Google Adwords (Mac Updated)
The following is a tutorial on how to set up your Google Adwords account using the updatedlayout.
1. Go to http://www.google.com/AdWords.
2. Sign in with your (nonURI) gmail account. If you do not have a separate gmail account that is
not URIbased, you will need to create one before continuing.
Note: If you are working in your URI email’s Google Docs for this assignment, youcan open Analytics in a different browser window (e.g. URI account in Google Chromeand other Gmail account in Firefox) this way you will not have to sign in and out.
3. Click “Sign up”, and you should be brought to the page depicted below. Fill out your nonURI
email address, and use your company name under “What is your website?”.
4. Click Continue, then fill out the next form as follows (see images for details):● Set your budget to $100 per day.● Set your networks to Search Network only (disable the Display Network option).● Google will automatically screen your website and give you a list of suggested keywords
based on the web page’s contents. Make sure to ‘X’ out all keywords given to you byGoogle.
● Input 5 keywords of your own which are relevant to your company. Click “Save” afterediting each piece of information.
5. Create a text ad for your company. The Landing page (or Destination URL) should be the URLof the web page you already uploaded for a previous assignment (starting withhttp://students.cs.uri.edu/~...).
● Create a Headline (this can be your business name, e.g. Vic’s Lemonade)● Enter a display URL (this will look like a regular domain name, e.g.
www.VicsLemonade.com)● Enter two lines describing your company be creative!● An example of what your ad would really look like in a Google Search is displayed on the
right. Click Save when you are finished.
6. If you click “Save and Continue” at the bottom, you will be taken to the Billing page. Important:we do NOT require you to actually purchase this ad, so please do NOT enter any billinginformation. Click the Back arrow of your browser to go back to the “Your first campaign” tab.
7. Place a screenshot in your assignment document displaying your daily budget as well asyour keywords.
8. Place another screenshot in your assignment document displaying your text ad.
9. Place in your assignment document an answer to the following question: In relation toGoogle Adwords, what is CPC? Using your own words, explain what CPC is in a few sentences.
