Welcome to Seagate Global Access

Our goal at Seagate is to give everyone the ability to access and share personal content that today is stored on their BlackArmor NAS server. For too often, we find ourselves without the content we need because we cannot access it remotely. The Seagate Global Access Android™ app allows anyone to have full time access to content that resides on a BlackArmor NAS server.

Using Seagate Global Access on Your Android Device

Now you can use your Google® Android device to have full-time access to the content that resides on your BlackArmor NAS server. You can share your latest video, play favorite songs, and share photos and documents easily with Seagate Global Access.

To get started, go to the Android Market and install the Seagate Global Access app onto your Android device.

Become a Seagate Global Access Subscriber

There are two primary ways to become a subscriber of Seagate Global Access. The first time you run the Android app, you can sign up and become a subscriber right from your device. Additionally, you can connect to the Seagate Global Access web site using any web browser and sign up via the website as well.

3. Enter your email address, create a password, and tap “Sign up” and you’re done!

TIP: This is the same email address and password that you used to enable Seagate Global Access on your BlackArmor NAS server.

You will receive a confirmation e-mail which will include a link. Simply click the link and your registration is complete!

Sign Up for Seagate Global Access from the Web

You can additionally create your Seagate Global Access account by signing up from the Seagate Global Access web site at http://seagate.tappin.com. Here is the form which needs to be filled out in order to become a Seagate Global Access user:

Type in the same email address and password that you used when you enabled Seagate Global Access on your BlackArmor NAS server.

You will receive a confirmation e-mail which will include a link. Simply click the link and your registration will be completed and you will be signed in automatically!

Sign in to Seagate Global Access

Assuming you are a Seagate Global Access subscriber, you will be required to sign in the first time.

To sign in, launch the Seagate Global Access App by tapping the Seagate Global Access Icon on the home screen

If you are running Seagate Global Access for the first time you will see the following screen.

Tap the “Sign In | Sign Up” button.

User Interface Overview

This section provides a quick overview of the various user interface elements and application pages that are part of the Seagate Global Access application.

Seagate Global Access Screens

There are 7 different primary screens used within the Seagate Global Access Android application:- Splash Screen- Home Screen- Local Content Screen- Remote Content Screen

- Settings Screen- Content Properties Screen- Viewing Screens

Enter your username (the e-mail address you provided when you created your Seagate Global Access account) and the corresponding password and tap “Login”.

Navigation, Status and Menus

As is customary on Android devices there are 4 standard buttons used to navigate and control an application. These buttons vary a bit on different hardware devices, but they are named consistently and shown here on a Nexus One device.

Popup Menus

There are three file-related popup menus shown here that are accessible from the device’s Menu button that can be used on an individual file or multiple selected files.

Press and Hold Menu

Additionally there is a Press and Hold menu that shows possible file actions when you press and hold on a single file. This menu can alternately be used for many of the buttons and commands that appear on the Popup menus that are accessed from the device’s Menu button.

Refresh View Use this popup button to refresh the current folder view.

Toggle View The Remote Files and Local Files popup buttons provide a means to toggle between viewing your files that are locally stored on the device and the files that are stored on your BlackArmor NAS server. This view can be toggled at any time to flip between your local device storage and the remote files or folders on your BlackArmor NAS server.

Download File(s) This menu button is used to copy files to or from one folder and another folder or it can be used to upload, download or copy files between local folders or between remote folders or any combination thereof.

New FolderThis menu button is used to create a new subfolder within the current folder location. This can be used to create local subfolders or remote subfolders depending on the current folder view.

Delete File(s)This menu button is used to delete the selected files.

Move File(s) This Move menu button enables you to move a file or set of files from one location to another. Select a file and tap this button and then navigate to the location where you want to move the file and tap the Paste Item button.

Camera Folder The From Camera menu button is used to upload or download files to and from the Camera’s digital camera images (DCIM) directory. It can also be selected as a destination target in a file move operation to choose the final location you want to move file(s) to.

Upload File The Upload menu button is used to upload files from the local device storage to a remote folder on your BlackArmor NAS server.

Download File The download menu button is used to download files from your BlackArmor NAS server to your local device storage.

Copy File This menu selection is used to copy a file to or from one folder and another folder, it behaves like a copy and paste operation. It can be used to upload, download or copy files between local folders or between remote folders or any combination thereof.

Move File This menu selection operates much like copy and paste and cut and paste operations to enable someone to move a file from one location to another. Select this choice and then navigate to the location where you want to move the file and tap the Paste Item button. Moving a file from your BlackArmor NAS server to your device behaves as a copy and paste operation, moving a file from a folder to another on your BlackArmor NAS server behaves as a cut and paste operation.

