, telling the story of how teaching

has healed me from my childhood past of being abused. That is why I say education is knowledge, and knowledge is the power to success.

Because I learned to read, I now own my own business, Cash Tutoring Center and I am back in college for an A.S. in Early Childhood Management, I have a doctorate in Theology. I am the Vice Presi-dent of an organization called “UNITY” a Childcare Professional Association of Central Florida. Their goal is to fight for our children and those who teach them.

Education is my life. I have to teach and tutor because I know the importance of learning to read

at the beginning of a child’s life and giving him or her the self confidence to be successful in life. I do not want any child to go through what I had to go through in my life. Our children need mentors and love. The children are our future. Let's teach them the way, so they will be there for us.

Remember this “THE MIND IS A TERRIBLE THING TO WASTE.” Please let’s not let our children's minds be wasted.

Dr. Geraldine L. Cash-Burnett

To Your Health!

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. declared “Of all the forms of inequality, injustice in health care is the most shocking and inhumane." It's been over 43 years

since Dr. King uttered those words and in that time we have experienced much progress in the areas of education, finance, and politics; however when we look at health care such progress has eluded us. Health security is an issue that affects us all, and every person has the fundamental human right to quality, compassionate healthcare services that are affordable, accessible, and culturally appropriate.

The Central Florida community is fortunate to have the “Orange Blossom Family Health Center," a compre-hensive health care delivery system that provides quality health care service to the uninsured and homeless people of Orange, Osceola, and Seminole Counties. The mis-sion of the Orange Blossom Family Health Center is” To provide quality health care services that improve the lives of the homeless and medically indigent people of our community."

Utilizing electronic health records, the Orange Blos-som Family Health Center takes a holistic approach to de-livering health care services to our patients which address not only the physical health of our patients but also their mental health. Our centers multi-disciplinary approach to caring for our patients include the delivery of medical and dental services, behavioral health services (which include mental health and substance abuse), as well as vision and pharmaceutical services. At the Orange Blossom Family Health Center we set out to create a medical home for our patients where they can receive the necessary routine as well as preventative health care services. All of the centers services are charged on a sliding fee scale which is based on the patient’s ability to pay. However no one is ever denied care because of their lack of financial resources. In calendar year 2009 the health center provided health care services to over 8,200 uninsured Central Florida residents. To qualify to receive services at the Orange Blossom Family Health Center you must be uninsured, have Medicaid or Medicare, and have an income that is at or below 200% of the federal poverty guidelines ($21,660 for a family of 1 and $44,100 for a family of 4). If you have any ques-tions please feel free to contact us at (407) 428-5751 or visit us on the web at www.hcch.org.

Fit To Be A TempleGetting & Keeping A Great Body

As the anticipation for warm spring weather draws near, so does the desire to build a great temple, your body. At the very top of

your check list needs to be preparing your body to be a mansion for the spirit to live, not vacation. Above all things your mind must be prepared to ex-cept health and fitness as a life style. If you begin to adopt the quick get it and go mentality so will your results. Begin to see your body as a precious jewel that is irreplaceable and not a garbage disposal for laziness and bad eating habits. Just as you create a vision for your career and status in life you must ap-ply an equal amount of balance to your health and fitness goals. Fitness on a spiritual level is to love your self. Upon entering a room the first thing that speaks before the tongue is your physique! Control and know whether your body is speaking foul lan-guage or giving a classy conversation. Presumably you have come to the realization that the quality of your life depends upon your health, your level of fitness, your nutrition, your shape or appearance. It's not enough to live long; the quality of your life mat-ters equally! Like it or not your physical presence plays a large role in all aspects of your life; what jobs you get, promotions, dates, your self-esteem, costs for many things such as clothing, and comfort. No matter what your reason is for getting fit, successful hot body management will depend on sensible goals and expectations. If you set sensible goals for your-self, chances are you'll be more likely to meet them and have a better chance of keeping them. Whether you’re rebuilding your temple or trying to keep it from crumbling it starts with your mental approach. Be Phit, Be Phine and Be Phabulous because you deserve it! Don’t forget to pick up the next issue as it will pertain to getting your gluteus, legs and abs on point. May God Bless the Temple!

