CARE MANAGER REPORT A big welcome to winter Stay warm everyone and if you have not had your flu injection you best get off to the doctors to get it. A sad couple of months we have had recently with the passing away of 3 of our dear friends - Mavis Bish, Jack Burke and Joan Tonkin. Sincere sympathy goes to their very supportive families. On a happier note, we welcome Ray McRae and Rodney McRae to Goodwin Village. I am sure you will both enjoy your stay with us. We have all been enjoying happy hour (now on Thursdays) with many a funny story being told about school days, the local dances and even the tin-kettlings after the weddings. Many of our residents definitely had some fun back then. Sharing their stories has caused much laughter and reminiscing. The physiotherapist, occupational therapist, hairdresser and the masseur have all been busy keeping everyone active and pain free. The assistance of these people in the Village is greatly appreciated and also for Dr. Oleg keeping everyone healthy. Julie has been busy organising all the staff in getting ready for our next accreditation. The safety and quality aged care commission is ensuring we do not leave any rock unturned in our pursuit of quality care. Gill, Chris, Jenny, Marg and Jenelle have also been busy making sure everyone has a care plan that truly meets your care needs. Many families get a phone call from me to ensure they are up to date with what is going on with their family member. If I have been missing anyone with a phone call now and again, please let me know as I am always available to discuss any issues or just to chat about the current care being provided. “No winter lasts forever; no spring skips its turn” Lynne Walsh Families are reminded that all clothing brought into Goodwin Village at any time must be named. Please tell staff of any new items so these can also be labelled. Thank you for your assistance. CARE MANAGER REPORT

A big welcome to winter Stay warm everyone and if you have not had your flu injection you best get off to the doctors to get it. A sad couple of months we have had recently with the passing away of 3 of our dear friends - Mavis Bish, Jack Burke and Joan Tonkin. Sincere sympathy goes to their very supportive families. BOARD NEWS ADDITIONAL BEDS EXTENSION

Work has started on the design of the additional 5 bed extension. We are hoping that the design will be completed by October 2019. LEVEE BANK

Work has been done in the preparation of the demountable flood barrier on Camp Street. Randall Perry has been preparing the road so that the present gap between the two earthen levees can be closed by a purpose built temporary levee. The temporary levee will have a steel base and will have a slat material fixed to it to complete the barrier. RESIDENTIAL CARE VACANCIES

A waiting list for the residential care facility tends to build up to a considerable length when there are few changes to the residents in the facility. As we have had a period of resident changes we have accommodated our waiting list. This means that we don’t currently have a waiting list for residential care, and we have one vacancy.

UNIT 4

We welcome Pam Pendlebury to Goodwin Village as she has taken up Unit 4 around three weeks ago. MOTOR VEHICLES

Goodwin Village is looking to changeover its older motor vehicles in the next month or so. MAIN BATHROOM CHANGE OF USE

The main bathroom in the centre of the facility is not being used to its full potential. The organisation is looking to turn it into the Primary Care Room leaving the Hairdresser to be the primary function of the current Hairdresser’s Room. COLD WATER UNIT IN FOYER

We have renewed the cold water unit in the front foyer. The new unit was lower than the old one so we enlisted the help of Tony Hogan Builders to build a cupboard to sit the unit on. ENVIRONMENT REVIEW

The Organisation is contacting the services of Dementia Australia to advise on the best ways to improve the buildings appearance to help the function of all residents but especially those suffering dementia. The review is being carried out in early July. The review will look at the current building and plans for the new extension.

SECURITY CAMERAS Goodwin Village are currently considering the option of security cameras in our outdoor and public areas. This would be for the safety of our residents and staff.

ACTIVITIES What a busy couple of months we have had at Goodwin Village activities. The Easter Bunny (alias Marion Bayles) made a special visit on Easter Sunday to the delight of all residents and staff and a “hopping” good time was had by all. Chocolate rabbits were shared as well as some laughs and good humour. Thanks once again to our ever reliable Easter Bunny! We have had some really lovely musical days lately. Alan Powell from Boort entertained us with songs of yesteryear and everyone sang, hummed and tapped along. Kerry Wood and friends sang at our Resident & Families afternoon tea which was a great success. Of course Bev Gilmour and her band of community singers provide a wonderful sing-along morning once a month in which staff also participate. We have quite a few visiting dogs, and their owners of course, coming to the hostel to say “hello”. We all enjoy this “animal therapy” and we encourage them to visit more often. The touch of a wet nose and the stroking of their warm soft coat helps us all relax and smile! Bruce Hunt continues to provide a wonderful service of computer, tablet or mobile phone lessons/information to hostel and unit residents every second Tuesday in Sunset lounge. We thank him for his time and expertise. A new iniative has been our weekly morning tea catch ups between our CEO Anthony Hogan and two or three residents. This is a great opportunity for an informal discussion to share any concerns, ideas and compliments. We certainly value our residents input into residential care!