Delete File This selection is used to delete the file you have selected.

Rename File This selection is used to rename the file you have selected.

E-Mail File This menu selection is used to attach a file to an e-mail message and provide the ability to send a file as an e-mail attachment.

Properties This menu selection is used to view the properties of the selected file.

BlackArmor folders and files can be easily shared when you sign up for a Seagate Global Access account.

Content Operation Examples

Copying Files from a BlackArmor NAS Server to Your Mobile Device

With the Seagate Global Access app you can easily copy files from a BlackArmor NAS server to your Android device. Here is an example:


2. Tap on the shared folder and locate the file you want to copy to your Android device.

3. Tap the menu button on the device which will expose the file operations menu and tap the Local Files button.

4. Navigate into the target folder where you want this file to be placed.

5. Tap the menu button on the device again and then tap the Remote Files button.

6. Select the file you want to copy in the file list and select it and tap the menu button and then tap the Download button to begin copying the file.

7. Tap the menu button on the device again and then tap the Local Files button, the downloaded file will be available in the location you navigated to in step 4.

Moving Files from Your Local Device to a BlackArmor NAS Server

With the Seagate Global Access app you can easily move files from your Android device to remote folder on your BlackArmor NAS server. Here is an example:

3. Tap the menu button on the device which will expose the file operations menu and tap the Remote Files button.

4. Navigate into the target folder where you want this file to be placed.

5. Tap the menu button on the device again and then tap the Local Files button.

7. Tap the menu button on the device again and then tap the Move button.

8. Tap the menu button on the device again and then tap the Remote Files button .

Deleting Folders or Files on Your Local Device

1. To delete a folder or file on your local device launch the Seagate Global Access app .

2. Tap on the Hard Disk icon.

3. Select the file or folder you would like to delete.

4. Tap the menu button on the device which will expose the file operations menu.

5. Tap the Delete button.

6. Proceed with the deletion of the file when prompted.

Deleting Folders or Files on Your BlackArmor NAS Server

1. To delete a folder or file on your BlackArmor NAS server, launch the Seagate Global Access app .

2. Tap on the accessible folder and navigate to the file or folder you would like to delete.

3. Select the file or folder you would like to delete.

4. Tap the menu button which will expose the file operations menu.

5. Tap the Delete button.

6. Proceed with the deletion of the file when prompted.

NOTE: This operation requires that your folder is accessible with Read-Write privileges.

Create a New Folder on Your Local Device

1. To create a folder on your local device launch the Seagate Global Access app .

2. Tap on the Hard Disk icon.

3. Navigate to where you would like to create your new folder.


5. Tap the New Folder button.

6. Provide a name for the folder.

7. Tap “OK”.

NOTE: This operation requires that your folder is accessible with Read-Write privileges.

Create a New Folder on Your BlackArmor NAS Server

1. To create a folder on your BlackArmor NAS server, launch the Seagate Global Access app .

2. Tap on an accessible folder.

3. Navigate to where you would like to create a new folder.

4. Tap the menu button which will expose the file operations buttons in the bottom tool bar.

5. Tap the New Folder button.

6. Provide a name for the folder.

7. Tap the “OK”.

NOTE: This operation requires that your folder is shared with Read-Write privileges.

Accessing the Android Gallery

Photos taken with an Android device can be accessed and copied into your local folders of your device or even stored on your BlackArmor NAS server folders that you make accessible. Here is an example:


2. Navigate to the local folder or accessible BlackArmor NAS server folder where you would like the file to be placed.


4. Tap the From Camera button.

5. Select the application on the device that you would like to select a photo from e.g. Gallery.

6. Select the photo you wish to upload to your remote folder or copy to your device’s local storage.

7. The upload will proceed automatically.

Attaching Seagate Global Access Files to E-mail Messages

You can attach local files and files stored on your BlackArmor NAS server folders to email messages easily with the Seagate Global Access app. Here is an example:


2. Navigate to the local folder or BlackArmor NAS server folder and locate the file you would like to attach in an email.

3. Press and hold the file you would like to email.

4. When the Press and Hold menu becomes visible, tap the Email menu pick.

5. Tap and select the email program you wish to use to send you email e.g. Gmail.

6. Enter a recipient’s email address, subject line and a message and tap “Send”.

Conclusion

The Seagate Global Access app for Google Android devices works in conjunction with the Seagate Global Access and enables you to have full time access to all of your personal content on your BlackArmor NAS server.