Order in the House

Struggles and weaknesses of the family in large part determine strengths and weaknesses of churches and communities. Rebellious children

at home are typically the same in school and in the streets. Weak or non-existent male leadership at home is normally reflected as the same in church and society. Children in dysfunctional families are more inclined to have poor self images and weak marriages later. Moth-ers carrying baggage from previous relationships and impacted by trauma from current relationships often operate in and through anxiety and intimidation; result-ing in unhealthy behavior and ineffective communica-tion within the family. When fathers abandon families, sons adopt this behavior and daughters live in fear of it. Our community is a mirrored reflection of society’s basic unit, the family. Now more than ever, the fiber of the family unit is in need of critical care; and this is where the church should be able to help.

Considering the fact that God has provided the blueprint for “Order in the House” in the bible, the strength and structure of the family does not have to be relegated to some random, arbitrary, experimental situation where people are “trying it” to see if it works. Marriage works, when the people involved are com-mitted to making it work; and the components are in place to support and stabilize the effort. Hebrews 13:4 states, “Let marriage be held in honor (esteemed worthy, precious, of great price, and especially dear) in all things. And thus let the marriage bed be undefiled (kept un-dishonored); for God will judge and punish the unchaste [all guilty of sexual vice] and adulterous.” AMP God’s divine design for the purpose of mar-riage and the family is precious and worthy of esteem. It is clearly expressed in Genesis, chapters 1 and 2 with the creation of Adam, Eve, the first marriage, and the sovereign assignment to be fruitful, multiply, replenish the earth and subdue it. Marriage represents the foundation of the family and is most commonly defined in our society as the commitment between two people (particularly a man and a woman) who choose to remain faithful to each other.

In modern times, it is that commitment to the covenant of marriage and the faithfulness toward the structure of today’s family which is being challenged daily by a myriad of opinions, alternative perceptions, pressures and circumstances. A recent study by the Barna Research Group reports: Among adults who have been married, one-third (33%) have experienced at least one divorce. Although divorce is becoming more

“socially acceptable” with younger people embracing the fact that they may experience multiple marriages within their lifetime; there remains hope for marriage to last “until death do we part.”

Helping that hope to become a reality certainly lies within the scope of the church’s ability to equip and empower individuals and families. Though some got married looking for a deal, the harsh reality is it was discovered to be an ordeal where many now want a new deal! With the acceptance of some simple truths, and application of a few basic principles; marriage is not im-possible and divorce is not inevitable. When husbands understand and embrace their responsibility as provider, protector, and priest; and women accept their assignment as the helper and affirming partner who renders respect and honor, the family unit is then postured for prosper-ity. In the beginning, Adam and Eve were naked and not ashamed. There was no division, separation, shame, or hiding from one another. The enemy didn’t appear in the garden, though he may have already been present; for as long as Adam was single. It wasn’t until Adam and Eve were united, that Satan’s attack against humanity became apparent. There was no selfishness, self-centeredness, isolation, stonewalling, jealousy, competition, blaming, and negativity. These were all side-effects fostered by the enemy’s imposition into an institution ordained by God. Now, what God ordered looks something like this; husbands loving their wives as Christ loved the church (Ephesians 5:25), wives respecting, honoring, and rever-ing their husbands (Ephesians 5:22, I Peter 3:1-3), and children who are submitted to and being trained by the parents who love and cover them (Ephesians 6:1, Prov-erbs 22:6). When the order is right, the ordained institu-tion functions. In a favorable climate, grapevines need no coaxing to grow. A pleasant environment fosters growth, producing wine; a symbol of happiness and celebration. When the climate within the marriage is cultivated and maintained with balance and not bickering, peace and not pride, support and not strife; the family flourishes producing offspring who are productive and prosperous. The ultimate “Order in the House” should be a very close reflection of God’s relationship with His church; where families war no behalf of and not against one another and no family member is abandoned in combat.

Having had the oppor-tunity to travel extensively throughout the United States, Ms. Norvell discov-ered her love for radio in the State of Mississippi, in 1995. Later, she would accept an opportunity to broadcast on a radio station in Alabama where she became involved with activities to raise political awareness in her local community. With special emphasis placed upon the overwhelming needs within the Hispanic, Asian and the African American communities, her passion increased and expanded to design training pro-grams to bring practi-cal solutions to these communities.

