North Central Area Libraries - Raheny

Our libraries offer a place of sanctuary & learning at the best of times but now

Raheny library has the added bonus of a rear garden area.

Raheny library situated almost at the heart of Raheny Village offers a light,

airy & very popular venue for browsing reading or studying. It has been a

long held aspiration to open up garden access for the public . The area is a

paved & furnished outdoor space with ample seating. The access which was

opened in September of this year was made possible by collaboration of

Libraries & the North Central Area Office with the assistance of some

discretionary funding.

There is a door & ramp with rail leading from the rear of the Library to the

fully furnished patio area to the rear. We hope that this easy access route will

enhance the experience & enjoyment of all at this important venue in Raheny

into the future. Just imagine relaxing with a book al fresco during those long

summer evenings!

This lovely event, which is organised

annually by Senior Community Officer

Madeleine Ebbs, will be attended by 170

local senior citizens . It has been a huge

success over the years with people even

trying to booking their tickets as early as

September!

M & N will provide the entertainment for

the afternoon, with exquisite arrangements

of classical songs which are great fun.

Audience participation is actively

encouraged.

The 4th Annual Christmas Dinner Dance for the North Central Area will take

place on 14th December in Parnell’s GAA Club Coolock Village.

It is also rumoured that this

year, Santa himself will be

making a whistle stop visit

too, so “you’d better watch

out”…..

Area Office Deliverables to the Community—

Hickory Dickory Dock it’s the Donnycarney Clock…!

Your Council, Your Area Office,

Congratulations to Donnycarney West Community

Association (DWCA) who celebrated their 40th

Anniversary in style with the launch of the

Commemorative Clock at the corner of Collins

Avenue & Malahide Road on Sat 19th November.

Dublin City Council & DWCA worked jointly on this project over the last ten

months in order to celebrate Michael Collins on the 100th anniversary of the

1916 rising. Dublin City Council North Central Area Office was first contacted

by DWCA in January 2016 with a view to erecting this commemorative clock

& has worked tirelessly on the project until now.

All council departments worked in tandem to ensure delivery of this project as

did the outside agencies involved i.e. ESB, Canavan Clockmakers & C&L

Maintenance (installers). Congratulations to all involved in the provision of a

new landmark timepiece to the North Central Area.

Community in focus: A new home for Glin Boxing Club

As the George Michael song goes “turn a different corner & we never would

have met”, so it was for Glin Boxing Club. A chance remark in a car park & a

brand new Boxing Club was the result!

Community in focus: Dublin Tenements

Your Council, Your Area Office,

Working with You, for You

In Partnership

Dublin City Council is developing a museum at 14 Henrietta Street, Dublin 1,

the main focus of which will reflect tenement life in Dublin’s inner city & we

want your memories & to borrow your memorabilia!

We would love to hear

stories attached to

these mementos also.

The information

people share with us

will form part of the

museum & be retained

in the National

Folklore Collection for

future generations to

reference.

The Council are now asking people who grew up in a tenement house in

Dublin to rummage through their attics to find mementos that we can record

to help tell the story of what life was like in a Dublin tenement.

To this end, we are organising a “Remembering the

Tenements Day” in the Wood Quay Venue on Saturday

10th December from 10.00 a.m. to - 3.30pm. Objects will

be photographed & recorded with the permission of the

owner. Nothing is retained by us.

This event is in collaboration with the National Folklore Foundation & the

Department of Architecture, both in UCD.

Christmas Recycling Arrangements

Your Council, Your Area Office,

Working with You, for You

You know the feeling, the big build up to Christmas & then it’s over in the

blink of an eye. Then you’re back at work trying not to think of that

mountain of Christmas wrapping building up in the corner of the kitchen not

to mention what to do with the Christmas tree that has just died in the living

room!

Worry not, for Dublin City Council recycling centres

are on hand to help, (though we would like to remind

you to make it a “Green” Christmas this year & to

“Reduce, Reuse & Recycle” where possible!)

For further information on our opening times, click

here.

To be treated with “dignity, respect & compassion” in our everyday lives is so

important but when it comes to the end of life care of someone we love, it is

simply essential…