Bridget moved to Florida and met Dawn Blackstock in 2004. Soon after, they started a not for profi t organization helping people to get out to vote. They called it The Movement Central Florida. With the success of this endeavor, they extended the program and added on a sister company named The National Movement Association. Under the National umbrella, Ms. Norvell was able to expand the scope of The Movement Central Florida to include education, dance and fi nancial literacy programs.

Bringing her radio experience and knowl-edge of the arts, Ms Norvell has created avenues to promote and excite a community to make positive changes. Bridget is or has been a co host on several dif-ferent radio broadcasts: 1190AM with the show Back to Reality, 1140AM guest host on The 411, Internet TV show Keep it Reel TV and The Marian Edwards show. Currently you can tune in M-F from 12-1pm to listen to Ms. Norvell on 1680 WOKB Radio on The Marian Edwards Show. You can also reg-ister to receive weekly updates such as Get

The 411 Email Blast (which provides information of upcoming events in the local area) or the monthly, Thought of the Day devotional (which provides a word of encouragement to get you through those tough times). Tirelessly, Bridget Norvell is constantly evolving and adding to the program structure of TNMA with the hope to better meet the needs of this community. She is a wife, mother, min-ister of dance, motivational speaker, and executive director of TNMA.

International Family Prayer Ministry and Foundation was the first Haitian group

from Orlando to response to the victims of the earthquake that rocked Haiti on January 12, 2010. A group composed of more than 16 Haitian men and women alone with two Haitian

doctors flew through the Dominican Republic on January 31 to Haiti where they spent two weeks pro-viding medical services to hundreds of people; hot meal to thousands every day; prayers of comfort and healing to many who are suffering in the General Hospital of Port-au-Prince, the Adventist Hospital in Diquini, and the Community Hospital of Port-au-Prince. The I.F.P.M.F. held 6 nights of prayer and worship at a church in the Capital of Haiti where

thousands attended service every night, and Pastor Ernst Thervil delivered messages and prayers of healing, hope, deliverance, and salvation. At the end of those meetings close to a hundred people, including a voodoo priest gave their lives to Christ, and 37 of them were baptized in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Members of the International Family Prayer Ministry and Foundation plan to take another trip to Haiti on April 13 to bring tents, sleeping bags, medical supplies, food, Bibles, and other necessary goods.

How long have you all been praise dancing and how did the group come into origin?

Pastor JuLius L. MiLes: For 14-15 years, we have been dancing. The way the group came about was through a lady in our starting church, Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church, where Willie C. Barnes is the Pastor. Her name is Sister Mary Neal. She saw this way of dancing on BET one morning and brought the idea back to Brian’s Mom (Charlotte Pope) who was our youth director at the time and she asked if Brian and someone else can do this act that was on TV. Mrs. Pope got with a young lady who is now our dance teacher, Mrs. Leslie Hall, and she got Brian and another young man by the name of Derex Moore, who now resides in Atlanta, Georgia, to mime to a song called Order My Steps, mimed by K&K Mime. I remember it like it was yesterday. Emery, Khayree, and I were in the choir stand and we saw these two dudes walk out with make-up. I asked myself “what in the heck is this?" Then as the music played and they mimed, the creativity hit the house with an anointing that disrupted the service. God uses this to bring a refreshing message to his people. From there, the rest is history.

What was the biggest obstacle that your group has faced thus far?

Pastor JuLius L. MiLes: WOW!!!!!!!!!!! Where do I start? You know, unfortunately, this life comes with a sign contracted of persecution and torment because we walk in the offi ce of bringing a revival to people but yet we still remain. The biggest one… the fellas might say is learning the business side of ministry along with rough decisions that had to be made. I don’t know. I feel that there are a whole lot of people doing ministry but don’t know the business. We have to remain humble and educated to allow us not to enter into a place where people will prostitute your gifts or talent. So sustaining in the profession is critical and can bring tremendous favor. By the Grace of God we have been favored with people like Mrs. Charlotte Pope, Cora Miles Jeff erson, Leslie Hall, Pastor Clint Brown, Pastor Zachary Tims, Dr. Cloretha James, and Pastor Jonathan McKnight. These are just a few. So many people have spoken in our lives and it has kept us humble. We are truly blessed by the people in Orlando and around the world.

What is the most memorable performance and why?Pastor JuLius L. MiLes: Apollo Theatre in New York!!

We were scared like a skinny man about to fi ght Kimbo Slice in a UFC fi ght! Once we got on that stage after shaking Steve Harvey’s’ Hand, it was a wrap. You

should have seen the people as they watched in awe. I believe every person was touched at some point. It was truly a move of God. We won and never lost. We got back to Orlando, Florida and so much love was shown when we arrived back by our churches, schools, and surrounding communities. I believe from there God upgraded our platform of performance.

Which award seems the most rewarding and why was it so special?

Pastor Brian PoPe: All of them were rewarding because they mean so much to us but if I had to choose one it would be when they declared Mime Boyz Day in Eatonville, Florida April 11th, 2009. It meant so much because I grew up in that town and to make it a day for us touch my heart beyond measure.

Where does the inspiration and passion come from when you are prepared to perform?

Pastor Brian PoPe : First it’s God, just to think we are ministering to His people and He has charge and trust us to work for Him in a special way that's a lot of passion and inspiration. And just to see people's lives changed or being delivered from sickness and other things that we have been going through its a blessing and lastly we like to dance and we have a passion for dancing and ministering through dancing, all of us may not be able to dance the best but its something you will find us doing while we are together....

What artist or celebrity figure embraced your cause the most?

Pastor Brian PoPe: It’s a lot of people that has helps us and supports the list goes on and on but if I had to choose a few it would be Pastor Johnathan L. McKnight, Pastor Clint Brown and also Pastor William Murphy III they all have really got behind us, prayed for us, and gave us good words of encouragement.

How did Psalms 50:23 "Whoso offered praise, glorifieth Me", become the Mime Boyz ministry scripture?

Youth Minister eMerY Minter: This scripture describes our heart and the goal of the ministry which is to give God praise through dance so that people will glorify God and not our gift.

How difficult was it to stay focus on your faith and church coming from a small town such as Eatonville, FL?

Youth Minister eMerY Minter: The Bible tells us not to despise small beginnings, and some times it’s easier said then done. In saying that coming out of a

small black township called Eatonville we didn’t have much or a big fan base all we had was faith in God. And because we kept our focus and faith on Him he allowed four young men out of Eatonville, Fl to travel the world and even to minister on the stage of the world renowned Apollo Theater.

Who inspired the group the most to be successful and continue praise dancing? Youth Minister eMerY Minter: We were inspired by a group by the name of K&K Mime; they are the Four Father’s of Gospel Mime. We just always tried to stand on their shoulders and take mime ministry to another level, thank

you K&K Mime. However, what has kept us inspired to continue to keep praise dancing I would say it would be two things the testimonies of people who have been blessed by our ministry and our loving families who has supported us all the way, especially our beautiful wives.

What does the Mime Boyz have coming up in the near future whether it being more shows or events?

Youth Pastor KhaYree Pender: We currently just fin-ished our LIVE DVD recording which is out now... truly a blessing. We are planning on doing a DVD release program soon too so look forward to that...and we also are planning for our W.I.N.D Conference “Worship Is Not Dead” later this year!!

What words of wisdom can the Mime Boyz give to more up and coming youth who would like to pursue success through their faith in God.

Youth Pastor KhaYree Pender: Just be faithful to God and your ministry!! Things may not seem to be going the way you think, but trust me, God is work-ing; just stay faithful and keep that passion, respect and love.

How can the Mime Boyz be contacted? Youth Pastor KhaYree Pender: We can be con-

tacted by web atwww.mimeboyz.com or by phone at (407)-442-2664

T he images of destruction and chaos in Haiti are probably still fresh in most of our mines. The aff ects of the January 12, 2010 earthquake

were felt not only in Haiti, but also around the world. The United States of America, a country known to be immigrant friendly, granted Haitian in the United States since January 12, 2010 an immigration status referred to as temporary protected status. Thereby, Haitians that were in the United States since January 12, 2010 will not be forced to return to Haiti, will be allowed to live in the United States (even if out of sta-tus), and will be granted employment authorization for a period of eighteen (18) months.

Temporary Protected Status (TPS) is granted by the Secretary of Homeland Security to eligible nationals of a certain country (or persons without nationality who last habitually lived in that country) who have experienced temporary negative conditions, such as armed confl ict, environmental disaster, or extraordi-nary and temporary conditions, that prevent nation-als of the country from returning safely or for the country to handle their return adequately. TPS allows

for benefi ciaries to remain in the United States and legally work for a set time period until they can safely return home.

TPS Process: Once the application is fi led, it will undergo several steps along the way. It is impor-tant to understand what these steps are so you can monitor the progress along the way and know when and how to ask for help. These steps are: Intake, ASC Appointment Scheduling and Biometrics Capture, and Adjudication.

An applicant for TPS may be eligible for a fee waiver if their income is below the federal poverty guidelines. The application fi ling fees are $470.00, which includes the TPS application, biometrics fee and employment authorization. In cases where the applicant has a past removal order, unlawful presence in the U.S., or entered without inspection, the applicant will have to fi le a waiver for inadmissibility in addition to the TPS application. Further, Haitians who have a criminal history or prior removal case should consult with an immigration attorney prior to fi ling a TPS application.

WHAT MADE YOU DECIDE TO BECOME A LAWYER, AND WHERE DID YOU ATTEND LAW SCHOOL?

CORETTA At a young age, I decided that I wanted to be a lawyer. I was always argumentative and never

took anything at face value. However, my decision

to be a lawyer was solidifi ed when I was seven years old and my mother was killed by a drunk driver. The driver didn’t serve much time due to a technicality. At the

time, I didn’t under-stand why the driver was walking around town and going about his life as though nothing had happened.

I was devastated and more com-mitted than ever to becoming an attorney so that I could understand

the legal process. After graduating from Georgetown

University, I entered the work force and was almost side-tracked from my goal of practicing law. How-ever, a few years later, I received a full scholarship to the University of Florida, Levin College of Law – where I met my current business partner and good friend, Randall Bishop. I was destined to become a lawyer and I believe that I was fated to practice law with Attorney Bishop.

RANDALL I have wanted to be an attorney since I was about fi ve years old. At fi rst I wanted to be pros-ecuting attorney, but too many of my family members were in and out of the prison system and always com-plaining about how corrupt the prosecutors and police offi cers were, which is why I changed my focus to Civil Law. My mother was a teenage mother, but she always encouraged me to be better than my situation. She was the fi rst person to give me a briefcase and tell me that I could do anything I set my mind to. My grandmother use to always say to me “boy you talk so much you should be a lawyer.” Now, here I am, living out my dream with my law school classmate. Coretta and I met at the University Of Florida Levin College Of Law and instantly became close friends. One of the most rewarding things about being a partner at Anthony-Smith Law, P.A. is having the opportunity to work with your best friend and someone whose legal expertise and opinion you truly respect and admire. Coretta is probably one of the most intelligent and hardest working lawyers I have ever met.

However, my decision to be a lawyer was

solidifi ed when I was seven years old and my mother was killed by a drunk driver. The driver didn’t serve much time due to a technicality. At the

time, I didn’t under-stand why the driver was walking around town and going about his life as though nothing had happened.

Business wise, Orlando is simply a melting pot filled with those determined to do better than our generation before. As minorities, we sometimes find ourselves having to work harder & prove more than most. This came to no surprise when Coretta Anthony-Smith decided she not only

wanted to become a lawyer, she wanted to own her own firm. Correta takes a moment to recognize how far society has come, and how she has benefited from the progress.

DETAIL THE HARDEST STRUGGLE YOU ENCOUNTERED WHEN YOU FIRST BEGAN PRACTICING LAW.

CORETTA My hardest struggle was one that I am sure many young, black attorneys encounter – hav-ing other attorneys criticize and second-guess your work product. I began my legal career at a mid-sized Florida fi rm that only had one other black attorney. I believe that our work was scrutinized more carefully than our counter-parts. However, looking back on it, I am glad that I had that experience as it helped me to become a more prudent, dedicated and aggressive lawyer.

RANDALL Honestly, as a fi rst year lawyer I was given a lot of opportunities that have helped me in my career; however, my biggest struggle as a fi rst year attorney was having someone else review and scru-tinize my work-product before it went out. I did not like being told how to write. However, being honest, that experience helped me hone my legal skills and improve my writing.

WHAT BRANCH OF LAW DO YOU PRACTICE, AND HOW DID YOU COME ABOUT YOUR OWN LAW FIRM? HOW DO YOU PARTNER UP WITH RANDALL BISHOP?

CORETTA Personal injury and insurance disputes. Actually, for several years, I worked for law fi rms that specialized in the area of insurance defense. However, I became frustrated with the way that many insur-ance companies handled minority claims; so, I started a law fi rm with a different partner in 2004 – intent upon helping people with their insurance claims. That partnership amicably dissolved and in 2007 I formed Anthony-Smith Law with the help of my cousin, Carla Anthony. Carla has an engineering background and an MBA from the University of Houston. So, she was familiar with the tools needed to run a successful business. She is the fi rm administrator and an integral part of Anthony-Smith Law. I would also be remiss if I didn’t mention the love and support provided by my husband. I would not be where I am today if it were not for him. He was supportive and understanding – especially in the early years, when I worked long hours and almost every weekend.

RANDALL Interestingly, I had the same experi-ence in dealing with insurance companies and their handling of claims. I was also disillusioned with tra-ditional law fi rm bureaucracy and decided to switch sides and fi ght for the rights of others.

WHAT IS THE MOST IMPORTANT ADVISE THAT YOU CAN GIVE TO OUR READERS?

CORETTA & RANDALL Never underestimate the importance of legal representation. Many people believe that they can handle legal disputes on their own. However, without competent counsel, you can jeopardize your case – and it is much more advanta-geous to be on the offensive rather than the defensive.

WITH THE NATION HAVING TO NOW TRULY FACE “RAC-ISM” CONSIDERING OUR PRESIDENT IS BLACK, HOW DO YOU FEEL IT WILL AFFECT THE SOCIETY?

RANDALL Bottom line is that racism will always exist and there is nothing that any of us can do about it. I remember when I was younger my grandmother told me “son you are going to always have to work harder than your white counter-part because the world we live in is truly racist.” That has always stuck with me. I don’t complain about or dwell on it. It is what it is and it motivates me to be a better lawyer and more importantly better person.

WHAT IS ONE OF YOUR IMMEDIATE GOALS?CORETTA & RANDALL To provide assistance to

any individual having a dispute with an insurance company. However, as minorities are typically under-represent-ed in the legal industry, it is our goal to provide them with a voice to make sure that their interests are being met. We have employees that speak Spanish, Creole and French to make sure that they understand their insurance claims and the legal process.

January 10,2003 I received a phone call a little after 1a.m. to let me know my grandfa-ther's house was on fi re. My heart began to beat hard. I rushed to get over to his house. Knowing they would be outside waiting on me. You see, I had let my sons go with my grandfather for the night.

When I arrived I was told all three were dead. Brandon age5, Fabian age3, and my grandfather. I began to cry and beg, "God let it not be so." As I was about to leave one of the fi re fi ghter began to stick an hole in Fabian throat. And all three where rushed to

the hospital. I drove to the hospital behind the ambulance absently, in total disbelief.

This was a bad dream and any minute I would wake and it all would be over. When I arrived at the hospital I was told they couldn't save my grandfather or Brandon. They had Fabian on life sup-port. They told me he had went without oxygen to the brain for over an hour.

He was going to be an vegetable. The Doctor told me I should pull the plug and donate his organs. That the tests they done on him showed no brain activity. I sat quietly, stunned by the words said to me. My mother argued with the doctor and nurses, telling them they were not going to pull the plug on her grandson! Only God had the last say!

They told her she didn't have a say. She wasn't his parent. My mom called our Bishop Willie Reddick of Ft. Pierece. They began to pray. Nurses again came to me for consent to pull the plug. A small voice within me said, "No. Only God has the last say," not believing the words I said. I was really questioning God in my heart asking, "Why? How could He let this happen?"

Three minutes later, my son opened his eyes and said one of the individual's name involved. Then went back into an coma. He was then taken to Palm Beach Hospital because of the serious-ness of his condition. I later found out from the police that it was a robbery that went bad. Fabian was in an coma for three weeks. The nurses and doctors told me there was no hope.

I over heard the nurses talking about how sad it was that I couldn't let go. On the 3rd week I was sitting by my son's bed at the hospital in I.C.U. I looked up crying to God and said, "Lord please bring him back to me. Don't take him from me."

As soon as I fi nished my prayer, he woke up and said, "momma, God said I'm a preacher." I hugged him and yelled to the nurse he was awake. She called the doctor. They did more tests and fi nally they said, "it's a medical mystery that he's alive and alert."

I responded NO it's a miracle from God! Later he told me that his older brother told him to go hide in the closet. Which he did, as watched his brother and grandfather being murdered. He lives now because they never saw him. God had his angels protecting him. He is now nine years old and a straight-A honor role student, who sings and peaches the gospel. He also loves to let everyone knows how good God is! I shared this to let you know that even in the midst of sorrow, God is still there and he cares for you. The devil may try to break you. However, look to God for he will keep you. Read Psalms121. God Bless you.

GET YOUR SHINE ON BARBER SHOP

40 | www.GospelNow.Net

Page 45: GospelNow 1st Edition

GET YOUR SHINE ON BARBER SHOP I was up late one night watching the Trumpet

Awards on television. As my husband and I sat and watched, many received awards that are

considered “Humanitarians”, including Pastor Paula White, Chris Tucker and others. I said to my hus-band, “God has anointed us to do something BIG for Him, and He is going to give us the resources to get it done.” He agreed and we continued watching the show. A few minutes later, a business man by the name of Michael V. Roberts, was called to receive an award. He spoke our language when he talked about us, as African-Americans, being able to show our young people that success doesn’t have to mean being a rapper or selling illegal pharmaceuticals. Then he went on to make a statement that kept me up until 1:00am the next morning, reading the bible and getting revelation from God. Mr. Roberts said, “Action has “no” season”! James and I immediate looked at each other with this blank stare, as if to say, “What in the world have we been doing”?

I meditated on this statement all throughout the night. In my sleep, this statement kept coming to my mind. It was like my spirit was stirred-up and the Holy Ghost was making sure I was uncom-fortable and couldn’t lay there and ignore Him. I remember before closing my eyes to fall asleep, the Holy Spirit spoke something so powerful, and I yelled out to my husband, who was still up watching television. The Holy Spirit said, “In order to flow at the next level, you must at least begin to walk there!” In other words, “action has no season”.

Today, I want to encourage your heart and shift your mindset, to cause you to experience a para-digm shift, in your thinking. For so long, many have sat down on their gifts, talents, and dreams, waiting on a season of manifestation, not realizing that manifestation comes only after preparation. Manifestation is simply the outward demonstra-tion of what you have been working towards and praying & standing in faith for. It is what you see after listening to the voice of God and following His instructions. Sadly, this is the place where many will never reach, because we listen to people who tell us: it’s not your season or it’s not the time for that right now. Well, I kindly ask, when will that time come? I came to announce to you, the time is always, Right Now! I believe there is a season for manifestation, but action has no season! How long will we sit and

wait on something that is already here? Whenever I read the Word of God, the word “wait” is usually followed by “on the Lord.” God will take care of the season of manifestation, but it’s your job to maxi-mize the time of preparation. When manifestation time comes, you should already be equipped and prepared to walk in it.

Let’s talk about my friend David. In the book of I Samuel, we are privy to the information that lets us know that David was not the most popular, the one out in the fore-front, nor the one regarded as “deep and spiritual”. He was a shepherd boy, someone that worked in the stinking field all day, tending to his father’s sheep. What they didn’t know about David is this, while he was doing the job that no one else wanted to do, working out in a field alone, with animals that couldn’t talk back to him, fighting off lions and bears, trying to protect his father’s sheep, God was preparing him for the day of manifestation. The Holy Spirit had David right where He wanted him. He was in a quiet place, I am sure many times felt very lonely, but he wasn’t alone. His gifts and talents were being perfected. He was mastering the skill of listening and the principle of obedience. He was in a place where those around him, close to him, and even in the same house with him, refused to see him as David; the one anointed by God, and reduced him to only a little shepherd-boy. Take a look around you. Do people really see you as God sees you? Do they really honor and respect the anointing on your life and the gifts that you possess or are you minimized to what you have or the posi-tion you hold? I have come to realize something; people will diminish your anointing, to the capacity in which they have to receive you. It’s not because you don’t have it, they have just decided to disregard it, in hopes of getting you to retreat and doubt what you know God has placed on the inside of you.

David’s day of reckoning came when Jesse sent him to take his brothers some food to the camp. Goliath, the Philistine bully, was threatening the people of Israel and was ready to take them out. The men were afraid and no one was willing to take on Goliath. When David hits the scene and hears Goliath talking trash, he says, “Who is this uncir-cumcised Philistine, that he should defy the armies of the living God?”
